I find myself wishing there was more information to sift through for odd coincidences.

Fiesta is another name which has no more democratic names.

Might be interesting to see how many there are.

So experimenting with some unusual names of people 've know, the database is definitely missing a few unless somebody would lie about their name being Solibert.

I think it honestly takes a minimum of 10 to register. I have found a lot at 10, but none below 10 yet.

well if you're going for names wtih only 36 registered voters, any silly name will do there. Books of the Bible that aren't names of people are a good place to start. (Ephesians, Corinthians, etc.)

Smart names: 1000 or more registrants, 65% or higher degree rate

Moira: 65%

Hard to find names to add to this list so far.

Thats the thing though, there are names that are just as infrequent or odd but yet much less "democratic".

Bono = 36 (strong red but not top 1%)
Lego = 13 (strongly blue name)
Jandice = 10 (strongly blue)

For exceptionally "dumb" names, I have Wanda in the lead so far with a 42.6% degree rate.

Almost 30000 Jermaine's, but 87% are blue still. Almost as high as Orenthal.

Why go to church when they can just think out loud?

And also at a time when women (especially African American ones) were much less likely to attend college for reasons that aren't entirely correlated with intelligence.

It's interesting what things like this can tell you about different eras without even trying to, almost like learning through osmosis. I never thought of Wilma and Wanda as African American names, but I guess maybe that had something to do with it. I just think it's odd that there is only a small subset of names that approach the same level of not having a degree.

I think it is exceptionally strange that no name has even come close to Moira yet as far as highest degree percentage goes. I plan to name my daughter Moira if I ever have one.

So today I learned that in the USA:
* men have a tendency to vote Republican, women to vote Democratic (although basically that wasn't a surprise, I guess that's a common trend elsewhere in the world).
* women are more likely to have a gun in their household than men are.

Yeah, I'm from somewhere that's >95% white, and the only white Wilma or Wanda I've ever heard of is Wilma Flintstone.

That was confusing me too. Maybe the super conservative men thought that the survey was a covert way for Obama to try to take their guns, so they lied and said they didn't own any

As the Jew vs Amish battle continues, I managed one red at least - Josiah, 10k+ entrants, 56.8%. Let me keep looking -

It keeps bouncing back and forth. Zechariah? 53.8% red. Jebediah? 51.5% blue (and not at 1000). Jehoshaphat? 79.9% blue (and not enough people either) Back and forth the tug of war goes.

EDIT _ Some More - Elijah, 69.5% blue, Elisha, 64.5% blue, Job, 63.9% blue.

MORE - Solomon, 72.8% blue - ouch.

Why are military ranks so blue? General, for example, is more than 70% blue!

Nearly all of the names you mentioned are at least somewhat popular with the bruthas as well. America is between 1 and 2 percent Jewish last I checked, and probably less than 1% Amish. And it's roughly 10% black, so I'm sure that's pushing the trend. If black people name their kids "Elijah" at even 1/10 the rate of Jews and probably 1/100 the rate of the Amish, we'll have as much or more influence on pushing that name blue. I mean, if I see the name "Elijah" without a distinctively Jewish last name, I'd tend to guess that he is black.

Huh, interesting.

Kristin (me): 50.2% Dem, 49.8% Rep. 265th most common voter name (relatively high, IMO). 50.9% have a gun in the household. 34.8% attended religious services. 61.0% have a college degree.

Changing the spelling to Kristen swings the demographics slightly: same D/R split, 240th most common. 50.6% with the gun, 33.9% religious, 59.4% with the college degree.

Michael (my brother): 48.6% D/51.4% R, 1st most common. 47.2% have guns, 51.7% religious, 56.2% with college degree. Of that, I suspect my brother only falls into the sorta Dem category.

Catherine (my sister): 54.9% D/45.1% R, 88th most common. 53.5% have guns, 33.1% religious, 54.6% with college degree.

Nancy (my mom): 51.1% D/48.9% R, 30th most common. 55.2% with guns, 37.7% religious, 52.7% with college degree.

James (my dad): 41.1% D/52.9% R, 3rd most common. 50.4% with guns, 54.8% religious, 52.5% with college degree.

Sherry (my SIL): 51.3% D/48.7 R, 220th most common. 55.6% with guns, 43.3% religious, 48.4% with college degree.

My brother in law's name is not in the database. If I use his nickname, Bo, he's more rare than I am: 50.4% D/49.6% R, 1552 most common. 45.7% with guns, 47.4% religious, 55.2% with college degree.
