Golden State Warriors - curse you people for killing my afternoon productivity
Again my favorites, not best, that I have seen in person PG - Tim Hardaway SG - World B Free SF - Chris Mullin PF - Larry Smith C - Andrew Bogut _ yes the Warriors center position has been so bad in my 40+ years of fandom I am going with the guy that played 20 hobbled minutes a game for 7 games. Still better than anyone I saw play there. Bench Benard King Jason Richardson Baron Davis Manute Bol Mitch Richmond |

Fiedler is a terrific example of the flaw in evaluating a QB based on wins and losses. Those Dolphins teams were loaded on defense and had terrific running games. According to Football Outsiders, he finished 20th, 8th, 19th, 20th, and 40th in his 5 Miami seasons. Also, he was probably one of the worst QB's in postseason history (1 TD, 8 INT in three playoff games with Miami). It always angered and frustrated me that Wannstedt was so fond of him.

Awesome idea! If I did that for the Jags, it'd be like 15 million WRs though. RJ Soward, Reggie Williams, Matt Jones, Jerry Porter, Jermaine Lewis, etc. It's been roto-receiver with every Kevin Johnson or Troy Edwards being brought on down for a year to play for our team and see what they have. EDIT: I haven't felt this good about Jags guys with Shorts and Blackmon than I have since Mike Sims-Walker broke out..

Man, going back and looking at all of these old rosters just shoots me with nostalgia for the team. Names like Marlon McCree, Akin Ayodele and Ernest Wilford just are full of rich meaning.

If that's the case, then you have to add Joe Zelenka as the long snapper for years and years. He was one of the most popular players on the team during his tenure. People loved him. I'd not be shocked if he doens;t pull a Boselli or Jeff Lageman and join the community with media or coaching with the Jags in a few years.

Pretty close to what I have. I think I would probably put Leiter instead of Sid. John Franco was probably the right answer for Mets closer in terms of longevity, but he just drove me nuts. I never saw him play but I think I'd go with Tug McGraw over him for what he meant to the franchise. As far as the lineup goes, I think you have it right, but I just want to give a passing mention to 3 personal favorites of mine. John Olerud - Mets haven't had a 1B as good since he left Todd Hundley - A bright spot in some dark years HoJo - My favorite player as a kid.

Pssh. Wasn't a question about Jerome vs Reggie, or Reggie vs anyone else. That's all positional depth. And definitely not a question about who was better...Reggie was, obviously, a better player than Hugh. I just loved watching Hugh Douglas play, and got to see him during some of my best years of watching the Eagles. |

Crud, I totally forget about Leiter (which is strange since he's from my hometown). Yeah, I agree, Leiter over Sid. Ah, John Olerud! I can't believe he only played 3 seasons for the Mets. He was unlucky that sabermetrics didn't take off until after he was in New York (well for the Mets). Would have been MUCH more appreciated. And Delgado DID have some good seasons before he got injured all the time.

Pitcher was pretty difficult too. You could have easily added Jeremy Affeldt, Dan Reichert and Kyle Snyder and Jason Grimsley. Grimsley had the trifecta of sucking, being outspoken during the collective bargaining process and getting nailed for PEDs. Quote:
How bad was Albie Lopez in 2003? During the Royals dazzling start, Lopez pitched 15 games in relief, managing to somehow go 4-2, while posting a 12.71 ERA. In case you think it was bad luck, his WHIP was 2.559 and he gave up 7 home runs in 22 innings. |

I always had a soft spot for Affeldt from when we used to wait outside after games to get autographs. If you're out there, you can see patterns develop where there were what we called "sacrificial lambs" who were thrown out to the autograph crowd so another 5 or so guys could drive away. John Buck was really good. DDJ, Sweeney, and Randa all signed a decent amount. But Affelt, he was /always/ there- more than anyone I ever saw. My friend had his "lucky" hat that was signed by Affeldt but he wore it off from wearing it too much. He just had Jeremy sign it again some other night like a year later because he was always there and would took and seemed like a decent guy. He just had that damn blister problem.
I strongly considered Grimsley for two of the three reasons listed: honestly, I can't remember how he pitched. But I remember him being a total dick about collective bargaining as the player rep and then the steroids. He's gotta be the biggest omission. SI

Also, I probably should have used Roberto Hernandez as Bottalico wasn't all that bad for the Royals while Hernandez was just a symbol of the mishandling of the early 2000s Royals

I just realized if I would have picked Dick LeBeau over Lem Barney I would have had a secondary full of Dicks!
I only picked Dorney over Lomas Brown because Creekmur played the same position as Brown & I don't know how he would have been on the right side. I could have made Creekmur a RT and the line would have been even better, but the best OL the team may have ever had gets to play his own position. And yes, I did select 3 MLB's. Name a Lion's OLB that should bump one of these guys off the field. |
