I'll probably DVR and watch it. Just got so tired of THC's plugging of it and cross plugging of it: suddenly American Pickers have an appointment with a Hatfield, then Pawn Stars randomly has someone out of the blue show up with a rifle from Cap the week before the mini-series starts?

I can accept it a little more with American Pickers where they at least have to "make an appointment" for some of these picks. With Pawn Stars the whole idea is random people showing up over the course of their business so it just bugged me a little more over the shill showing up with that rifle.

Pawn Stars is all completely set up. You can tell some of the "deals" are items that aren't really for sale. They just pretend to make offers so they can show off neat stuff. It becomes very apparent when you watch "Cajun Pawn Stars." The guys on there can't even act as well as the guys on the original. I watch the original to see the neat stuff, but it isn't even close to a true representation of an actual pawn shop. I can't even watch the cajun one, though. I want to slap everyone on the show in the face.

I had pretty much assumed but it's still one of those things that I would rather it not be shoved in my face. At least let me believe that some of these things could be randomly brought in. Haven't seen the Cajun one but probably wouldn't like it based on your description of it.

Watched Part 2 last night and enjoyed it. Just having a gander over at the wiki about the feud it looks like the series is following the "facts" pretty well.

Definitely looking forward to Part 3 next week.

Aren't most of the reality shows staged nowadays? I like the concept of them but the fake aspect just bugs me to no end.

I wouldn't be surprised if people did have to make an appointment for selling something to the guys on Pawn Stars now (at least something that they think might be worth a good deal of money). It became such a hit that their store has become a tourist attraction. You can google images of the store, and you'll find pics of people lined up around the block to get in and images from inside and the store is completely packed with people.

I'd be shocked if the deals (if they are real) aren't done when the store is actually closed and that people would have to make an appointment.

Edit: Looked at their website. Open from 9am to 9pm, makes no mention of having to make an appointment, so *shrug*

On November 3rd, 2010, I visited the famous "Pawn Stars" pawn shop in Las Vegas. The outside of the store is very unimpressive and downright delapidated, but the inside of the store is a nicely arranged retail store. I recognized some of the items on the TV show such as one of the nickel-plated parade saddles purchased on a recently aired show. As expected, it was priced at $9800. which was quite a bit more than the seller was paid for BOTH of the saddles that he sold. Business is business and a profit is understandable. There was also a Beatles "Yesterday And Today" album in a showcase with a $2500. price tag on it. It may have been an unpeeled "Butcher" cover, but I couldn't tell without handling it. It was priced at more than twice collector's book value and many times more than what one can be purchased for at a record show or online auction site. There were also a few reasonably priced used items available and restored soft drink machines at usual retail prices. It is evident that most everything was priced for the tourist market or like the fancy gift shops in the casinos, for someone who hit it big at gambling.

The center part of the store was devoted to souvenir items like T-shirts, cups, postcards, bobblehead dolls, etc. Most od the customers there were looking at everything but only buying the souvenir items. Many items were labeled "not for sale" or not to be sold until a particular episode aired.

As for the main characters in the pawn shop, Old Man, Rick, Big Hoss and Chumlee, none were to be found in sight. It was obvious that they were there, but they were hiding in the back. A sequence of the show was going to be filmed there in a few minutes and the guest seller was wandering around the store bewildered with a book and an old military hat that he was planning to sell. It was probably a real situation, but it was obvious that everything was previously arranged, as is in most TV shows. Just before they were ready to shoot, ALL the customers were run out of the store and there was no "live" audience. They told everyone that it would take maybe 45 minutes to shoot the less than 5 minute sequence, but after 15-30 minutes in the direct sunlight, many people had left. After an hour, there were still a few people waiting outside.

What you see on TV doesn't happen there everyday and is not a typical day at a pawn shop. It makes me wonder just when do they film the outside sequences. When is there never any traffic on Las Vegas Blvd.? When are there no cars in their parking lot when they do a narration or inspect something that has been driven or towed in? Maybe they make everyone move their cars out of the parking lot or they have them towed away. I was disappointed at not being able to meet any of the "Pawn Stars", but I understand. I was mentioned to my wife the other day while watching an episode that I think some of the descriptions/info of events surrounding the items are dubbed/edited in because you never see Rick explaining it in the same screenshot as the seller. It's just weird when, say, a person brings in an item for which they have a direct connection to the events and he describes the events to them.

Anyways, I find the show interesting and still watch it, even though some of it is obviously faked.

Rick details the process pretty well in his book. It's a good read if you haven't read it yet. Some deals are call-ins, but most of them are people showing up. He says once a deal comes in, they clear the store and then allow a smaller group back into the store to roam around during the deal. They control the environment a bit to avoid chaos during the filming of the deal.

Watched the final part of this tonight and was a little disappointed that they pretty much sped through the remaining years at a whirlwind pace while they took their sweet time during the first two parts.

Overall, I did enjoy the entire series, though.
