New home theatre system
Hey everyone,
Hopefully someone more tech savvy can come in and help me with setting up my new home theatre system. I bought a Sony BDVE3100 5.1 Home Theatre system (specs) to go along with my BenQ W1070 projector. The problem is the home theatre system only has two input ports : One optical audio input, and one analog audio input. I'm wondering if there are any switch/splitters that could allow me to have 5.1 sound on various devices (Satellite reciever, PS3, other consoles). Would it be possible to hook everything up with HDMI cables on a switch like this one and then have the HDMI output to the projector and the Optical audio output to the home theatre system? Hopefully someone can help!

Yes, that splitter would work to do what you are hoping, provided all your components behave nicely with it. The splitter would output the video via HDMI to your projector, and the audio would get output via Optical to the receiver.
I'm actually using a similar Monoprice splitter in our play room on an old receiver that does not have HDMI inputs as well.
