CL's Best Batter Announced

Carlos Rodríguez battered Continental League pitchers all April and wound up taking home the Batter of the Month Award.

"I've been around Front Office Offseason League long enough to know you really have to work hard day in and day out to be able to put up this kind of consistency," the 32-year-old Rodríguez told reporters. "I put in a lot of work, even on the days I might not take the field, and it's always nice when everything comes together for me like it did this last month."

In 27 games, Rodríguez hit .374 with 12 home runs, 33 RBIs and scored 24 runs.

Toronto first baseman Manuel Rodríguez took home the Republic League Batter of the Month Trophy for April.

He put up some solid numbers, including a .375 batting average and .450 on-base percentage with 39 hits, 4 home runs, 12 RBIs and 17 runs scored.

Marchand Gets CL #1 Pitcher Trophy

Harry Marchand hasn't been around the big leagues long enough to know that youngsters shouldn't be winning Continental League Pitcher of the Month. But when you put up numbers like his, you're going to get some notice.

In April the Brooklyn starter earned a 5-0 mark in 5 starts. He threw 36.2 innings, struck out 37 and compiled a solid 1.47 ERA.


Republic League Names #1 Pitcher in April

Richard Cummings has been around the league long enough to know that relievers are often overlooked. That has never stopped him from doing what he does best -- and he did it extremely well in April and stole away with the Republic League Pitcher of the Month award.

The Catfish bullpen ace collected 9 saves and 23 strikeouts in 18.1 innings, holding the opposition to a .206 average and posting a 0.49 ERA and a 2-1 record.

22-year-old Harry Marchand is deceptively poised for such a young man. In 5 starts he bagged 5 wins in April and took home the Continental League Rookie of the Month Award.

The Brooklyn hurler logged a 5-0 record, 37 strikeouts in 36.2 innings, held opponents to a .164 average and compiled an ERA of 1.47.

A veritable toddler to the Republic League, Leon Sutcliffe just sewed up the Rookie of the Month trophy for April.

Over the past month the 23-year-old first baseman for Ann Arbor hit .269 with 25 hits, 8 home runs and 23 runs batted in. He also logged 12 walks and compiled a .358 on-base percentage.

Continental League Announces May's Best Batter

Beach balls were coming in at Ramón Hernández in May and he banged, bashed and blasted them all over the park, putting up a .385 batting average and hauling in the Continental League Batter of the Month trophy.

The 23-year-old Baltimore left fielder collected 45 hits last month in 28 games. He put up 8 home runs, 20 RBIs and 27 runs scored. Hernández also drew 18 walks and compiled a .463 on-base percentage.

This year Hernández is batting .339 with 13 home runs and 31 RBIs.


RL's #1 Batter Announced

The vote is in and Manolo Vargas, the 27-year-old left fielder for Toronto, is the winner. Today he was honored with the Republic League Batter of the Month award.

In May, Vargas wowed voters with a .383 average while posting up 5 home runs, 20 RBIs, 20 runs scored and a .443 on-base percentage.

In 56 games Vargas is hitting .344 this season with 74 hits, 6 home runs, 29 RBIs, 19 walks, .398 OBP and has scored 26 runs.

Reliever Snags CL Top Hurler Trophy

Wen-zhong Bao was the anchor in the Noblesville bullpen last month and snatched up the Continental League Pitcher of the Month honors for May. The 29-year-old is in the prime of his career and pitching like he intends to stay around baseball for quite some time to come.

He threw 15.2 innings over 14 relief appearances and collected a 2-0 record with 9 strikeouts and 8 saves while etching his 1.15 ERA.

So far this season Bao has 12 saves in 25 relief appearances with a 4-1 mark and 2.87 ERA. Opposing teams are hitting .325 against him.


Davis May's Best Hurler in RL

It was a sensational May for Russell Davis as he mystified, mesmerized and terrorized opposing batters to capture the Republic League Pitcher of the Month trophy.

Davis locked down a 5-0 mark in 6 starts last month, striking out 38 while walking 7 in 44 innings and posting a 1.23 ERA.

To date this season Davis is 7-2 with 12 starts and an ERA of 1.49 with 73 strikeouts in 90.1 innings.

CL Selects Rookie Star of the Month

Noburo Nakagawa's eyes seem to light up whenever he sees the baseball. The young Napa Valley center fielder has been hitting everything in sight for the better part of a month.

In May he was voted the Rookie of the Month Award.

During the month he hit .326 with 10 doubles, 1 triple and 4 home runs. Nakagawa also scored 12 times and drove in 17 runs.

Thus far this season Nakagawa is hitting .284 with 5 home runs, 22 RBIs and 19 runs scored. He has 55 hits in 194 at-bats and has played in 55 games.


Great Month Gets RL Top Rookie Trophy

Alfonso Vélez is still a bit shy, but then, who could blame the newest Republic League Rookie of the Month honoree? He hasn't been around the league long enough to fully know the ropes yet, despite the fact that he's putting up veteran-like numbers.

In May the Hartford hitter tagged opposing pitching for a .377 average with 40 hits, 1 home run and 17 RBIs.

Vélez is hitting .311 in 2207 with 21 RBIs and 1 home run.

June's Best CL Hitter is Kevin Curtis

Kevin Curtis of the Brooklyn Brownstones was named the Continental League's best batter for his fine performance in June.

He compiled a .400 batting average and .434 on-base percentage during the month. In 26 games he piled up 46 hits, 5 home runs, 21 RBIs and 23 runs scored.

So far this season Curtis has hit .324 with 11 home runs, 42 RBIs and and scored 55 times.


Vargas Wins Best Bat Award in June

June was a very productive month for Manolo Vargas, and today the Toronto left fielder was rewarded with the Republic League Batter of the Month honors.

He clobbered enemy hurlers for a .364 average, 6 home runs, and 18 RBIs and scored 19 runs.

In 83 games this year Vargas has posted a .350 average and put up these numbers: 12 home runs, 47 RBIs and 45 runs scored.

CL Announces June's Best Starter

The Continental League named the winner of the Pitcher of the Month Award.
It went to Ryosei Kato of Halifax Winter Wolves, who impressed the voters with a glittering 5-0 record in June.

The Halifax star hurler made 6 starts, allowed 33 hits in 45.1 innings, struck out 25 and had a 1.99 ERA.

This year Kato has fanned 59 in 100.1 innings and collected a 6-2 record with a 4.13 ERA.


RL Top Pitcher in June: Harris

"The kid had it all working last month," a veteran teammate told reporters. "He keeps up those kind of numbers, we might have to start inviting him out with us after the games."

Earl Harris put together a very solid month to take home the Republic League's top pitching honor in June.

The 23-year-old reliever threw like a veteran. In 11 relief appearances he raked in 6 saves and 12 strikeouts in 16.1 innings as he put together his 4-0 record and 1.10 ERA.

Harris has 17 saves this season with a won-lost record of 5-1 and 2.13 ERA.

López Wins June's Rookie Award

Youngster Alonso López emerged as the latest Continental League Rookie of the Month today. The young man from Apex deserved the honor, batting .287 with 3 home runs and 9 runs batted in. Is the month of June a harbinger of things to come or just a fluke? We'll find out someday, but for now, we'll just let López enjoy the limelight.

López has a .282 average and a .354 on-base percentage for the year. He has picked up 87 hits, 11 home runs and driven in 33 runs.


Top RL Rookie of the Month Named

FOOL News: The All-Star Game Rosters Have Been Announced

The Continental League All-Stars versus the Republic League All-Stars. It happens every year halfway through the season. It's a baseball spectacle for the fans and the players alike. It's the 2207 Front Office Offseason League All-Star Game. The fans get to see all their favorite stars perform in the same game, and the outstanding players get to play against each other. The players are out to prove that their league is the best. Players are chosen by a vote of the fans.

Brooklyn's Wade Snaps up July Batting Award

Seasoned by several years of professional experience, 28-year-old Frank Wade put together a solid offensive month for Brooklyn and was crowned July's top batter in the Continental League.

He batted .471 with 3 home runs, 16 RBIs and 24 runs scored.



For the season, Wade is hitting at a .344 clip with 16 home runs, 56 RBIs and has scored 85 runs. He has 148 hits, 34 walks and a .409 on-base percentage.


Red-Hot July Lands Rodríguez Batting Prize in RL

Manuel Rodríguez of the Toronto Marlboros spoke softly and carried a big stick in July and was justifiably proclaimed the Republic League Batter of the Month.

The Marlboros first baseman rapped out a .306 batting average with 30 hits in 98 at-bats, drove in 16, scored 19 runs and chalked up a .414 on-base percentage.

This year Rodríguez is batting .302 with 122 hits, 21 home runs, 66 RBIs, 72 walks, .409 OBP and has scored 69 runs.

Roberts Premier Pitcher in July

The premier pitcher this past month in the Continental League was Jacob Roberts of the Apex Assassins. He was one mighty tough pitcher, finishing July with a sensational 4-0 record and a 1.27 ERA.

The Assassins star made 5 starts and surrendered 25 hits in 42.2 innings. He struck out 32 and walked 5.

This year Roberts has a 11-2 record with a 1.75 ERA.


RL Selects Tremblay July's Best Starter

Veteran Noah Tremblay put together quite a successful stretch in July for the Tokyo Catfish, earning himself the Republic League Pitcher of the Month award.

Tremblay racked up a 4-1 record in 7 starts, posting a 1.52 ERA over 47.1 innings and striking out 39.

In 26 starts this season, Tremblay has picked up 14 wins while suffering 5 losses. He has pitched 176.2 innings, allowed 143 hits, struck out 148 and posted a 1.88 ERA.

July's Top CL Rookie Named

José Gonzáles wreaked havoc on Continental League pitching last month and led the charge for the Rookie of the Month Award.

In July he batted .304 for the Bullets, lashing 28 hits and 7 home runs. The Leduc first baseman also drove in 21 runs and scored 16 times to round out a most impressive month.

So far this year in 108 games Gonzáles is hitting .248 with 21 home runs, 72 RBIs and 52 runs scored.

July was a month to remember for Tokyo first baseman Carlos González and it was capped off today with the announcement that he was named the winner of the Republic League Rookie of the Month award.

González compiled a .352 batting average and .385 on-base percentage last month. In 25 games he piled up 32 hits, 7 home runs, 23 RBIs and 16 runs scored.

In the current season, González has put up a .281 batting average with 105 hits, 13 home runs, 57 runs batted in and scored 46 runs.

The Continental League has made it official -- Ramón Hernández is the winner of the Batter of the Month trophy.

In August, the Baltimore left fielder starred with a .400 batting average, 8 home runs and 22 RBIs. Hernández also had 9 walks, posted a .455 on-base percentage and scored 21 times.

There's no doubt that Assassins starter Josh Cowan earned his Continental League Pitcher of the Month award. He left absolutely no room for doubt as he mowed his way through the opposition in August.

During the month Cowan was 5-0 with a 1.43 ERA. He made 6 starts, tossed 44 innings and had 46 strikeouts.

To this point in the season, Cowan shows a 16-4 record, 26 starts, 178.1 innings, 170 strikeouts and a 1.87 ERA.

Feng-xiang Tseng certainly found a groove in August. The Omaha starter posted 4 wins last month to easily claim the Republic League Pitcher of the Month.

To date this season Tseng has compiled a 16-8 record with a 2.65 ERA in 32 starts.

The Republic League made the official announcement today. The Rookie of the Month trophy went to Justin Buckley of Ann Arbor. He was singled out as the premier rookie in August.

Last month the 23-year-old Winged Lingerines center fielder played in 27 games and hit .313 with 4 doubles, no triples and 7 home runs. Buckley also scored 18 times and drove in 18 runs.
