CL Batter of the Month Honors to Peralta

Snap, crackle and pop!
In April, Francisco Peralta snapped up the Continental League Batter of the Month trophy by cracking 38 hits and popping 11 home runs.

For the month he hit a solid .369 with 35 RBIs and 32 runs scored. The Apex left fielder also picked up 18 walks to compile a .455 on-base percentage.

Not known for his offensive prowess, José Ramírez set the league afire in April and took home the Republic League Batter of the Month award.

The Ann Arbor right fielder posted a steady .362 batting average, 10 home runs, 17 RBIs and 24 runs.

CL Pitcher of the Month Goes to Rodríguez

He was the best pitcher in April according to the voters. Miguel Rodríguez shut down enemy batters to win the Continental League Pitcher of the Month Award.

Brooklyn's star reliever held the opposition to a .161 average and put up 8 saves and 11 strikeouts in 16.1 innings with a 3-0 mark and a 0.00 ERA.


Rivas Wins RL Top Pitcher Honors

Manuel Rivas's been around the league long enough to appreciate the honor he received today. After going 5-1 in April, the 31-year-old Omaha hurler has been named Republic League Pitcher of the Month.

He fanned 13 in 46.1 innings, logged an ERA of 2.53 and allowed opponents to hit .264 against him.

Continental League Names Rookie of Month

Youngster Kyle Price emerged as the latest Continental League Rookie of the Month today. The young man from Apex deserved the honor, batting .333 with 4 home runs and 27 runs batted in. Is the month of April a harbinger of things to come or just a fluke? We'll find out someday, but for now, we'll just let Price enjoy the limelight.


RL Selects Rookie Star of the Month

Randall Stewart is still a bit shy, but then, who could blame the newest Republic League Rookie of the Month honoree? He hasn't been around the league long enough to fully know the ropes yet, despite the fact that he's putting up veteran-like numbers.

In April the Hammersmith hitter tagged opposing pitching for a .379 average with 36 hits, 3 home runs and 20 RBIs.

CL's #1 Batter Announced

To survive in the bigs, you've got to be a scrapper like Samuel Demers. It never pays to take a day off from the batting cages or to shrug off the advice of the hitting coach. It all paid off today as Cleveland's center fielder pinned down the Continental League Batter of the Month trophy today.

He hit .350 in May collecting 10 home runs, 28 RBIs and 19 runs scored.

Demers is hitting .344 for the season with 20 home runs, 57 RBIs and 45 runs scored. He has 72 hits in 209 at-bats and played in 53 games.


Atlanta's Hirayama Snags May Batting Title

When guys like Atlanta's Noburo Hirayama win Batter of the Month awards, it just makes you feel good. In a productive May, the longtime Republic League veteran toyed with opposing pitchers all month long, collecting 41 hits in 92 at-bats.

The veteran left fielder hit for a .446 batting average and collected 6 home runs, 19 RBIs and 23 runs scored.

Hirayama is hitting .401 this season with 11 home runs, 32 RBIs and 37 runs scored. He has 75 hits in 187 at-bats.

May's #1 Starter Named in CL

Bob Kane took home the Continental League Pitcher of the Month honors in May. After all these years playing ball, the 35-year-old veteran still enjoys the game as though he'd just broken camp for the first time a month ago. He's a bit older now with a few more aches and pains, but the old man has reason to celebrate, having gone 6-0 for Noblesville last month and claiming the Pitcher of the Month award.

He tacked up a 2.47 ERA in his 6 starts, tossing 43.2 innings and striking out 37.

In pitching stats this season Kane has rung up 9 wins and 2 losses in 12 games. He has an ERA of 2.50 and has fanned 71 batters in 82.2 innings.


Marlboros Hurler Named RL's Best Starter

In May, Russell Davis tore through the Republic League like a seasoned veteran -- quite impressive for a player only 22 years old.

The young Toronto starter posted a 6-0 mark and an ERA of 0.86 to earn the Pitcher of the Month award. In 41.2 innings he collected 43 strikeouts while limiting the opposition to a .184 average.

On his stats sheet this season Davis shows a 10-1 record, 12 starts, 85.2 innings, 75 strikeouts and a 1.58 ERA.

May's Best Rookie Trophy Awarded

John Somers's eyes seem to light up whenever he sees the baseball. The young Brooklyn shortstop has been hitting everything in sight for the better part of a month.

In May he was voted the Rookie of the Month Award.

During the month he hit .360 with 7 doubles, no triples and 7 home runs. Somers also scored 21 times and drove in 24 runs.

This season Somers has hit at a .310 clip with 29 RBIs, 7 home runs and 35 runs scored.

A veritable toddler to the Republic League, Alfonso Fernández just sewed up the Rookie of the Month trophy for May.

Over the past month the 25-year-old center fielder for Hammersmith hit .314 with 37 hits, 6 home runs and 20 RBI. He also logged 3 walks and compiled a .339 on-base percentage.

So far this season, Fernández has recorded a .293 batting average with 67 hits, 16 home runs, 48 RBIs, 43 runs scored and a .329 OBP.

Alexander Takes Best Bat Award in June

Kenny Alexander received the Continental League Batter of the Month trophy earlier today for his efforts at the plate this last month.

"He might be getting older," Noblesville's manager told reporters, "But he's been around long enough to know what it takes to put a stretch such as this together... and he doesn't keep that to himself. He's always talking to the younger guys in the clubhouse helping 'em any way they'll let him. Kenny's value to our team goes farther than the numbers he puts up on the field."

To win the honor Alexander put up a .388 batting average, 8 home runs, 15 RBIs and scored 22 times in June.

So far in 2205 Alexander is batting .342 with 20 home runs, 51 RBIs and 61 runs scored. He has 109 hits in 319 at-bats and a .416 OBP.


Quentin Rich Selected June's Best Batter

The Republic League has made it official -- Quentin Rich is the winner of the Batter of the Month trophy.

In June, the Atlanta right fielder starred with a .325 batting average, 8 home runs and 13 RBIs. Rich also had 8 walks, posted a .367 on-base percentage and scored 25 times.

In 83 games this season Rich has batted at a .326 pace with 116 hits and 19 home runs.

Napa Valley's Petrelia Top Pitcher in June

June's #1 hurler was Richard Petrelia of Napa Valley. He gunned down Continental League hitters the whole month and claimed the Pitcher of the Month award. The Winemakers star piled up 4 wins and no losses to take the honor.

The 25-year-old Petrelia added 31 strikeouts in 45.2 innings and 9 walks to his season record and compiled a 1.97 ERA. Other clubs hit .232 against him.

Thus far this season, Petrelia has worked 119.1 innings with 68 strikeouts en route to a 8-5 record and a 3.70 ERA.


June's Top Hurler is Gómez

Despite the number of years he's been in the league, Dani Gómez still gets excited when he puts together a quality stretch like he had in June. The 28-year-old starter for Ann Arbor was named Republic League Pitcher of the Month earlier today.

He collected 4 wins and 1 loss with 28 strikeouts in his 6 starts, putting up a fine 1.28 ERA in 42.1 innings of work.

To date this season, Gómez has registered 17 starts, 6-6 won-lost mark, 2.95 ERA, 109.2 IP, 87 strikeouts and 22 walks. Opposing teams have hit .244 against him.

Somers Named Newcomer of the Month

John Somers earned June's Rookie of the Month honors in the Continental League for last month's performance. The boyish Brooklyn shortstop might be wet behind the ears, but he's proving that he has what it takes to play at this level.

Somers hit .324 with 7 home runs, 17 RBIs and 17 runs scored this past month on his way to winning the award.

This season Somers is batting .315 with 14 home runs. He has scored 52 runs and driven in 46.


RL Rookie Vote Goes to Stewart

FOOL News: The All-Star Game Rosters Have Been Announced

The Continental League All-Stars versus the Republic League All-Stars. It happens every year halfway through the season. It's a baseball spectacle for the fans and the players alike. It's the 2205 Front Office Offseason League All-Star Game. The fans get to see all their favorite stars perform in the same game, and the outstanding players get to play against each other. Martínez Claims CL Batter of the Month Award

The Continental League has selected its Hitter of the Month for July and the honor went to Carlos Martínez, Brooklyn's fine third baseman.

Martínez was selected after batting .371, hitting 4 home runs, scoring 17 runs and driving in 22.

During the current season Martínez is batting at a .311 clip with 7 home runs and 59 RBIs. He has played in 108 games and scored 65 times.

July was a very productive month for Manolo Vargas, and today the Toronto center fielder was rewarded with the Republic League Batter of the Month honors.

CL Selects Manuel July's Best Pitcher

Veteran Roberto Manuel put together quite a successful stretch in July for the Brooklyn Brownstones, earning himself the Continental League Pitcher of the Month award.

Manuel racked up a 4-0 record in 5 starts, posting a 1.49 ERA over 36.1 innings and striking out 26.

His record this season is 14-4 in 22 starts and Manuel has a 2.10 ERA.


García RL Winner, Top Hurler in July

July's #1 hurler was Jesús García of Tokyo. He gunned down Republic League hitters the whole month and claimed the Pitcher of the Month award. The Catfish star piled up 4 wins and no losses to take the honor.

The 26-year-old García added 40 strikeouts in 40 innings and 10 walks to his season record and compiled a 1.58 ERA. Other clubs hit .270 against him.

García has posted a 12-5 record for the year with a 2.69 ERA. Teams are hitting .269 against him and he has rung up 127 strikeouts in 147.1 innings.

In July John Somers put up award-winning numbers, batting his way to a Rookie of the Month award in the Continental League.

Hernández Crowned Batter of the Month in August

Ramón Hernández put his mark on the Continental League this August by putting together some award-winning numbers. Baltimore's left fielder took home the Batter of the Month award on the strength of his .358 batting average.

He tacked up 44 hits, 3 home runs, 20 RBIs and 23 runs scored.

So far this season Hernández has hit .350 with 21 home runs, 93 RBIs and and scored 90 times.


Rich Earns August's Top Batter Prize in RL

August's Batter of the Month Award has been given out by the Republic League. This month's trophy was presented to the Atlanta right fielder, Quentin Rich.

Rich is batting .322 this year with 33 home runs, 88 RBIs and 100 runs scored. He has 187 hits in 580 at-bats.

Gauthier Is August's Best CL Hurler

René Gauthier of the Brooklyn Brownstones strung a bunch of high quality starts together in August to earn the Continental League Pitcher of the Month trophy.

For the month he finished with a superlative 5 wins and no losses and a 3.15 ERA. The Brooklyn star started 5 games, pitched 34.1 innings and struck out 21.

Thus far this season, Gauthier has tossed 177.2 innings in 26 starts, fanned 90 batters, walked 34 and put up a 3.09 ERA with 16 wins and 6 losses.

The Pitcher of the Month has been picked and the Republic League trophy went to Omaha hurler Aurelio Rivas for his strong performance in August.
