Abandonware sites
I know there had been a thread some time ago about The Underdogs site. Thought I'd start a thread to pool all the abandonware sites as there are some great old games available for download at no cost if you look around. Found a lot of them while looking for Micro League Baseball disk images. The ones I've tracked down thus far....
Looks like there's two revived versions of The Underdogs: http://www.HOTUD.org Home of the Underdogs My Abandonware: My Abandonware - download games from the 80s and 90s for free My Virtual Apple. Browser based emulator of old Apple games: Virtual Apple ][ -- Version 4.5 Abandonia: Abandonia Game Graveyard: GameGraveyard.net - Resurrecting Old Games & Abandonware since 2010 Macintosh Garden. More Apple stuff: Macintosh Garden - Celebrating macintosh abandonware! Old Games: Old-Games.com: 8000+ Games to download Old School Apps. Has PC downloads and NES/Super NES browser emulator: Old School Apps - download abandonware DOS games and play Nintendo online Good Old Days: The Good Old Days |

I forgot what a major pain in the ass Mac emulation is. IIGS emulation is quite easy, even though not all my favorite games will load.
Mac emulation? Still never have gotten Sheepsaver or Basilisk II to work.

Wow I read that as Sheepshaver, and I thought, who in their right mind wants a game about that?!

Izulde,
I have both sheepshaver (for those reading along, yes thats its real name) and basilisk working on my mountain lion mac. If you have a mac, I might be able to help you out. I say might because it is a real pain in the ass and I am not sure I will remember all the steps. Love the old mac games, feel like they never got the love they deserved. There is an excellent selection of them athttp://macintoshgarden.org/ Here are some of my favorites: Hearts Deluxe This company is still around. How they have not released this yet for the ipad is beyond me. You can play with the presidents! And if you drop the queen on Bob Dole he growls and calls you a liberal. Priceless. Wesleyan Tetris , Also known as Tetris from Hell(works only with vmac): The greatest Tetris game ever made. "A Mac-exclusive bid to create the most vexing Tetris possible. It will lie, cheat, taunt you about your play ("Nice slide!"), give you preposterously unusable pieces, and find a creative "new way to screw you" on every level. While it never saw its intended commercial publication, a leaked development copy became an underground sensation." Maniac Combines pac-man with hangman. There is a randomly moving pellet that you have to capture to begin guessing the word. If you guess the wrong letter then you have to recapture it. Each level is timed. Also has phenomenal music and sound effects. Space Junkie I believe this was released on the PC as well. For my money, the best space invaders clone made. Each level has a different ingenious design. Happyweed! Who could ever forget happyweed? The controls are a bit unforgiving and it runs a bit fast on the emulator but who can pass up getting high and taking out cops? It is basically another version of pacman. |
