Norman Takes CL's Best Bat Trophy

Seasoned by several years of professional experience, 28-year-old Jaye Norman put together a solid offensive month for Omaha and was crowned April's top batter in the Continental League.

He batted .364 with 6 home runs, 17 RBIs and 19 runs scored.


RL Batter of the Month Honors to Guevara
Sunday, May 1st, 2101
Bartolo Guevara battered Republic League pitchers all April and wound up taking home the Batter of the Month Award.

"I've been around FOOL-X long enough to know you really have to work hard day in and day out to be able to put up this kind of consistency," the 30-year-old Guevara told reporters. "I put in a lot of work, even on the days I might not take the field, and it's always nice when everything comes together for me like it did this last month."

In 24 games, Guevara hit .392 with 9 home runs, 28 RBIs and scored 23 runs.

CL Pitcher of the Month Goes to Guicciardini

Manlio Guicciardini hasn't been around the big leagues long enough to know that youngsters shouldn't be winning Continental League Pitcher of the Month. But when you put up numbers like his, you're going to get some notice.

In April the London starter earned a 4-1 mark in 6 starts. He threw 38.2 innings, struck out 27 and compiled a solid 2.56 ERA.


Republic League #1 Hurler is Rentería

Whether Marcos Rentería stays in Spring beyond this season remains to be seen, but while he's here he's making the most of it. In April the 33-year-old certainly pulled out all the stops by winning the Republic League Pitcher of the Month award.

He put up some fancy numbers with a 4-1 record and and an ERA of 2.25. In 32 innings he struck out 38, surrendered 20 hits, 7 walks and proved to be a solid performer in 5 starts last month.

CL Selects Rookie Star of the Month

Ángelo Reyes is still a bit shy, but then, who could blame the newest Continental League Rookie of the Month honoree? He hasn't been around the league long enough to fully know the ropes yet, despite the fact that he's putting up veteran-like numbers.

In April the St Louis hitter tagged opposing pitching for a .327 average with 33 hits, 2 home runs and 15 RBIs.


Republic League Names Rookie of Month

Youngster Emílio Marroquín emerged as the latest Republic League Rookie of the Month today. The young man from Waikiki deserved the honor, batting .311 with no home runs and 6 runs batted in. Is the month of April a harbinger of things to come or just a fluke? We'll find out someday, but for now, we'll just let Marroquín enjoy the limelight.

Major May's Best Bat Choice

In May, George Major was the toughest out in the Continental League and that is the prime reason he was voted the Batter of the Month.

The Manchester left fielder rapped out 37 hits in 107 at-bats for a .346 batting average, hit 8 home runs, drove in 23 runs and scored 18 times.

Thus far in 2101 Major is hitting .325 with 13 home runs, 33 RBIs, 34 runs scored and has compiled a .420 OBP.


RL's #1 Batter Announced

Prospective free agents love to have hot streaks and Tokaji Sekine is no exception. The Portland right fielder capped off a fine month by hauling in Batter of the Month honors in the Republic League.

In May Sekine hit .336 with 8 home runs, 24 RBIs and 22 runs scored.

This year Sekine has 11 home runs and a .304 batting average.

Conboy Earns CL's Best Pitcher Honor
Wednesday, June 1st, 2101
Phil Conboy's been around the league long enough to appreciate the honor he received today. After going 4-1 in May, the 33-year-old Oshawa hurler has been named Continental League Pitcher of the Month.

He fanned 49 in 38 innings, logged an ERA of 0.95 and allowed opponents to hit .153 against him.

This season Conboy has compiled a 5-3 record with a 2.18 ERA.


Republic League Names #1 Pitcher in May

It's official!
Carlos Morales of the Portland Axemen is the Republic League Pitcher of the Month. In May he dominated the league with 5 wins and no losses in 6 starts. In 42 innings of work Morales chalked up 46 strikeouts, 4 walks, a 1.50 ERA and held opposing hitters to a .180 batting average.

Checking out his stats for the season, Morales has registered 5 wins and 2 losses in 11 starts, 2.11 ERA and struck out 80 batters in 68.1 innings.

Reyes Gets CL Rookie of Month Honors

A veritable toddler to the Continental League, Ángelo Reyes just sewed up the Rookie of the Month trophy for May.

Over the past month the 21-year-old second baseman for St Louis hit .266 with 29 hits, 2 home runs and 13 RBI. He also logged 5 walks and compiled a .305 on-base percentage.

Reyes is presently hitting at a .295 pace with 4 home runs and 28 RBIs. He has played in 52 games and scored 30 times.


RL Best Rookie Award Announced

Francisco Hernández earned May's Rookie of the Month honors in the Republic League for last month's performance. The boyish Las Vegas right fielder might be wet behind the ears, but he's proving that he has what it takes to play at this level.

Hernández hit .284 with no home runs, 13 RBIs and 18 runs scored this past month on his way to winning the award.

This year Hernández is hitting .286 with 1 home run and 24 RBIs to his credit. He has gotten on base at a .329 clip and scored 26 runs.

Fernando Jofre is June's #1 Hitter in CL

It's official. BNN writers have voted Fernando Jofre of the Plantana Pirates the Continental League Batter of the Month award for June.

During the month he recorded a .389 average with 7 home runs, 24 RBIs and 22 runs scored.

For the year Jofre is batting .323 with 100 hits and 17 home runs. He has scored 49 times and driven in 58.


RL Presents Batter of Month Trophy to Duquette

Guy Duquette walked away with the Republic League Batter of the Month award for his solid work with the stick in June.

The Spring first baseman hit .368 with 8 home runs, 20 RBIs and 17 runs scored.

So far this season Duquette is hitting .311 with 15 home runs.

CL Selects Conboy June's #1 Pitcher

Veteran Phil Conboy put together quite a successful stretch in June for the Oshawa Mullets, earning himself the Continental League Pitcher of the Month award.

Conboy racked up a 4-0 record in 5 starts, posting a 2.36 ERA over 42 innings and striking out 46.

So far this year Conboy has a 9-3 record with a 2.25 ERA.


Luna Gets RL #1 Pitcher Trophy

Juan Luna of Ann Arbor had an award-winning June as he took home the Republic League Pitcher of the Month award.

"He told me once people used to make fun of the way he pitches," Luna's pitching coach told reporters. "There wasn't anybody laughing in June except for Juan."

Luna was all business when he took the mound though, collecting a 5-1 record in 7 starts. He struck out 45 batters in 45.1 innings and kept opponents to a .190 batting average.

This year Luna has a 10-4 mark in 20 starts with a 3.23 ERA. He has given up 100 hits in 117 innings, struck out 120 and issued 23 walks. Opposing clubs have compiled a .223 batting average against him.

Max Weston Captures Rookie of Month

Max Weston's eyes seem to light up whenever he sees the baseball. The young Washington left fielder has been hitting everything in sight for the better part of a month.

In June he was voted the Rookie of the Month Award.

During the month he hit .255 with 5 doubles, 3 triples and 7 home runs. Weston also scored 18 times and drove in 24 runs.

This year Weston is batting .234 with 19 home runs.


June's #1 Newcomer Named by RL

The Republic League made the official announcement today. The Rookie of the Month award went to Lúcio Hernández of New York. He was named the best rookie in June.

Last month the 24-year-old Legends center fielder played in 27 games and hit .318 with 8 doubles, 3 triples and 2 home runs. Hernández also scored 14 times and drove in 7 runs.

So far this year Hernández has 3 home runs and a .236 batting average.

Edwards Brings Home CL Batter of Month Honor

Otis Edwards battered Continental League pitchers all July and wound up taking home the Batter of the Month Award.

"I've been around FOOL-X long enough to know you really have to work hard day in and day out to be able to put up this kind of consistency," the 30-year-old Edwards told reporters. "I put in a lot of work, even on the days I might not take the field, and it's always nice when everything comes together for me like it did this last month."

In 25 games, Edwards hit .364 with 8 home runs, 19 RBIs and scored 16 runs.

Edwards is swinging at a .326 pace on the year with 21 home runs, 73 RBIs and 65 runs scored. He has played in 104 games.


Miguel Valenzuela Selected July's Best Batter

Miguel Valenzuela of the Rattlers hit .369 in July with 8 home runs, 32 RBIs and 19 runs scored to capture a majority of votes for the Republic League Batter of the Month trophy.

The 28-year-old is in the last year of his contract and will undoubtedly use these numbers to try and bring in a huge pay raise.

Freedom Starter Named July's Premier Pitcher

Narihira Oshima of the Washington Freedom outdistanced his peers on the mound this month. He fashioned a fine 4-0 won-lost mark and 0.79 ERA in 5 starts to get the Continental League Pitcher of the Month honors.

Oshima had a very impressive July, finishing with 39 strikeouts in 34.1 innings and holding opposing hitters to a .198 average.

In 21 starts this year Oshima has fashioned a 10-4 record and a 2.47 ERA.


RL Announces July's Best Starter

The best pitcher this past month in the Republic League was Joe Roberson of the Maricopa Rattlers. He really razzle-dazzled league hitters, finishing July with a standout 4-0 record and 0.87 ERA.

The Rattlers hurler made 5 starts and surrendered 28 hits in 41.1 innings. He struck out 24 and walked 19.

Roberson has made 21 starts so far this year and put up a 6-7 won-lost record with a 4.20 ERA. In 139.1 innings he has allowed 148 hits, walked 76 and struck out 84.

Ángelo Reyes put up some real solid numbers to sew up the Continental League Rookie of the Month honors this month.

In July he chalked up 26 hits, no home runs and drove in 12 runs. The St Louis second baseman compiled a .263 average and a .276 OBP as he worked opposing pitchers for 3 walks.

This year Reyes is hitting .272 with 7 home runs and 58 RBIs to his credit. He has gotten on base at a .299 clip and scored 60 runs.

Lyons Crowned Top CL Hitter in August

The #1 hitter in the Continental League in August was St Louis right fielder George Lyons. He was selected the Batter of the Month.

If Guevara keeps up this pace, he'll cost someone a lot of money.

This season Guevara has banged out 169 hits in 547 at-bats for a .309 average with 31 home runs. He is getting on base at a .351 pace and his totals also include 109 RBIs and 79 runs scored.

Freedom Hurler Named August's #1 Starter

As Jorge Morales hoisted up the Continental League Pitcher of the Month trophy for August, rumors have already begun to swirl about whether he will leave Washington once his contract is up at the end of the season.

Morales put pressure on the Freedom to keep him around by posting a 4-0 record and an ERA of 1.30 over 41.2 innings last month. He also rolled up 34 strikeouts, increasing his value both to Washington and to every other team in the league.

This year Morales has a 10-7 record with a 3.21 ERA.


Relief Ace Cops #1 Pitcher Award in August

The Republic League announced the winner of the Pitcher of the Month Award. It went to bullpen specialist Etienne Pistone of Portland for his outstanding work on the mound.

He chalked up a 3-0 record, 12 relief appearances and 9 saves with a 1.42 ERA. Pistone pitched 12.2 innings and rang up 19 strikeouts.

I signed in as you Tell and you're correct. I may have cleared mine already after thinking about it.
