Is this the least anticipated release ever on OOTP? I know I'm looking forward to it, but there has been almost zero talk about it.

I don't get that feeling over at the OOTP forums.

I went ahead and bought it. May not get to it over the weekend, but thought I'd support the cause anyway.

No real reason with 13 doing everything that I want it to. No real new features to entice me to it.

Let me know when we get FM style on field presentation and I will be leading the bandwagon.

I do agree with this. If Microleague could do it 20+ years ago, it really should be in the game at this point. I only buy this game every 3 years or so for this reason.

I agree with this too.. it doesn't need accurate modeling of the players.. if it just had simple microleague/earl weaver type graphics it'd be great for people who like to one-pitch play the games. There's nothing like watching the ball get hit over the monster in left... or off of it.

I know there are a lot of people who don't care about it and just want to sim the whole season and GM, but there's a void for baseball (and football) fans of the old Front Page Sports days. Too bad Puresim or OOTP can't just pay for the graphics portion of it all. Could even be canned animation instead of actual physics.

Maybe next year..

I don't think I've every played in-game. Too slow and boring for me. I just sim everything. I think that's part of the reason I've never gotten into FM.

If it really does a good job on the draft and international signings, I'll buy.

Speaking broadly about beta, I'd have to say the game has made some strong improvements on some core function areas over last year. Whether it's a must-buy for folks would probably come after some time with the demo, but I feel like that in contrast to recent years, that this is a much improved version over 13

Ooohhh.. and an update (beta) is out!

Quote:
Hey guys,

initially we had planned to release the 14.4 update along with the start of our All-Star Game Promotion today. However, we had to make some massive changes to our core programming libraries for the Mac version (thanks to Apple), and there are a few issues that still need to be resolved.

So, we have decided to just release the current PC version as a BETA now, and then do the official release along with the Mac & Linux version next week. If you find any bugs & problems with the PC beta, please post a detailed description here in this thread. Chances are good that we'll be able to fix the properly reported issues prior to the official release of the update.

The PC beta version is tested and stable, and it will properly work with your current save games. However, to be on the safe side, we suggest to always back up your saved games prior to installing a new version.

Here is the changelist, compared to update version 14.3:
  • Improved Facegen rendering with 32 bit support
  • Added the option to display the last 5 games log in the player profile screen stats section
  • In historical leagues, the real stats of the current year are displayed additionally in the player profile screen stats section
  • The game log in the player screen now has the order reversed, with most recent games at the top
  • Added "Release all coaches / scouts" and "Fill teams with fictional coaches / scouts" function to league setup
  • Users can now turn multiple retired players into coaches via the mass-select function
  • Added contract option type to player salary team report
  • Added team records to box score header
  • Added "Hit by Pitch" to box scores in the batting summary
  • Improved 40 man roster AI
  • More aggressive free agent signing AI
  • Improved play-by-play commentary
  • Improved in-game simulation AI
  • Improved simulation speed
  • Players on irrevocable waivers may no longer be traded (does not apply to online leagues)
  • Online league file upload via "automator" will no longer save database two times
  • If online league file routine cannot create target folder for league file it will use the import_export folder
  • Fixed issues with the online league quickstart feature
  • Fixed various other bugs

In the PCJBL (Probably the officialish OOTP of FOFC), we have a few openings!

Peanuts and Cracker Jack Baseball League Forum

We are on pace to switch to 14 in the next offseason, but if you are intersted in joining with OOTP14, we can hold your team until then. Current GM's are acting as caretaker managers until that time of a real owner is ready to step up.

I just picked this up and started a league in 1871...First thing I saw in the Latest News was one of my players filmed a commercial...Nice way to kill the immersion...lol

One thing I dont like which im surprised has never been fixed. Illegal lineups with not enough players in the early years. Been seeing this for years..Maybe im doing something wrong

I'd definitely be interested. I'm on V14. I'm also on a Mac. Not sure if they is a problem or not. Can't figure out how to PM on this damn tapatalk app. I'm on vacation, I'll PM you this weekend if there are still teams.

Turn off storylines if you want to get rid of the commercials and stuff. On the second point, if you have ghost players turned on then your minor leagues can run without the right amount of players - if you mean other teams in the league have illegal lineups, I'm not sure - don't think I've had that happen before.

It's the only reason I buy OOTP. I love the in-game aspect that it provides. Now granted, I've recreated the month of April about 100 times more than the month of October, but that's the part that hooks me with OOTP.

The great thing about OOTP is it easily supports all kinds of players.

Well, I decided to start another league in 1977 as Toronto. Now all of a sudden, right after September call-ups one of Boston's minor league teams is hanging up my game with an illegal lineup with only 8 players on the team. I ran fill teams with fictional players: nothing. I ran run comp manager on all teams:nothing

I had to go into GM mode and take over the team and fill it that way..Yes, its a workaround but this problem has been popping up for quite a few editions going back years.....I really should not have to manually fiddle with computer run teams....Sloppy.

Now one team is full and probably going to have an above class of players. Unless I go into every damn minor league team and manually fix things...

I'd definitely turn on minor league ghost players if you have not - it should correct the issue you are seeing (I view it as pretty essential.) It should be available at league creation or in Setup/League Setup/Options (maybe at certain times of the year like off/pre season.)

Another issue I just noticed. Only 9 players were available for the rookie draft in 1978. I moved the draft to March 1st. Could this be the culprit?

If it is importing historical players, there might have only been 9 players who joined the league that year?

Ok possible, but for 1979 I only had ONE player in the draft class. And that player was the one I didnt sign the previous year because Toronto was to cheap to pay his signing bonus.....

1978 draft class had Kirk Gibson, Bob Horner,Lloyd Moseby and a few more well known players. Hardly the stuff of legend but still......

1979 had about 5 I can name off the top of my head, not one total

So one player for all 26 teams? I dont think so.....I'm seriously thinking that moving the draft to before the season threw everything out of wonk...

I've given up on this league...Need to start with Montreal and see what happens

Much improved from 13. I'm quite impressed. The historical facegen project is so amazing, I'm having so much fun managing the Reds '77 squad trying to 3peat.

I just signed Heath Bell on Dec. 30.

On Jan. 1 he retired.

Me too, but I think it was maybe too easy to win this way on prior version. I used to play as a minor league league manager, probably two versions of the game ago, starting at the rookie level and trying to work my way up, with no control over rosters, just trying to win with whoever I had. It was immersive and fun but after about 4 seasons winning close to 70% of my games, I lost interest. I haven't given the new game a shot yet.

This is my favorite version in a long time. Honestly it sounds superficial but the quality of the Facegen in this iteration really is a huge step up

The immersion things like this have been a hit and miss for me. In online leagues, I like it more. But I sort of miss the days when I could fire up a league and just jump in. These days, I almost can't without getting all of the detail stuff right and then it takes forever and I don't feel like playing.

That's just my issue, but I find it sort of funny.
