Wireless network help
I have a Linksys wrtn160 router which is about five years old. I'm only getting about 12-15 mps download speeds on our wireless devices via speed test. I'm running e test in the same room where the router is located. I hooked up my laptop via a wired connection and got nearly 65 mps. I'm paying for Comcast 105 mps service so that seems more realistic.
We also have lots of issues with dropped connections that once I go back and reconnect the connection on the iPad everything is back to normal. Is this a router issue that could be solved with a newer router or something related to Comcast. Would better download speed help with the dropouts.

I had a similar issue with Time Warner, meaning I was just getting massive lag spikes and some speed issues. I called their tech help line and explained what was going on. They were able to help me troubleshoot the connection and isolate the issue which was actually the cable modem. Changed it out, no further issues.

Since my wired speeds are good, do you think that rules out the modem?

It might, the big disparity would certainly be a red flag, but you should still be getting at least the speed you are paying for (+/-10%).
