The Silverdome

Geez... the (formerly Pontiac) Silverdome and 130 adjacent acres just sold for.... $583,000! I guess it was costing the city over $1M per year to maintain, so they decided to ditch it. Hard to believe that it could be purchased for less than a lot of folks pay for private homes.

We should have all chipped in money and bought it. It could have been the FOFCDome! What a shame!

I drive by it every time I go to school. It's in a terrible area (not crime wise per say, just nothing there) and it looks like total hell. I hope they just demolish it.

That's interesting that the company buying the Silverdome plans on Detroit getting an MLS team and having them (plus a women's pro soccer team) play there. MLS has said they want 20 teams, Philadelphia (2010), Portland, and Vancouver (both 2011) will make it 18. I've heard Montreal, St. Louis, Atlanta all mentioned as likely places for further expansion but Detroit hasn't been mentioned for a few years afaik.

It is just hard to believe. It apparently cost $55M to build in the mid-70s. You would think that a developer could turn it into enough that it would have more value than $600K.

I'm surprised the scrap steel and other materials aren't worth more than 600k.

You live in Berkley and you drive by the Silverdome on the way to school? Where do you go?

They should convert it into a swap meet. I can't believe how little value it has. Obviously a major cost liability with upkeep though.

No, but, the top is looking rather ragged.

As soon as that video started, I immediately thought of a zombie apocalypse film setting.

I am surprised the WWE hasnt made a bid on. For all of the nostalgia with WM3 with Hulk/Andre and the WWE channell it seems they could turn this into something profitable.

$500K isn't much for a house in a lot of the country but you also assume you won't be paying $1M per year in upkeep for said house when you buy it, either.
