Dade Takes CL's Best Bat Trophy
Sunday, May 1st, 2163: When Olímpio Dade stepped up to the plate in April, he did it with confidence and today he was honored with the Continental League Batter of the Month award.

The young Brooklyn third baseman posted a .409 batting average with 2 home runs, 9 RBIs and scored 21 runs. Dade also worked pitchers for 6 walks to post a .471 on-base percentage.


Super Month Nets Rodríguez #1 Batter Prize in RL
Sunday, May 1st, 2163: April's Batter of the Month Award has been given out by the Republic League. This month's trophy was presented to the Colorado left fielder, Tomás Rodríguez.

He starred by hitting .339 with a .367 on-base percentage, totaled 40 hits in 118 at-bats, 5 home runs, 23 RBIs and scored 18 runs.

CL Top Pitcher for April Picked
Sunday, May 1st, 2163: Jesús Morán is at the zenith of his career and today he was selected as the Continental League Pitcher of the Month for April.

He made 16 relief appearances for Apex last month, throwing 16 innings and collecting 12 saves, a 1-1 record, 10 strikeouts and a 3.38 ERA.


Marlboros Flynn Named RL's Best Pitcher
Sunday, May 1st, 2163: George Flynn's been around the league long enough to appreciate the honor he received today. After going 5-0 in April, the 30-year-old Toronto hurler has been named Republic League Pitcher of the Month.

He fanned 33 in 41 innings, logged an ERA of 1.54 and allowed opponents to hit .195 against him.

Continental League Names Rookie of Month
Sunday, May 1st, 2163: Cleveland's Juan Martínez collected 29 hits to snare the Continental League Rookie of the Month for April.

He batted .309 with 4 home runs, 11 RBIs and 13 runs scored.

The 21-year-old is barely old enough to shave, but he could definitely contend for Rookie of the Year if he keeps up this pace.


RL Selects Rookie Star of the Month
Sunday, May 1st, 2163: Bernardo Peña was toddling around on his tricycle when some of the guys he's playing against were in their prime, but the 22-year-old right fielder definitely knows how to get to first, second or beyond. Today he was chosen April's Republic League Rookie of the Month for his remarkable month of hitting.

In 27 games Peña batted .327 for Colorado, slapping 35 hits in 107 at-bats with 3 home runs, drove in 16 runs and scored 18 times.

Wednesday, June 1st, 2163: When José Ortíz stepped up to the plate in May, he did it with confidence and today he was honored with the Continental League Batter of the Month award.

The young Brooklyn first baseman posted a .400 batting average with 9 home runs, 30 RBIs and scored 22 runs. Ortíz also worked pitchers for 6 walks to post a .441 on-base percentage.

Colorado's Rodríguez Bags RL Batting Award
Wednesday, June 1st, 2163: May's Batter of the Month Award has been given out by the Republic League. This month's trophy was presented to the Colorado left fielder, Tomás Rodríguez.

He starred by hitting .430 with a .469 on-base percentage, totaled 43 hits in 100 at-bats, 6 home runs, 30 RBIs and scored 20 runs.

For the season Rodríguez has hit .381 with 11 home runs and 53 RBIs. He has played in 51 games and scored 38 times.

Magalaes Earns CL's Best Pitcher Honor
Wednesday, June 1st, 2163: "The kid had it all working last month," a veteran teammate told reporters. "He keeps up those kind of numbers, we might have to start inviting him out with us after the games."

Juan Magalaes put together a very solid month to take home the Continental League's top pitching honor in May.

The 24-year-old reliever threw like a veteran. In 11 relief appearances he raked in 1 save and 26 strikeouts in 21.2 innings as he put together his 4-0 record and 0.42 ERA.

Looking at his pitching stats so far this season, Magalaes has 21 relief appearances, pitched 34.2 innings and fashioned a 5-2 record with a 1.04 ERA. He has recorded 6 saves, struck out 40 and allowed opposing clubs to hit .220 when he is on the hill.


Rancheros Reimo Wins RL Best Hurler Honor
Wednesday, June 1st, 2163: Colorado's Luís Reimo hated to see May end. It was one of the single greatest months the reliever has posted, and the 25-year-old reliever did so well that he garnered enough votes for the Republic League Pitcher of the Month trophy.

Reimo held the opposition to a .294 batting average in 10 relief appearances. He worked 14 innings, collected 4 saves, sat down 10 on strikes and posted a 4-0 record and a 1.93 ERA.

To date Reimo has 9 saves with a 6-1 mark and 1.78 ERA. Opposing teams are hitting .229 against him.

Rookie Reels In Continental League Award
Wednesday, June 1st, 2163: José Ortíz earned May's Rookie of the Month honors in the Continental League for last month's performance. The boyish Brooklyn first baseman might be wet behind the ears, but he's proving that he has what it takes to play at this level.

Ortíz hit .400 with 9 home runs, 30 RBIs and 22 runs scored this past month on his way to winning the award.

So far this season Ortíz has hit .369 with 10 home runs, 40 RBIs and and scored 31 times.


May's Best RL Rookie Named
Wednesday, June 1st, 2163: Zhu-lan Jiang's eyes seem to light up whenever he sees the baseball. The young Los Angeles left fielder has been hitting everything in sight for the better part of a month.

In May he was voted the Rookie of the Month Award.

During the month he hit .352 with 2 doubles, 1 triple and 1 home run. Jiang also scored 19 times and drove in 13 runs.

Jiang is currently hitting at a .306 pace with 4 home runs and 22 RBIs.

Baltimore's López Chosen CL Batter of the Month
Friday, July 1st, 2163: On the heels of a very productive June, Jesús López received Continental League Batter of the Month recognition today.

The battle-tested third baseman hit .387 for the Baltimore Gothams and racked up 9 home runs, 31 RBIs and 26 runs scored.

This year López is hitting .325 with 101 hits, 16 home runs, 58 RBIs and has scored 56 runs.


Los Angeles's Sawyer Snaps up June Batting Award
Friday, July 1st, 2163: Seasoned by several years of professional experience, 30-year-old John Sawyer put together a solid offensive month for Los Angeles and was crowned June's top batter in the Republic League.

He batted .366 with 8 home runs, 25 RBIs and 31 runs scored.



This season Sawyer is swinging the bat at a .300 pace. He has hit 11 home runs and scored 55 times, while driving in 53. His on-base percentage is .414 and he has played in 78 games.

Friday, July 1st, 2163: Despite the number of years he's been in the league, Cândido Ricci still gets excited when he puts together a quality stretch like he had in June. The 34-year-old starter for Apex was named Continental League Pitcher of the Month earlier today.

He collected 5 wins and 1 loss with 27 strikeouts in his 6 starts, putting up a fine 1.31 ERA in 48 innings of work.

This year in 16 starts, Ricci has recorded 8 wins and absorbed 4 losses. He has pitched 123 innings, allowed 105 hits, struck out 78 and has a 2.71 ERA.


Oprel Gets RL #1 Pitcher Trophy
Friday, July 1st, 2163: Reginald Oprel took home the Republic League Pitcher of the Month honors in June. After all these years playing ball, the 36-year-old veteran still enjoys the game as though he'd just broken camp for the first time a month ago. He's a bit older now with a few more aches and pains, but the old man has reason to celebrate, having gone 4-1 for Colorado last month and claiming the Pitcher of the Month award.

He tacked up a 1.46 ERA in his 5 starts, tossing 37 innings and striking out 23.

In the current season in 16 starts, Reginald Oprel has a record of 8-5 with 78 strikeouts in 114 innings and a 3.16 ERA.

CL Picks Rookie of the Month
Friday, July 1st, 2163: Youngster Juan Martínez emerged as the latest Continental League Rookie of the Month today. The young man from Cleveland deserved the honor, batting .289 with 5 home runs and 13 runs batted in. Is the month of June a harbinger of things to come or just a fluke? We'll find out someday, but for now, we'll just let Martínez enjoy the limelight.

This season Martínez is hitting .331 with 93 hits, 18 home runs, 44 RBIs, scored 44 runs and played in 76 games.


Heath Voted June's #1 Newcomer
Friday, July 1st, 2163: Russ Heath is still a bit shy, but then, who could blame the newest Republic League Rookie of the Month honoree? He hasn't been around the league long enough to fully know the ropes yet, despite the fact that he's putting up veteran-like numbers.

In June the Hartford hitter tagged opposing pitching for a .348 average with 31 hits, 1 home run and 11 RBIs.

Posting a .310 batting average to date, Heath has 1 home run and 27 RBIs.

Monday, August 1st, 2163: One of the more consistent batters in July, Noblesville center fielder Miguel Abreu grabbed Continental League Batter of the Month honors by hitting .349 with 30 hits in 86 at-bats.

He racked up 10 home runs and 21 RBIs, scored 19 runs.

Currently Abreu is batting .316 with 26 home runs and 66 RBIs.


Red-Hot July Lands Moreno Batting Prize in RL
Monday, August 1st, 2163: The Republic League Batter of the Month has been chosen for July and the trophy was presented to Víctor Moreno of the Hartford Harpooners.

He stood out this month with a .333 batting average, 30 hits and 8 home runs, along with 28 RBIs and 20 runs scored.

CL Top Pitcher Award for July to Hebert
Monday, August 1st, 2163: The July Pitcher of the Month has been chosen and the Continental League award went to Halifax hurler, George Hebert.

During the month, Hebert was impressive with a 2.57 ERA and 4 wins and no losses. In 35 innings he struck out 30 and gave up 34 hits and 13 walks.

This year Hebert has a 10-4 mark in 20 starts with a 3.18 ERA. He has given up 113 hits in 127.1 innings, struck out 96 and issued 59 walks. Opposing clubs have compiled a .240 batting average against him.


Chapa Chosen July's Best RL Hurler
Monday, August 1st, 2163: As Ángel Chapa hoisted up the Republic League Pitcher of the Month trophy for July, rumors have already begun to swirl about whether he will leave Los Angeles once his contract is up at the end of the season.

Chapa put pressure on the Bruins to keep him around by posting a 4-1 record and an ERA of 3.82 over 30.2 innings last month. He also rolled up 17 strikeouts, increasing his value both to Los Angeles and to every other team in the league.

This year Chapa has posted a 8-9 mark in 20 starts and has a 4.75 ERA.

Monday, August 1st, 2163: Gustavo Gareia takes the hill with uncharacteristic poise for a man of so few years. Gareia is just a lad, but he strung together some solid starts last month to win the Continental League Rookie of the Month crown.

In July he held opponents to a .205 average as he struck out 12 in 12.2 innings. In 0 starts he nailed down 4 wins, suffered no losses and compiled a 1.42 ERA.

Continental League Picks August's Best Batter
Thursday, September 1st, 2163: August was an outstanding month for Apex center fielder Gustavo Jiménez and it was capped off today with the announcement that he was named the winner of the Continental League Batter of the Month award.

Jiménez compiled a .363 batting average and .432 on-base percentage for the month. In 29 games he piled up 41 hits, 4 home runs, 17 RBIs and 26 runs scored.

For the season Jiménez is hitting .299, batted in 73 runs with 20 home runs and 77 runs scored.


RL's Top Hitter Announced
Thursday, September 1st, 2163: Craig Ray was declared the Republic League Batter of the Month today. Hammersmith's right fielder stroked 39 hits in 112 at-bats for a .348 average in August.

He also hit 9 home runs, drove in 31 and scored 20 runs.

CL #1 Pitcher in August is Napa Valley's Gutiérrez
Thursday, September 1st, 2163: Miguel Gutiérrez is the latest Continental League Pitcher of the Month award winner. The Napa Valley starter stood out on the hill time and again last month and finished August with a sparkling 5-1 record.

In 7 starts last month, he fanned 22, walked 11 in 46.1 innings and posted a 1.94 ERA. Gutiérrez held opposing teams to a .225 batting average when he was on the mound.

So far this season Gutiérrez has 10 wins and 8 losses and a 4.86 ERA.


RL Announces Best Pitcher for August
Thursday, September 1st, 2163: Francisco Alsina nailed down August's Republic League Pitcher of the Month award today, adding pressure on Chico to get a deal done before the 34-year-old becomes a free agent.

Alsina seems unfazed by the talk. "We get a deal done or we don't," he told reporters, "I'm not worrying about next year. Worrying about next year isn't what wins awards, you know?"

He fashioned a 5-0 record, reeled off 30 strikeouts, worked 43.1 innings and held batters to a .199 average for the month as he posted a 2.28 ERA.

On his stats sheet for the year Alsina shows a 11-9 record, 26 starts, 179.1 innings, 112 strikeouts and a 3.86 ERA.

High on the Hit Parade, Catron Voted #1 Rookie
Thursday, September 1st, 2163: It was an excellent month for Ángel Catron. He really swung into action! The left fielder for the Brooklyn Brownstones was named August's best newcomer in the Continental League.

He captured the honor by hitting .376 with 32 hits, 5 home runs, 16 RBIs and 14 runs scored.

Catron is presently batting .289 with 20 home runs, 61 runs scored and 53 RBIs. His OBP is .328.


Toronto Newcomer August's Best Rookie
Thursday, September 1st, 2163: Oscar Prince put up eye-catching numbers in August to earn himself the Republic League Rookie of the Month Award.

The left fielder for the Toronto Marlboros batted .372 with no home runs, 7 RBIs and 19 runs scored as he proved he does deserve to play in the Republic League.

Napa Valley's Moreno Bags CL Top Batter for September
Saturday, October 1st, 2163: Luis Moreno of the Napa Valley Winemakers had a field day with Continental League pitchers last month and was crowned the Batter of the Month as a result.

During September he compiled a .320 batting average, drove in 28 runs and scored 21 times. He also managed to pick up 4 walks to post a .376 on-base percentage.

Currently Moreno is batting .305 with 177 hits and 39 home runs. He has knocked in 123 runs and scored 96 times.


Ramón Morín Winner in September
Saturday, October 1st, 2163: The Batter of the Month honoree for September in the Republic League is Toronto Marlboros right fielder Ramón Morín.

He showed no mercy as he finished the month with a .392 batting average, 8 home runs, 18 RBIs, and 24 runs scored.

Pitcher of the Month Named in CL
Saturday, October 1st, 2163: What Olivier Nadeau of the Napa Valley Winemakers did to Continental League hitters in September was criminal. He assaulted them, broke them and walked off leaving them lifeless and lost as he stole away with the Pitcher of the Month award for his barbaric behavior.

"Nadeau was truly dominant out there," an opposing hitter said to reporters. "He really made hitters miserable."

The 30-year-old reliever threw 13 innings in 14 relief appearances as he registered 7 saves, 13 strikeouts, and notched a 3-2 record and 2.08 ERA for the month.

His stats sheet for the year shows Nadeau has managed to hold opponents to a .216 average in 65 relief appearances, while putting up 6-5 record with 67 strikeouts and 10 walks in 66.2 innings. He has a 2.30 ERA with 42 saves.


Los Angeles Starter Wins September's Pitcher Award
Saturday, October 1st, 2163: This month when the Los Angeles manager wrote the name "Gingras" on the lineup card, he was pretty confident that he would get a good start out of him. Outing after outing in September Gilbert Gingras took command and usually got the win.

He dominated with a 5-0 mark and 2.81 ERA in 5 starts, piling up 32 innings and 22 strikeouts and holding opposing teams to a .252 average.

For his superb performance Gingras was named the Republic League Pitcher of the Month by the baseball writers.

This year Gingras has posted a record of 16 wins and 6 losses with a 3.61 ERA. He has appeared in 30 games and struck out 137 in 189.2 innings.

Saturday, October 1st, 2163: The Continental League has made it official -- Jorge González is the winner of the Rookie of the Month award.

During September the Apex left fielder was outstanding with a .322 batting average, 2 home runs and 15 RBIs. González also had 14 walks and posted a .417 on-base percentage.

González on the season is batting .264 with 14 home runs. His totals include 72 RBIs and 65 runs scored. He has played in 150 games.


September's Outstanding RL Rookie Announced
Saturday, October 1st, 2163: Neil Murray is a latecomer to this league. The 34-year-old Los Angeles shortstop is putting up quality numbers, even though he's not your traditional rookie. On the heels of posting a .330 average, the Republic League named him September's Rookie of the Month.

He hit 2 home runs last month, knocking in 13 runs and scoring 14 runs. He banged out 29 hits and drew 4 walks to post a .366 OBP.
