1867 (Season 30) RFA Thread
Got an upcoming free agent? Designed him as an RFA here. Every team is now eligible for RFA.
RFA Compensation Rules: If a team designates a player as a restricted free agent and matches an offer he receives, they give up a 1st round pick to the team that made the offer sheet. If they don't have a 1st rounder, they send the next highest pick they own for that season. Teams offering on RFAs may only receive 1 compensatory pick, regardless of how many restricted free agents they sign. If a team declines to match an offer on a restricted free agent, they receive no compensation from the signing team. RFA teams have until the next sim from when the player signed to decide whether to keep him or let him go. If the owner doesn't respond, he will automatically remain with his new team. Also, you mentioned last offseason about there being draft picks possibly tied to RFAs in the future. Are we doing that this year? |

I updated the first post with some rules. We'll just see how it goes this year and tweak as necessary. The reason that it's a 1st rounder is to deter people possibly using RFA to jack up the price wildly on a guy, because most teams are going to think twice about bringing someone back (aka Linsanity) if they've got too high a 1st rounder and have to pay a lot too. So the idea is to make a cost to both teams, in a sense. Again, we'll see how it goes and adapt as necessary in the future. |

Sign and trade deals between an RFA team and the team that sent an offer sheet are also allowed (to say, circumvent the 1st rounder penalty or simply to work out a more mutually beneficial deal.)

Tom White signed with Las Vegas, St. Louis has 24 hours to match the offer sheet or he stays with the Aces.

St. Louis declines to match the offer on White, instead agreeing to a sign and trade with Las Vegas.

Thanks for the heads up. I'll fix it before Monday.
