College Football Champions Cup

Well since the holidays are here and I have a little free time I figured I would fire up an idea I had been playing around with. I am going to start a dynasty using Second and Ten Football to sim a World Cup style tournament.

I have decided to start in 1970 and will use a 32 team World Cup format. There will be two conferences with 4 divisions each containing 4 teams. Each team will play the other three teams in their division with the top two teams advancing to the knockout round. I am still trying to decide whether I have each team within a division play each other once or do a home and road setup. I will go with the AP final top 20 rankings for each year and the additional 12 at large bids. The at large bids will be randomly placed within a division. I have 31 of the teams from 1970 that will be used and just need one more team so place your votes over the next hour and I will decide on the final team. Here are the 31 teams.
  1. Nebraska
  2. Notre Dame
  3. Texas
  4. Tennessee
  5. Ohio State
  6. Arizona State

Miami - Ohio

Winning record every season of the 70s except 1976.

First three seasons some nice 7-3 teams but then...

1973, 1974, and 1975 have three OUTSTANDING teams with some unreal defenses. They won the then Tangerine bowl (now Capital One) against an SEC team each time. A three year record of 32-1-1.

They take a fall in 76 when everyone graduates and then another 10-1 season, 8-2-1, and a very average year in 79.

Would be a great team for a project like this.

I have to go with Boston College, 8-2 with their only losses to Air force and Penn State, who both made the field.

That's okay I will have some more open spots each year that I will need help with. How the heck was BC not ranked at the end of the year with an 8-2 record and did not get to a bowl game?
