I still have 2B/SS David Remijio and OF D.J. Struchen if you're into that. I'm looking for players, not picks.

Now that Ribic is getting comfortable in his new battefield-front condo in G'burg, he is of course available for trade.
I could offer up to the full value of his contract this season in cap space.

Do we need a sign and trade rule?

I'm new but for a league like this, a snt rule might be good. June 1st for one year deals, offseason for multiple years

Non SNT in fast sim is a little overkill.
Theres already not enough 'non- DC' trading going on here. Let's not put a bigger damper on player movement or owner interaction. Dont worry. I'm not trading Ribic. And even if I did, who would it hurt?

I think its usually a house rule because gms can sign a guy, which costs them nothing and trade him for other pieces/talent.

My philosophy on sign and trade has been, so long as no one was intentionally going out, driving the price up on a guy and then dealing him for assets. That's never been a problem here in the 32 seasons before, so I never saw a real reason for the rule. Because to date (though not recently) the only sign and trades we saw were situations where someone signed too many of a particular player, had extra, the player had a market-appropriate contract and then traded him to a team for essentially cost of the deal to get out from under it. I doubt I'd implement a rule though, I'd just reject a sign and trade if I thought it crossed the line versus blocking it entirely, because I think there are acceptable scenarios for it. Like with most things, just don't abuse it. For perspective, I know another league where the last trade happened five months ago & it was when I was in the league the last time. Hell, two off-seasons ago, we had like six trades in one night and not all of them involved me. So our trade market is okay. It's really just a cultural situation where some owners really just prefer to grow their teams organically and there are some of us who just aren't afraid to pull the trigger and then some of us who just LIKE trading for the sake of it. If I thought there was a real problem with the trade market, I'd probably try to implement incentives to spur it, but...I think we have a good handle on it and my experience has been dealing with everyone in here at one point or another, that there are just different trading philosophies and team building ones. That's okay. |
