Good speed and a good arm never hurt, either, but not always required. This year's all-defense team in the Republic League consists of:

Rouillard Sweeps Up Kien-lung Teng Award

All the votes are in for the Continental League Kien-lung Teng Award. The honor for 2100 has been presented to John Rouillard, left fielder for the Pirates.

He fashioned a .301 batting average, piling up 171 hits in 569 at-bats, 21 home runs, 70 walks, 53 RBIs and a .376 OBP.


Best Rookie Trophy Presented to Grafals

2100 was a pretty good year for José Grafals. In his debut season the Spring rookie rapped out a .258 batting average with 126 hits in 489 at-bats, 21 home runs and 82 RBIs. He walked 42 times and had a .316 OBP. Those numbers got him the Republic League Kien-lung Teng Award.

Conboy of Oshawa Named Best Pitcher

This past season was outstanding for Phil Conboy. The Oshawa mound star sizzled with a 20-6 record and captured the prestigious 2100 CL Mauro Morales Award.

The Mullets hurler posted a 2.02 ERA in 33 starts with 240 strikeouts and 49 walks in 222.2 innings. Conboy limited opposing teams to a .227 batting average.


Santos Takes Home RL Mauro Morales Award

The Mauro Morales Award for 2100 has been presented and the Republic League winner is Andrés Santos of Ann Arbor.

"It's always nice to receive an award like this," said Santos. "I just hope I can improve on my performance next year and be in the running again," the Wolverines star told reporters.

Santos excelled with an impressive 19-10 record in 39 starts. In 216.1 innings he yielded 153 hits and 93 walks, while striking out 226 and compiling a fine 2.75 ERA.

Best Bat In CL Belongs To Nishiyama

Plantana's Tadataka Nishiyama put the wraps on a fine campaign today by winning the 2100 Continental League Bartolo Liriano Award.

The 27-year-old veteran scorched the opposition with a .304 average, picking up 203 hits, 50 doubles, 4 triples, 23 home runs and 93 RBIs, while scoring 106 runs.

Palmer Walters of the New York Legends proved that you can step out of the shadows and onto the stage if you've got the talent and the drive to hone your skills. Hard work, long hours and a tireless resolve paid off for him today in the form of the Republic League Bartolo Liriano Award.

Walters hit for a .286 average while collecting 173 hits, 26 doubles, 2 triples, 58 home runs, 151 RBIs and scoring 106 times.
