Things to do in Denver
I'm going to be in Denver (well Golden at the School of Mines) for the week on a course and was looking for some recommendations for things to check out in the evening. I would really appreciate any restaurant recommendations that you have. I'll be staying in Golden and the only evening event I have planned is catching a Nuggets game. The one thing I'd love to find is some retro nuggets swag, preferably the old tetris logo.
Thanks! |

Dola: Any thoughts on how to get to the Nuggets game? I have a rental car but the game is at 7 and I don't exactly want to spend my evening sitting in traffic. Is public transit a good option?

Go to the Buckhorn Exchange if you can swing the price. Cherry Cricket, Jack-n-Grill, Freshcraft and Big Hoss BBQ are also good places to eat.

The traffic isn't that bad, really relative to a real city for going to games, I mean. Especially if you're going to be in Golden, the best option is to drive and pay to park. Last edited by Young Drachma : 01-14-2013 at 11:26 AM. |

Depends on what you like:
Ace Eat Serve is not far from downtown, it's a ping-pong bar with apparently decent food and drinks. I thought they were slightly overpriced, but not bad for a tourist. I believe you have to be reserved to play pong, but if you have someone else with you, it might be a nice play to go. Marco's Coal Fired Pizza Good pizza, really good salads and good drinks. A good place to take out of towners (I brought my family here when they came to visit. They enjoyed it, despite their weirdness about certain food. Another place that's relatively accessible downtown, so you could eat here and head to the game (again, a car is vital. Plus it's winter.) Atomic Cowboy Inside of this bar is a pizza joint called Fat Sully's, which is the best NY Pizza joint in Denver. Really huge slices, huge screens to watch sports and better priced drinks than anywhere I've listed to this point. A bit further up on Colfax than the other places I listed which are basically downtown are closer, but...it's a main drag and there's other stuff on that block including Hooked on Colfax , one of my favorite coffee shops and The Shoppe, a cupcake and cereal joint that's a block away (a few doors down from the 7-11 and next door to the liquor store.) The Kitchen It's a relatively new restaurant downtown. Interesting menu and on the night we went, it didn't change my life. But it's the sort of place I'd take out of towners the next time I have some, as it's different than a lot of places. Tocabe - An American Indian Eatery This is a bit of a different kind of place. They make Native American fry bread and an assortment of other interesting things. Certainly a unique place to try if you're in town. So those are a few options (with links to each in the bold) to get you started. |

Euclid Hall is probably my favorite restaurant downtown and an easy walk from Pepsi Center where the Nuggets play. There is a bus that will get you there in one shot, it's about an hour ride.
Really not a whole lot in Golden, except Coors. No real stand our restaurants to speak of. The Fort is south of there about 10 miles, supposed to be good for higher end dining and some western style foods. Red Rocks amphitheater is to the south too, worth checking out even if there isn't a concert going.

Thank you so much for the options, those sound really great. And thanks to everyone else who's contributed so far. It sounds that Denver is basically the same city that I live in, just the american version. Sprawled out, mountains to the west, warm winds (mile high vs kilometer high), traffic not too bad, lots of winter, some culture/restaurants but mainly in isolated areas. |

I would make sure Ray Lewis has left town before I show up.
