Action PC vs SAT

Okay i am having a blast playing Avernum 5 so far so i figured i would see which of the above games the board recommends.

I am looking more for historical replay value specifically for college football. I am wondering if either of these games has the conferences setup, real life schedules and bowl game selection. I am not so much looking to call lots of plays and choices but looking for a realistic simulation. I really liked Lance Haffner 3 in1 but that game is pretty dated.

Along these same lines i was also wondering if there is a college basketball historical replay game out there that is worth a darn. I love FBCB but would like to go back in time and use actual players.

I'm a much bigger fan of SAT than Action. Action will give you more playcall options but I'm not sure how great that is. EVERY NFL season comes with the game. College there are quite a few and you can rate your own. Conferences are setup. Actual schedules setup. You have to choose the bowl games though.

One other thing is the career statistics tracking. Is this handled within the game or do i need an add-on? For example if i am playing the college game will it keep track of career leaders in different categories, ie...rushing.

Yes. SAT keeps track of everything. You can download the demo for SAT and then the teams and play with the college teams.

The encyclopedia is to keep running seasons. For instance, if you play NFL seasons from 1990-2000, it will keep all your records, etc.

You get a discount on one if you buy both. I think you can get both games for $85 or so. It's a steep price but where else are you going to get EVERY NFL season without ever having to pay for updates?

Okay so does the Enclyclopedia work with the college game too? I would want to keep runnng statistics in the college game if it doesn't by itself.

How difficult is it to rate your own college teams?

I've never done it but as I understand it, you simply type in stats, and the program does the ratings.

I agree with Rowech that SAT is probably the way to go especially if you are looking for accuracy to the real life results but with fewer coaching options. It is a more watch and see than coaching game IMHO..........I will give a plug for Actions College basketball game. It is really great and it reminds me of a SAT for basketball. Lots of fun.

Okay Galaril on the Action College o you get actual schedules and what seasons come with the game? Does the game keep track of career stats or just each season? What about the college hoops game do you like?

Afew things yes the game has the full season for any season you buy. It has full season back to about 2000 or 1999. I believe it keeps track only of the seaosn you are playing. It is not able to do mutiple season stat tracking like in SAT's encyclopedia. What I love about it is:

1-Results are quite realistic
2-Agame is not to long about an 45-60 minutes
3-A bunch of play calling choices (offensive plays and alot of defensive plays and strategies)
4-Season are relatively cheap $29.95 and Dave has alot of specials.
In fact right now through April 7th he has adeal on conference sets 50%(I think) and for individual team downloads which are usually $1.50 , they are now only $0.50 cents each.I bought a set of 20 great teams from the 1980-1985 time frame for $10.
5-All of Dave's games have a full refund 30 days (And I have tested that once a few years ago)

How does Action do the NCAA Tournament? Does it also have conferences setup and come with the actual schedule from that year?

That is the one thing I hate about it. It does not seed the teams. You have to set up anew tournament and add the teams to the bracket then the game will set up the tournament games. Also you will have to initially write all the teams down in anotebook before you reset the game which you have to to make the tournament I believe.

Seriously if you want the ultimate coaching game ACPF is the only way to go. I've played them all and Dave's game continues it's refinement into a race that isn't close.

I am not so much concerned with the coaching, more with replaying seasons to see how things play out.

The screen shots look great though.

I am curious do the college football games setup bowl games at the end of season. And are there any kind of rankings or conference championships?

I played Action in a league for 10 years. Best fun I ever had.

Can someone who has the SAT College game comment on how the bowl games work. I bought the game over the weekend and since i have started playing realized the preset schedules have the conference championships and bowl games already setup. Do i need to go in and edit these games?

Not sure if your aware, but ActionPC offers full money back within 30 days. That means you can actually buy it and try it, and if not pleased you can get your money back. This is the best way to evaluate the game since everyone has different tastes. Absolutely no risk to you!
