Friday, November 13th, 2167: What does it take to win a Best Fielder Awards? It's a combination of good hands, knowing how to play the hitters, all-out hustle and a willingness to sacrifice your body to make a play. Good speed and a good arm never hurt, either, but not always required. This year's all-defense team in the Continental League consists of:

Even on days when they don't get a hit, they feel they can make a difference in the field -- and they do. The Republic League announced its Best Fielder Awards honorees for 2167. This year's recipients are:

Continental League Picks #1 Rookie
Saturday, November 14th, 2167: The top rookie in the Continental League was Halifax left fielder Mike Anderson. He impressed voters so much that they named him the 2167 Benny Myers Rookie of the Year Award recipient.

Anderson put up some pretty fair numbers, including a .283 batting average and .361 on-base percentage, while racking up 32 home runs, 85 RBIs and 113 runs scored.


Gómez Is RL's #1 Rookie
Saturday, November 14th, 2167: The Republic League's Benny Myers Rookie of the Year Award winner for 2167 is José Gómez, the 26-year-old first baseman for the Hartford Riverhawks.

He won the award by hitting .298 and collecting 125 hits, 14 home runs, 89 RBIs and 21 walks with 54 runs scored and a .340 on-base percentage.

Continental League Best Pitcher Chosen
Monday, November 16th, 2167: This year there was no one better on the mound than Javier Espinosa. Posting 17 wins and a 2.95 ERA was only part of the story for the Apex superstar. For his outstanding performance in 2167 he was chosen as the Continental League Gabriel Prado Award winner.

From start to finish Espinosa never let up. In 32 starts he recorded 17 wins and 6 losses, 207.2 innings, 176 strikeouts, 57 walks, yielded 175 hits, and permitted opposing batters to hit .226 against him.


Gabriel Prado Award Goes to Colorado Hurler
Monday, November 16th, 2167: The 2167 Republic League Gabriel Prado Award winner is Lucien Martel of the Colorado Rancheros.

He started 33 games and compiled a 22-11 record with an ERA of 2.80 in 250.2 innings with 152 strikeouts.

Best Bat In CL Belongs To Carasquillo
Tuesday, November 17th, 2167: Today Napa Valley's Pedro Carasquillo was named the Continental League Hideaki Tanaka Award winner for 2167. He pounded CL hurlers hard all season long, collecting 215 hits in 640 at-bats.

With a .336 batting average, 39 doubles, 5 triples, 23 home runs, 74 RBIs and 116 runs scored, he was the top votegetter.


Premier Batter Named by Republic League
Tuesday, November 17th, 2167: Harvey Homer has been around Front Office Offseason League enough to know a good hot streak when he sees one -- and he got to see one firsthand all year. For his standout run through the 2167 season, he's taking home the Hideaki Tanaka Award in the Republic League.

The Ann Arbor center fielder put up a batting average of .331 with 46 doubles, 4 triples, 29 home runs and 89 RBIs.
