Plus the 6 runs allowed and 3 errors but much like Bartman it's always easier to have a scapecoat that doesn't involve the team's shitty pitching and fielding.

Too bad the Indians lost. I was pulling for them.

Go Tigers!

This is maybe the first sports league structure/playoff re-alignment during my life that actually made the regular season and winning divisions more important, which makes me a big fan of the change.

Same. I really appreciate this new model. It preserves winning the division but does give a couple of other good teams that might have been in a stacked division a puncher's chance of also making the playoffs.

I didn't say anything about the pitching or fielding not being bad, but I did respond to the "I can't wait for a botched call" comment and simply responded that it already happened and they did nothing to change the format. Unless you consider it standard to call something that has literally not been called in that situation the entire rest of the season.

Cardinal fans are very angry and defensive.

Yeah they litter the field with trash, throw beer bottles at umpires, and delay the game due to player safety concerns all the time here in St. Louis. But as far as the botched call goes you would be the first Braves fan I have ever met that didn't act like that was the turning point of a 6-3 baseball game.

They also do it all the time in Atlanta... or once...

Its not a turning point, but you would concede a 6-3 game with the bases loaded and 1 out is quite different than a 6-3 game with runners on 2nd and 3rd with 2 outs, especially since Motte then came in and walked McCann. The Braves had 2-3 chances to win or tie the game and didn't get it done.

OTOH, the rules also say that "when it seems apparent...the umpire shall immediately call "Infield Fly."

If it took that long to determine that it was an infield fly...it probably wasn't.

And I'm not sure the point of bringing up the Cards. Lathum made a comment that they can't wait for a botched call in a one and done game. Easy Mac mentioned that there was one last year. Nobody said the Cards didn't deserve to win and there was no need to get so defensive about it.

I didn't bring up the Cards, he did. I said the call didn't effect the game. Wasn't that the implication of him responding to Lathum's post about a call effecting a game with "the infield fly" that it effected the game? Very confused here.

I would point and laugh at the Mets, but they're headed in a much better direction than the Phillies right now.

Wait, no one cares about the Phillies here? OK, I'll go.

Heck, it practically has for the Cards. The last time they had consecutive losing seasons that were not strike-shortened? 1958-1959. So, yeah, not including 1994-1995, every losing season was followed by a winning season. So you could literally be over 50 years old and never have lived when you couldn't saying "well, we had a losing season but next year we'll be above .500".

There's going to be a lot of drunk FOFC'ers soon with that news I think. Surprised to hear it cause didn't Jocketty say two or three days ago he'd be back?

Oh and of course I must congratulate my Cards on winning Game 1

I imagine it would be difficult for Al Qaeda to field a team, what with losing their #2 hitter all the time.

Surprised the Reds fired Baker, the team won 90+ games three out of the last four years.

Feels kind of like when the Chargers fired Schottenheimer after winning 14 games.

It's not like he took a shitty roster and accomplished those things. We didn't do enough with the talent. A small/mid-market like us needs to capitalize on rosters built like this, they don't come around too often... he failed ultimately.

1st time in 77 years every player had a hit and a run in a playoff game, and against a pitcher they struggled vs. this year? Not bad. Interesting the Rays pitched Archer in relief. Are they planning to go Hellickson in game 4, or Moore on short rest?

From what I've read it may have had a lot to do with Baker refusing to make coaching changes and wanting a new contract since he only has one year left.

Personally, I think Baker is excellent at getting players to play hard, but his in game decisions are often baffling. I think he's gotten to a point where he hasn't had the postseason success that convinces guys to keep at it. The team just didn't seem prepared when the pressure hit. I wish him luck, but if they're going to get over the hump I think they have to take the risk of bringing in a new manager. Even Sam LeCure said he thinks the team needs its feathers ruffled.

I believe we hurry Price back out there and let him deal with the hostile crowd. Makes the most sense...hopefully being out of rotation doesn't mess with him too much.

Have you ever watched Marvin Lewis try to manage a clock? Or watched a press conference and viewed his condescending attitude? Dude is freaking tool. And he's not a very good coach. It was time for Baker to go. He'd lost the clubhouse something awful, and he was a player's manager. Inmates were running the asylum. Google "Brandon Philips ctrent", and watch Dusty sit there with a stupid smile on his face while one of his players comes into his office and calls a beat reporter a fat mother****. His reaction? "I ain't in this". Total ineptitude. Sums up the Reds this year when it counted. I think both Lewis and Baker have done good jobs getting teams to respectability. Neither is going to outcoach or manage any of their peers anytime soon.

Games are 4th, 5th, 7th, 8th, 10th. Price will pitch the 5th (tmrw) and then Game 5 on the 10th if necessary... no way he pitches in Game 4 unless there are multiple rainouts. Game 4 options are Moore (on 3 days rest), Hellickson, and I would have thought Archer, but the Rays used him out of the bullpen today.

SAT Game #2@BOS: David Price
SUN TRAVEL DAY
MON Game #3@TBY: Alex Cobb (just got my tix for this one.)
TUE Game #4@TBY: Chris Archer
THU TRAVEL DAY
FRI Game #5@BOS: David Price

I'm making some assumptions on the 2nd travel day...so if that's right I will assume we'll just avoid Hellickson and go back to Price. That's a lot of pressure to put on him, but hey, he knows how to handle this better than anybody so he might just pull of the upset two'fer in Boston.
