CL Presents Batter of Month Trophy to Weston

Max Weston battered Continental League pitchers all April and wound up taking home the Batter of the Month Award.

"I've been around FOOL-X long enough to know you really have to work hard day in and day out to be able to put up this kind of consistency," the 28-year-old Weston told reporters. "I put in a lot of work, even on the days I might not take the field, and it's always nice when everything comes together for me like it did this last month."

In 23 games, Weston hit .365 with 9 home runs, 21 RBIs and scored 17 runs.


Marroquín Takes Best Bat Award in April

The Republic League Batter of the Month has been picked for April and the honor goes to the Waikiki Beach Boys Emílio Marroquín.

He compiled a .374 batting average with 37 hits and 3 home runs, along with 17 RBIs and 17 runs scored.

Mullets Hurler Named CL's #1 Starter

Despite the number of years he's been in the league, Pedro Rodríguez still gets excited when he puts together a quality stretch like he had in April. The 32-year-old starter for Oshawa was named Continental League Pitcher of the Month earlier today.

He collected 4 wins and no losses with 24 strikeouts in his 5 starts, putting up a fine 1.91 ERA in 33 innings of work.

Ronald Harris's been around the league long enough to appreciate the honor he received today. After going 4-0 in April, the 28-year-old Las Vegas hurler has been named Republic League Pitcher of the Month.

He fanned 28 in 36 innings, logged an ERA of 1.50 and allowed opponents to hit .202 against him.

CL Selects Rookie Star of the Month

Youngster Cris Arévalo emerged as the latest Continental League Rookie of the Month today. The young man from Omaha deserved the honor, batting .256 with 4 home runs and 9 runs batted in. Is the month of April a harbinger of things to come or just a fluke? We'll find out someday, but for now, we'll just let Arévalo enjoy the limelight.


Republic League Names Rookie of Month

Marius Pertile earned April's Rookie of the Month honors in the Republic League for last month's performance. The boyish Spring catcher might be wet behind the ears, but he's proving that he has what it takes to play at this level.

Pertile hit .289 with 1 home run, 11 RBIs and 14 runs scored this past month on his way to winning the award.

Norman Claims CL Batter of the Month Award

Prospective free agents love to have hot streaks and Jaye Norman is no exception. The Omaha first baseman capped off a fine month by hauling in Batter of the Month honors in the Continental League.

In May Norman hit .404 with 5 home runs, 23 RBIs and 24 runs scored.

This year Norman is hitting .363 with 10 home runs and 37 RBIs to his credit. He has gotten on base at a .399 clip and scored 37 runs.


Hernández Takes Best Bat Trophy in May

Seasoned by several years of professional experience, 27-year-old Francisco Hernández put together a solid offensive month for Las Vegas and was crowned May's top batter in the Republic League.

He batted .402 with 1 home run, 27 RBIs and 24 runs scored.



So far in 2106 Hernández is batting .344 with 2 home runs, 33 RBIs and 38 runs scored. He has 73 hits in 212 at-bats and a .429 OBP.

Washington's Starter Receives CL Pitching Award

Veteran Narihira Oshima put together quite a successful stretch in May for the Washington Freedom, earning himself the Continental League Pitcher of the Month award.

Oshima racked up a 5-1 record in 6 starts, posting a 1.80 ERA over 40 innings and striking out 50.

In 11 starts this season Oshima has chalked up a 9-2 record and a 1.84 ERA.


May's Best Starter Named in RL

Las Vegas Wildcats starter Ronald Harris has collected the Republic League Pitcher of the Month award for a run of lights-out performances.

"This town really appreciates it when you're going well," said Harris. "They might boo you when you're getting knocked around, but they love you when you're mowin' them down."

In May the 28-year-old compiled a 4-1 record in 6 starts with a 2.76 ERA. He threw 42.1 innings, fanning 46 while walking 4.

His record for the year is 8-1 in 11 starts and Harris has a 2.18 ERA.

CL Announces Rookie of the Month

Cris Arévalo is still a bit shy, but then, who could blame the newest Continental League Rookie of the Month honoree? He hasn't been around the league long enough to fully know the ropes yet, despite the fact that he's putting up veteran-like numbers.

In May the Omaha hitter tagged opposing pitching for a .286 average with 32 hits, 2 home runs and 12 RBIs.

Arévalo is currently batting .272 with 6 home runs, 21 RBIs and 39 runs scored. He has 55 hits in 202 at-bats.


Fernández Nabs RL Monthly Rookie Award

Alberto Fernández's eyes seem to light up whenever he sees the baseball. The young Ann Arbor right fielder has been hitting everything in sight for the better part of a month.

In May he was voted the Rookie of the Month Award.

During the month he hit .277 with 9 doubles, 1 triple and 4 home runs. Fernández also scored 19 times and drove in 12 runs.

This season Fernández has banged out 46 hits in 179 at-bats for a .257 average with 4 home runs. He is getting on base at a .301 pace and his totals also include 14 RBIs and 24 runs scored.

Bafana of Oshawa CL Batter of the Month

His solid numbers speak for themselves. That's why Enrique Bafana of the Oshawa Mullets was named the Continental League's best batter in June.

The Oshawa right fielder starred with a .343 batting average, 7 home runs and 21 RBIs.

Bafana is batting at a .316 pace this season, picking up 96 hits in 304 at-bats with 12 home runs, 51 RBIs and 50 runs scored.


Grafals June's Best Bat Choice

Fans, friends and family were cheering today when José Grafals received June's Republic League Batter of the Month Award.

Grafals stung the ball all month, posting a .363 batting average with 13 home runs, 36 RBIs and 24 runs scored.

Looking at his season stats, Grafals has compiled a .304 batting average and a .384 on-base percentage, while hitting 30 home runs and driving in 76 runs.

Washington Starter Selected Best Pitcher

When Narihira Oshima takes the hill, chances are good for a Washington victory. At least that's the way it was in May.

He excelled with a 5-0 mark and 0.76 ERA in 5 starts, tossed 35.1 innings, fanned 41 and held others clubs to a .149 average.

That's why the Freedom star was honored today as the Pitcher of the Month by the Continental League.

To date this season Oshima sports a 14-2 mark with a 1.49 ERA in 16 starting assignments. He has held the opposition to a .188 batting average and has 127 strikeouts in 108.2 innings.


Republic League Announces #1 Starter

It was a very good month for Zachary Duncan in June. The 35-year-old veteran starter for the Cleveland Naps outpitched everybody -- young and old -- to claim the Republic League Pitcher of the Month award earlier today.

Duncan ran up a 5-0 record in his 5 starts during the month. In 35 innings he fanned 24 and recorded a 2.31 ERA.

This year Duncan has compiled a 8-4 mark with a 3.36 ERA.

June's Top Newcomer Picked by CL

A veritable toddler to the Continental League, Bartolo Lima just sewed up the Rookie of the Month trophy for June.

Over the past month the 23-year-old catcher for Plantana hit .264 with 29 hits, 5 home runs and 17 runs batted in. He also logged 6 walks and compiled a .302 on-base percentage.

For the year Lima has hit .226 with 7 home runs, 37 RBIs and scored 34 runs.


Big Month for RL Rookie

In June, 26-year-old Jorge Rocha swung a mighty big bat and bagged the Republic League Rookie of the Month award.

Last month he played in 24 games and hit .276 with 3 doubles, no triples, and 8 home runs. Rocha also scored 20 times and drove in 16 runs.

Continental League Picks July's Best Batter

On the heels of a very productive July, Jesús Morales received Continental League Batter of the Month recognition today.

The battle-tested center fielder hit .402 for the Omaha Bees and racked up 4 home runs, 21 RBIs and 11 runs scored.

Morales is hitting .316 this year with 16 home runs, 73 RBIs and 56 runs scored. He has 125 hits in 395 at-bats, 55 walks and a .405 on-base percentage. Morales has played in 103 games.


Las Vegas's Guzmán Bags RL Batting Award

The premier hitter in the Republic League in July was Las Vegas shortstop Eduardo Guzmán. For his standout play, he was voted the Batter of the Month.

Guzmán was selected after batting .377, hitting 10 home runs, scoring 21 runs and driving in 37.

This season Guzmán is batting .290 with 126 hits and 21 home runs. He has scored 70 times and has 84 RBI.

CL Selects McGinnis July's Best Starter

Ed McGinnis took home the Continental League Pitcher of the Month honors in July. After all these years playing ball, the 37-year-old veteran still enjoys the game as though he'd just broken camp for the first time a month ago. He's a bit older now with a few more aches and pains, but the old man has reason to celebrate, having gone 4-1 for Havana last month and claiming the Pitcher of the Month award.

He tacked up a 1.58 ERA in his 5 starts, tossing 40 innings and striking out 30.

For the year McGinnis has a 12-8 record with a 3.92 ERA in 21 starts.


New York Reliever Named RL #1 Pitcher

Júlio Valéncia has been around the league long enough to know that relievers are often overlooked. That has never stopped him from doing what he does best -- and he did it extremely well in July and stole away with the Republic League Pitcher of the Month award.

The Legends bullpen ace collected no saves and 23 strikeouts in 33.2 innings, holding the opposition to a .236 average and posting a 1.60 ERA and a 4-1 record.

So far this season, in no relief appearances Valéncia has compiled an ERA of 3.34. He has pitched 134.2 innings, struck out 95, walked 39 and registered no saves.

CL Chooses Rookie of the Month

The premier first-year player in the Continental League last month was Pedro Arteaga. London's center fielder put up some big-time numbers in July to haul in the Rookie of the Month Award.

Arteaga hit at a .357 clip while collecting 2 home runs, 11 RBIs and scoring 17 runs in 24 games.

For the season, Arteaga is hitting at a .233 clip with 10 home runs, 32 RBIs and has scored 51 runs. He has 97 hits, 25 walks and a .277 on-base percentage.


RL Names Brackett Best Rookie

The top-ranked Republic League rookie in July was Portland's left fielder Bob Brackett.

Last month he played in 22 games and hit .276 with 3 doubles, 1 triple, and no home runs. Brackett also scored 11 times and drove in 7 runs.

So far this year Brackett is batting .255 with 2 home runs, 24 RBIs and 49 runs scored.

Morales Top Hitter in CL in August

Though his face is weathered and his hands are calloused, Jesús Morales can still get it done in FOOL-X. In fact, the 32-year-old center fielder for Omaha was named the Continental League Batter of the Month today after putting up an impressive performance at the plate.

In August he batted .327 with 6 home runs, 21 RBIs and 21 runs scored.

Thus far this year Morales has hit .319 with 22 home runs and 94 RBIs.


Holland Named RL Batter of the Month

Forrest Holland capped off a fine August by being named the Republic League Batter of the Month today.

Portland's right fielder hit .364 while collecting 8 home runs, 28 RBIs and scoring 22 runs. He also drew 12 walks to post an OBP of .431.

So far this year Holland is hitting .325 with 22 home runs.

Freedom Starter Wins CL Pitching Award

No doubt about it!
Washington starter Narihira Oshima earned his Continental League Pitcher of the Month award.
He made that very clear as he mowed his way through league hitters in August.
During the month Oshima chalked up a 4-0 record with a 1.20 ERA.

The Freedom star made 6 starts and surrendered 29 hits in 45 innings. He struck out 45 and walked 7.

This year in 27 starts, Oshima has recorded 21 wins and absorbed 2 losses. He has pitched 186.2 innings, allowed 135 hits, struck out 201 and has a 1.49 ERA.


Pistone Takes RL #1 Pitcher Trophy

Etienne Pistone is at the zenith of his career and today he was selected as the Republic League Pitcher of the Month for August.

He made 14 relief appearances for Las Vegas last month, throwing 15 innings and collecting 13 saves, a 0-0 record, 17 strikeouts and a 0.60 ERA.

Pistone has 59 relief appearances this season with 40 saves. Pistone has also compiled a 1-2 won-lost mark with a 1.19 ERA. In 68 innings he has fanned 82.

The whole town is celebrating today in London as Pedro Arteaga has just been awarded August's Continental League Rookie of the Month trophy.

The standout rookie center fielder took the award by rapping out 33 hits in 111 at-bats for a .297 batting average. During the month he collected 5 home runs, drove in 12 runs and scored 18 times.

CL Choice for Batter of the Month is Arévalo

Cris Arévalo of the Omaha Bees swung a mean bat for the last 30 days and was acclaimed the Continental League Batter of the Month for September.

The 24-year-old second baseman slapped out a .408 batting average, 3 home runs, 15 RBIs, 26 runs scored and a .504 on-base percentage.

In 159 games this season Arévalo has batted at a .298 pace with 189 hits and 19 home runs.


Grafals Wins RL Prize, Named Best Hitter in September

For the month of September, José Grafals of the Spring Lions has really worn out the sweet spot on his bat. He has assaulted, used and abused Republic League pitchers to the tune of a .314 batting average and was honored as the hottest hitter of the month today.

Grafals went 33 for 105 last month with 12 walks. The left fielder tallied 11 home runs, 29 RBIs, 23 runs scored and compiled a .395 on-base percentage.

Grafals is currently batting .292 with 53 home runs and 140 RBIs.

García Gets September's Top Pitcher Trophy

Raúl García of Havana had an excellent September with a 6-0 record and was selected the Pitcher of the Month in the Continental League.

He finished the month with a 2.33 ERA while piling up 30 strikeouts in 38.2 innings and holding opposing hitters to a .209 batting average.

This season García has worked 200.1 innings with 166 strikeouts en route to a 18-7 record and a 3.77 ERA.


Waikiki Starter Named RL's #1 Pitcher

Carlos Morales of Waikiki had a tremendous September with a 4-0 mark and was chosen the Pitcher of the Month in the Republic League.

Morales restricted opposing hitters to 24 base hits and a .185 batting average. He rang up 33 strikeouts in 36 innings of work, surrendered 4 walks, and crafted a 1.75 ERA.

Up to now Morales has recorded a record of 14-4. In 32 starts he has fanned 215 batters in 208.2 innings with a 2.50 ERA.

Omaha Rookie Reels in Reward in September

Cris Arévalo had a standout September and today received the Continental League Rookie of the Month trophy.

Last month the 24-year-old Omaha second baseman played in 27 games and hit .408 with 6 doubles, 3 triples and 3 home runs. Arévalo also scored 26 times and drove in 15 runs.

Thus far this year Arévalo has hit .298 with 19 home runs and 76 RBIs.


Cleveland Newcomer September's Best Rookie

Jorge Rocha had a very good September and today was presented the Republic League Rookie of the Month trophy.

Last month the 26-year-old Cleveland left fielder played in 23 games and hit .253 with 6 doubles, 1 triple and 4 home runs. Rocha also scored 12 times and drove in 17 runs.

This season Rocha is swinging the bat at a .245 rate with 130 hits in 530 at-bats. To date he has hit 37 home runs, scored 83 runs and driven in 88.
