PowerHouse - NFL GM Sim

I will be the first to admit, my search the forum skills are poor at best, but was clicking through Kickstarter and saw this:

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/...re-hi?ref=live

It's a NFL GM Sim, and they already have a website.

http://content.powerhousegm.com/powerhouse-home-nl

Anyone have any experience or research on this already?

This comes from the website:

"I'm a PowerHouse addict."
- Matt Miller, Founder of New Era Scouting and Lead Draft Writer for Bleacher Report
"I was a personnel executive in pro football for 25 years, and this is the most realistic simulation I’ve seen. You can be your own GM and run a team following all the same rules the real GMs have to follow."
- Bill Kuharich, former VP of Player Personnel, KC Chiefs
"My initial reaction was I would probably quit fantasy and just play this."
- Rick Serritella, Founder & Publisher, The NFL Draft Bible
"When fantasy football just isn't enough anymore, the smart football fan will turn to PowerHouse for their fix."
- Ross Miles, IDP Fantasy Editor, Pro Football Focus

From reading the site, it looks like Fantasy on steroids:

Don't Just Follow the NFL...
Now you can be the GM of a real team, 52 weeks a year.
  • Sign Free Agents in March
  • Draft along with the NFL Draft in April
  • Cut your roster to 53 in September
  • Find replacements for injured players during the season
  • Play a 16-game schedule against the real teams
That sounds like Fantasy (real players on the regular NFL schedule), but with the full NFL economic model: salaries, bonuses, roster limits, etc. Not sure how the fantasy bit will run or deal with, say, O-Linemen, but it sure sounds like 1 season per year.

I know the kettle is black on this due to playing MMOs, but $100 for a year sub as the starting option seems rather foolish right now.

For $50 they'll thank me on their website. Neato!

It sounds like a spreadsheet game ... you're taking players based on their real-life contracts, draft positions and results. It's the kind of thing I bet most of us did back in the day before fantasy football, FPS and FOF. $100? Ouch.

But for $1,500 I can get on a conference call with someone who may or may not be Bill Kuharich? Neato indeed.

I'm still sort of confused about how this works, but count me in the crowd that enjoys a text sim's ability to move faster than real life.

It's not a text sim, it's fantasy football on steroids. Don't think of it as an FOF replacement, think of it as vastly expanding the offseason for auction fantasy leagues.
