Yay Playoffs!

So I'm watching Wayne State playing St. Cloud right now in the Division II playoffs on my television in the snow. After 6 years at Eastern Michigan University, it's so nice to be at a school that actually tries and wins.

Even a really bad team occasionally backs their way into a few more wins than normal....

Two TDs in the last few minutes and now its 21-20 with 6 left in the first half. I also like seeing one of my schools actually being competitive in the playoffs, you know?

Interstates are shutting down around the stadium, the announcers are telling locals where to go and how to get home after they leave. So much snow you can't drive, but you can play some football!

48-38, victory in our first playoff game in years and first win in longer. Against a power team, in their place, in blizzard conditions. Good job!

I have a bunch of football players in my hall, and the whole football team has their camp in my building each summer, so I know the coach and players pretty well.

In case anyone care, Wayne State beat the defending champs at their place yesterday 31-25:

Wayne State tops defending champs - NCAA.com

We won the regional finals and now are in the final four of the Division 2 playoffs. This is a miracle season for the Wayne State Warriors already. Yay!

It's WSU vs WSSU and the undefeated Rams in the semis. That'll be the toughest game yet.

The D3 playoffs will probably come down to Mt Union and UW Whitewater for the 7th year in a row.

Yup, pretty much. Mt Union gunning for their 11th title since 1993 and UW-Whitewater looking to win for the 3rd straight year. It's like a perpetual heavyweight bout between these two. Hope someone else gets inspired and pulls the upset.

After Northwest Missouri knocked off Midwestern State, you almost thought they might have another Cinderella run in them. Pittsburg State just drilled them this weekend. I like their chances ... would be cool to see another MIAA team make a championship game run.

Brother and Dad are alums of Whitewater. Crazy how those two teams meet every year.

Really enjoying the run Wayne State has been going on. I'll root for them as they're from the same region as my alma mater.

Today is the semis, and the game starts at 2. I' ma get ready to go, and then head to a campus viewing party with some of my residents and staff at the Student Center. Wish us luck!

Every time I see this thread I keep thinking that I am going to come in here and read that the BCS has been abolished.

We need to hear a "Correcting a Crappy way to Decide a National Champion Proclamation"

Oh, but I take it congrats is in order for Abe, so congrats!

Sam Houston State waxed Montana State, but one of the Montana State players made an incredible catch:

See, if NFL players would catch the ball like that, you wouldn't t have a bunch of whiny pubic hairs screeching "IF THAT'S NOT A CATCH, I GUESS I'LL NEVER KNOW WHAT A CATCH IS."

For the record, I hate everybody.

That was easily the best catch of the year on any level.

A few plays later there was a nice play by a Sam Houston receiver. I'll see if I can find a replay to post.

Stagg Bowl XXXIX will be #2 Mt. Union v. #1 UW-Whitewater for the 7th straight year, as Mt. Union beat Wesley 28-21 and UW-Whitewater beat St. Thomas 20-0.

Wayne State's run to the Championship Game has been one of my favorite sports stories ever, for a team I've been involved with. Right there with the Mountaineers and Pittsnogle, or my Diamondbacks beating the Yankees in the World Series. It's just so incredible and interesting. It's so improbable. We weren't even expected to be picked for the playoffs, and four straight gamesson the road against stiff competition has seen us defeat last year's champion, an undefeated team and all four opponent's with better records and pedigrees.

And now our little team who has not been in the playoffs before is in the championship game. It's like a sports movie unfolding before my eyes.

Let's go Warriors!!!

UW-Whitewater won their 3rd straight D3 national title over Mt. Union 13-10. It's the 7th straight time those two met in the D3 title game.

NDSU wins 35-7! We head to our first Division 1 title game, January 7 against Sam Houston St, in a battle of 1 vs. 2. Dominant second half and some very fortunate turnovers that went our way.

NDSU really took over in the 4th quarter. Goalline stand and the following TD closed the game out. Hopefully they can take it all, nice turnaround for them from 2 years ago.

OHHHHHH YEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH!

The Bison won the National Championship today with a 17-6 win over the previously undefeated, and #1 ranked Sam Houston St. WildKats.

The Bison defense shut down the #1 offense in the nation. In fact, the Bison defense allowed 13 total points in their 3 post season games. One TD, and 2 fieldgoals allowed against 3 of the best teams in the FCS.

This defense set the tone, and our well balanced and disciplined offense put the sword to the opposition and finished one of the best seasons in the history of our school. It's the first National Title in over 20 years, and the first in Division 1. We have only been a D-1 school for 8 years now.

It's so cool to see the NDSU highlights on sportscenter. Today is a great day!

That's a great win. I remember when they were in Division 2 a short while back. Crazy to see how quickly they've adapted to FCS.
