I prefer DestroyTwitter or TweetDeck. I don't understand why people use firefox plugins to consume stuff -- just junks it up.

Some people don't like going back and forth from applications when they spend 99% of their time in the browser.

The truth is that I don't really care for twitter, and the only thing I intend to use it for is to subscribe to a handful of occasionally updated feeds.

Tweetdeck and other apps like it would be useful if I were following a ton of different people, but since I don't, and I don't want another program running in the background, Twitterfox does the job for me.

I haven't tried DestroyTwitter, I'll have to check that out. TweetDeck crashes every 10 minutes for me, I think due to my 64bit OS.

Currently I'm using Twhirl, which is so-so.

After deciding Twitter was not for me earlier this week, I decided to register another account for this site. If this site or Operation Sports goes down, it will be useful having a status page with an easy to remember URL hosted on another domain.

That is why I use TwitterFox at work - I use Tweet Deck at home now and I really like it.

Is Twitter misbehaving for anybody else tonight? It's taking forever for it to load, it's not loading completely...

Not sure if it's something on my end or theirs (they did just do a bunch of maintenance/upgrades).

RT means 're-tweet', it's like quoting someone.
@soandso directs a tweet at someone, it's like PING: Lorena I guess.
I don't know what ::: means.

So in your example above, QBKILLA quoted MC Beat who quoted weavons 3 who directed the original tweet (the text at the end) at ddockett. Make sense?

Ahh ok. I knew what RT meant but all those other names and colons confused me. Thanks Fidatelo.

So... I have a Twitter account just to follow celebrities and crap. But I follow a co-worker too and he said the following was tweeted by me today (and I see it on my list of tweets):

"Cari's blog talks about how to lose over 35 lb's in a single month! Thanks Cari! http://google-gram.com"

But I didn't tweet that, and I use a non-normal password that wouldn't be easy to guess. Anyone know what's going on here?

Which means what? That lots of people's accounts got hacked? Or computers have viruses? I'd still be pretty worried...

It would surprise me if that many got hacked, though I suppose it's possible. Maybe a security hole in twitter itself?

lol yeah I didn't mean I'm not worried, just that it's interesting to see it happen to so many people. Seems like a pretty bad security hole or something... I don't know how my password could've been hacked or guessed.

I'd suggest you change your password as well as check your Twitter "connections" to see if they are all ones you have authorized...

Thanks. I don't have any applications listed under there, and I did changed my password right after it happened.

Yeah, I don't know how they would've gotten me to tweet that in the first place. Maybe someone has hacked the protocol and can make users post certain things without passwords...?

Yup, I am bumping this thread.

I am going to be using twitter more now for my status updates and such than FB. Also, I have found that it's easier to get certain info I am looking for from twitter.

Just installed tweetdeck on the iphone and i am using twhirl on the desktop...

macroguru is my twitter name and I think I have quite a few from here I already follow.

Since you bumped it anyway ... I've also ended up with a Twitter account, as it has also become something I'm dealing with for work (managing a client's Twitter accounts). As an aside, based on nothing really quantifiable at this point, I find that I actually get a better vibe from Twitter than from FB in terms of this particular client, the style is actually more comfortable for their message IMO.

I use it, but still don't understand why many people use it to post stupid crap "I am at the grocery store" Who the f*** Cares? I also don't get why random people started following me. You have no idea who I am, I have only posted a few replies to people and once in a while a thought on there, how exactly did I seem like someone to follow.

I follow a very strange group of people, if you put them in a group together that is.

Often those random follows seem to be people hoping you'll following them in return.

As for the random crap, I think that's actually part of the appeal for personal accounts in a weird way(not that I find many personal accounts appealing). Not every time go from one place to the next, but rather the random stuff out of the blue.

Started a parody account called @Unhipdad a few weeks ago. If you like mildly funny, SFW tweets then feel free to follow and retweet liberally to your respective massive user bases.
