Would this tick you off (medical records)?

Ok, here's the scenario. My wife and I switched doctors for our children at the end of December for various reasons from the doctor we had went to. We weren't jerks about it, file any complaints, or anything goofy like that. We just told them to send medical records to a different doctor. Fast forward a month. We've not seen the other doctor or anything. I need a copy of my son's immunization record, so I call the office we transferred to, they said to call the office that gave him the immunizations (since they have not seen my son at all), and they should give it to us no problem. So I called that office, and they faxed me a cover letter saying "We aren't your physician anymore, so we need to contact our current physician". Now, I looked up Ky state law, and the original office is required to keep my son's records and provide me with a copy, free of charge, until he's like 28 years old. Now I have in writing, their refusal to do so. I'm not really getting their refusal to do so........I paid all my bills on time, etc., etc. It's my opinion that they are just being assholes over the whole leaving thing, and that's against the law.

No idea, but you definitely made the right decision leaving those assholes.

Edit: You should go down there and make a scene, in front of current patients, if possible.

You should just sue them. It's the American way.

No really...rake the fuckers over the coals. You don't have to sue, but I'd raise hell.

Bring in a copy of the law next time you go in and point out where they're legally obligated to do so if they still insist on not giving them to you.

And make it soon. Walk in with a copy of the law, and tell them you want it now. Or call them back, tell them about the law, and demand the records. And if they refuse, contact the state licensing bureau (not even sure who that would be, have to research) and get them on the case.

Maybe. Maybe they're not completely familiar with the law. They should be, of course, but you'd be surprised how often that's the case.

I agree that you should walk into the office and make the request again with a copy of the law in hand.

Take Pumpy with you, too. A pant-less Pumpy will get you what you want.

Frankly, I would hold off on getting ticked off. That cover letter is annoying, but it may just be a standard thing that gets issued once they transfer records. Obviously they're wrong in this case, but I woudln't assume they know that, or that they're doing this to be dicks. It may just be some office procedure for records that have been transferred. They probably move them to archives of some sort.

Yeah, this was my reaction as well. Sounds like this is being completely overblown by fofc.

If they transferred the records to your new office, why aren't you getting all mad at your current office? Your records have been transferred, why won't they give you the info?

This seems like a simple administrative quirk. No need in going nuclear based on what we know now.

Did you confirm that the records were actually transferred? I am not sure why either office would refuse to give you the records. It's just as odd to me that your new office won't give that to you, as it is that the old office sent you the cover letter.

Yes, I did. The new office has them as well. They "can't" give me one, since they have yet to see my son. The old office sent me the cover letter. My wife is stopping by the old office today, to ask if the cover letter was a "mistake", or if, they are indeed, telling us we can't have a copy. I thought that was the best way to handle it.

Edit..............and she just texted me. They gave it to her no problem.

Law in one hand, Pumpy in the other. That pretty much describes my wedding.

I heard that a topless Pumpy works equally as well.

OK, now that this dilemma is solved, let's figure out something more important to discuss in this thread:

Would you lick this off (medical records)?

Grape jelly
Pudding
Ketchup
Kathy Griffin

I would require Kathy Griffin's medical records before licking anything off her, I have to admit.

Ugly isn't a disease, but it's readily diagnosable in her case.

For the first three, is it fairly fresh, or is it dried, hard shell?

No need to answer on the fourth, she's obviously hard shell.
