EA's Support is awesome.

I've been having a problem running Origin, which is unfortunately necessary for me to play Mass Effect 3.

So I decided to brave the Origin tech support forums.

Hilarity has ensued. I present to you EA's Technical 'Support'.

Anyone here have any ideas as to how I can resolve this on my own?

I had the same problem once, after uninstalling and reinstalling a few times it seemed to work itself out.

Huh. I've uninstalled and re-installed about 10 times. I guess I'll keep trying.

Though it seems more Origin problems have popped up.

I think you should try being more snarky with them in the support thread. It will probably motivate them to try harder to help you.

I was expecting to see a: "WELCOME TO HOLLYWOOD!!" response from the 'tech support' person.

I'm usually pretty good with keeping the snark out - I've been in customer service related jobs pretty much my entire life (restaurants, teaching and now in the utility field). This is absurd though - it's been over a week, and the only solutions I've been presented are things that I have already mentioned that I have done. The most recent is the best, considering he/she didn't even read the prior post that they were responding to.

Edit: I also thought it was a nice touch that they responded to the random other guy posting in my thread about receiving his logs, but gave me no such response.

I suggest you install Origin to the default Origin folder.

I actually had a similar problem Vince with an earlier Mass Effect game - never got it working at all, eventually convinced them to give me my money back. That was a few years ago though and seemed like their support was slightly better.

If that doesn't work, you should try disabling your antivirus and firewall.

And more importantly, how much graphics does it have? Do you have a computer with a lot or one with maybe not enough graphics to run Origin?

I envision some sort of 6 headed hydra beast working there. There's probably a lot of heads that need to go.

Yea, one of the Mass Effects, I fixed that bug. EA banned me for fixing it though. The problem was with the file you use to do settings. It COMPLETELY bricks the game when you run it. If you don't run it the game defaults to 800x600 with min settings. There are probably STILL do this day dozens of issues in the tech forum about this.

The "fix" is to only run it on your first download, uninstall the game, and re-install and never run it again. It saved the settings from your first install. They actually deleted my thread when I fixed it and banned me from the forums. Instead they do crap like you see in the thread this guy linked.

I wouldn't play another Origin game if they opened them all up for free....which they actually did by accident last year.

Gee wiz, who'da thought that offshoring support to China to save costs would result in a decrease in quality.

There was a news story over here a little while ago that I found hilarious. It's pretty standard that many Aussie companies offshore their call centres to the Philippines, and one of our major telecomms providers had one of these workers phoning up folks with large phone bills and offering to cut it to $0 for a direct payment to himself of significantly less than what they owe. It was going on for some time. Serves them right IMO.

I know you are kidding, but I'll give you a series answer. I do own an XBOX and a Playstation, but as I've grown older screen tearing started making me sick to my stomach. The consoles aren't able to eliminate this on many games, so I use a computer for VSYNC, among many other reasons.

It isn't my fault EA is too stupid to correctly make PC games. Everyone else has it figured out, atleast well enough to know that Steam is where the money is. If EA can't figure THAT out, what right do we have to expect them to make games that actually work correctly?

I can understand *why* EA would want to develop their own "Steam", but if Steam only sold Valve titles I'd likely never have played HL2 or any other Valve game since.
