Resolutions/Goals for the New Year?
Anybody got any? I thought this thread would be kind of fun to look back at in the future and see how things are going. I've got three "goals" for 2011:
1) Meditate/calm the hell down. At my pre-op physical, my doc said I've got borderline high blood pressure. Seeing as I exercise regularly, eat well (with little salt), and am not genetically pre-disposed, it seems that stress is the most likely cause...I'm a bit frustrated by this...and I know I'm easily excitable, so this is a big one or me this year. 2) Cook at least 1 recipe out of each cookbook I own. This sounds silly, but I've got a ton of cookbooks, some given to me, but many I've bought on my own...and I rarely use them (I tend to make messes of my own creation or inspired by other things I've eaten). I want to expand my cooking, though, so this should help push that a bit. 3) Take more photos. This one's kind of self-explanatory. Two years ago I tried to take a photo a day (and failed), and last year the only time I took photos was when I was traveling. I want to find some happy medium. /tk

1) Get out of the house more often. Perhaps start a vlog. Not the sit in front of the camera and whine about my day kind. Just take my FlipCam, go to parks, go on hikes, take "Weird NJ" road trips, etc and record them. Take pictures too.
2) Continue to work out and lose weight. 3) Stop pushing things off. I'm sure I say to myself "I'll do it/start it tomorrow" a dozen times a day. I'll start on these tomorrow. |

1. Lose 30 lbs.
2. Help my daughter learn to read. (she's 4) 3. Get my son potty trained (he's 3). 4. Pay of $10,000 in debt. 5. Have at least 60% of the AP kids I teach pass their AP exam.

I'll keep my list simple so that I can better assure success:
1. Lose 20 pounds. I plan to start the P90X workout routine. If that works, fine. Also, I just got hired by the university near my apartment and with start in March, so I'll be walking to work instead of driving. 2. Write often. It used to be a regular habit, but my current job has taken up a lot of my time (before I started driving, it was a daily round trip commute of three hours by bus). In 2011 it won't, so I want to write a lot again.

Don't do this too much. Strangely enough, when a bank checks your credit, each time it goes on your report, and it ends up costing you credit because creditors view repeated credit checks as meaning you're trying to loan money for possible financial issues.

1) Continue to get into better shape. No real goal weight, but going to just keep dropping my body fat % through diet and weight lifting. Would like to be able to turn some heads at the beach in a year.
2) Get more focused. I am just horrible at focusing and doing things in a timely manner. Constant procrastinator. I just need to fix this and get my work and life more focused and stop piling up projects that never seem to get done. |

Get in better shape. I've been on my way for over a month. Stupid football coaching always knocks me off this goal.
Read the Bible every day. I've slacked on this since 2003, when problems with my ex-wife developed. With life as good as it gets right now, I'd like to make that part of my life again. Figure out how to actually cook. Get completely debt free. Wouldn't be very hard on my side, I'm just 1500 bucks away from that goal as of today, however my fiance has about 6-8k (I forget the exact number). Getting married in May, I think we can make this goal happen. That just about does it for me as of right now. I have a few decisions to make for the coming year. Where do we live after we marry? Do I coach this year? Will I referee youth flag football this spring?

1. Continue abstaining from drinking alcohol.
2. Gain 30-40 lbs. (I'm down to 132 lbs. at 5'11") 3. Go for everything NOW, not TOMORROW. 4. Become better at communicating with friends and family via phone, letters, Facebook, etc. 5. Stay strong mentally with all of my physical ailments hitting me all at once. 6. Follow through with what I say I'm going to do!!!! That's a big one for me.

1) Continue going to the gym 3x a week and get over my fear of BodyPump and try to incorporate that into my workouts.
2) Run in a few 5Ks 3) Lose weight, but do it dammit. I wanna enjoy shopping for clothes, not dread it. 4) Learn to cook. 5) Call ppl. I text/email/Facebook too much. More human contact via letters and phonecalls. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Great topic TK! |

Heh, heh... that's better. I am actually signed up to receive a comprehensive monthly credit check through my bank, which service also provides me with ID theft protection.

bump Was thinking about my resolutions since we're at the end of April. 1) Been doing well for the past few months but have been lagging lately. Going to a BodyPump class on Wednesday. 2) Ran 1, time to add a few more before the year's up 3) Fail 4) Fail 5) Been gettin' a little better, but there's still room for improvement. Now that I lost my 90lbs...going to start incorporating weights to tone more.
And I'm going to prioritize my future financial well-being through a number of steps (retirement saving etc) in January 2012. |

I've also lost some weight, although put some of it back in the second half. Losing 90 pounds is incredible though, well done. I need to follow-through on mine this year. |

I didn't realize this was a bump originally and started reading from the start. I found myself thinking that I was pretty sure TK had the same resolutions last year and I felt kind of bad for you, Kristin lol

LOL...I dunno why I said it that way. What I meant was lifting weights to build a little muscle and tighten up the tiny bit of a tummy I have left (really...it's incredibly tiny now compared to how it was), as well as my back.

Wow, great job! Rainmaker is correct though, there is no such thing as toning. There is only building muscle and losing fat which people often label as toning |

You're going to love the results. I'd look on some sites for maybe weight lifting splits that can help you get going. I had never been into it and 7 months later I was blown away by the results. You won't notice it on a daily basis but one day you'll just feel your arm or shoulder and it'll be a rock. You'll see the groove in your tricep. It's badass.
