Anyone Here Use Police Scanners?
My grandmother just got A Uniden Bearcat BC345CRS. She gave it to me and asked me to program it. WHAT THE HELL IS THIS THING?
I thought I was on the right path by going here RadioReference.com - Scanner Frequencies and Radio Frequency Reference, and looking up the frequencies for my area but the machine is only letting me put 6 digits in when each frequency is at least 7 digits. I'm effing lost. |

I had one so long ago that they still had crystals. (No, I'm not exaggerating)
I can't vouch for the accuracy of this but from radioshack.com Question: How do I enter a 7-digit frequency when the scanner only takes 6 digits? Answer: You will need to round off the last digit. note: Increasingly, police frequencies are encrypted & cannot be picked up by civilian scanners. Not sure whether that list you mentioned is pointing those out or not.

I think I figured it out, not sure how exactly. My grandmothers died and she's bought 3 in the past month and returned them all because they "get too many channels". I was just gonna get her A used one on ebay like the her old one (had it 20+ years) but hopefully I got this one figured out.

There are some good android and apple apps that will let you listen to scanners. Two good ones are scanner radio and scanner 5-0. You can pick up local channels and others, like chicago and LA, etc. Also, stuff in other countries.
