IWS #217 - The World Cup!
In anticipation of the FIFA World Cup, which starts in about a month and a half, we'll be testing Stupid's knowledge when it comes to matters football / soccer.
The Rules The rules are the same as previous FOFC Im With Stupid" Contests, as set forth by the games omnipotent and most truly beloved founding pantheon. The object of this contest is to answer the questions posted, and to provide the most common answer among those submitted. For each question, your score will be equal to the number of people who submitted that response. Your score for the contest will be the product of your individual question scores. Yes, that word "product" here in the States means that they will be multiplied together, not added. Highest score wins. Collaboration of any kind is strictly forbidden. No posting your answers to this board, nor sharing them by e-mail or in any other way with other potential contestants. Just don't be an asshat, and this should end well. All determinations of "matches" and anything else requiring judgment fall to that of the sole administrator of this round of the game. You can reduce the need for doubt and judgment by properly spelling your submissions, being clear, and that sort of thing. My decisions are final and utterly inarguable, no exceptions. Any references that are unclear to you, due to language or geography, should be understood to be authored from the perspective of an English-speaking American. However... Your answers do not necessarily have to be correct in order to score points. If I ask "Exactly how addictive is Football Manager?" and you answer "Mind-numbingly addictive" along with 13 other people, you each regrettably will be awarded 14 points -- even though the correct answer is "I can stop whenever I want to." ******************************************************* The Hall of Heroes
Spoiler
******************************************************* IWS #217 - The World Cup 1. Based on 2010, we can expect roughly 700 million people (or more) to watch the World Cup Final. What percentage of this audience will know the original name of the World Cup Trophy? 2. Thirty-Two teams will take part in the World Cup Finals Tournament that starts in Brazil on 12 June. Of these, how many really have a legitimate shot at winning it all? 3. Besides Brazil, which nation has historically played the most enjoyable and entertaining type of soccer at the World Cup Finals (i.e. the games of the tournament, not just the final match)? 4. Besides Germany, which nation has historically played the most efficient and soul-destroying type of soccer at the World Cup Finals (i.e. the games of the tournament, not just the final match)? 5. The four largest countries by population in the world are China, India, the United States and Indonesia (Brazil is fifth). These four have never won a World Cup, nor even come especially close, despite accounting for over 35% of the world's population. How many years will it be before one of these four countries wins the World Cup? 6. Despite being the birthplace of soccer, England has only won the World Cup once, in 1966, and since then has developed a national fatalism around this fact (yes, I'm editorializing). How many years will it be before England wins the World Cup again? ******************************************************* Please PM your answers to me with "IWS #217" in the title. Submissions are due by 6:00 PM U.S. Eastern Time on Sunday April 27th. |

I've been awful as of late and with my apathy towards soccer this should continue to trend. Good questions and good luck all!
