2048 - A web-based puzzle game time waster
I seem to remember these sort of links getting posted around here every now and then, back in the day before smart phones and ipads. This one's Pretty simple, but can get addictive.
hxxp://gabrielecirulli.github.io/2048/ (Are we still doing hxxp? Is that still a thing? This whole post has made me feel old. Get off my lawn.)

My first run, had no idea what the hell was going on. Got a score of 2772 on the next one, getting a tile up to 256. I'll definitely mess around with this more on my phone.

this is essentially a precursor or ghetto version of the iphone game Threes. So, good find.

Got 2880 on my first go. No idea if that's good or not. Was going to say that it was another version of the game threes. Of which there was a neat infographic for:

On the web site, they say it's "conceptually similar" to Threes. So... they borrowed the idea.

For what's it worth, getting to the end (a 2048 tile) takes you to a score of a little over 20,000 points.

Next try 10936 with a 1024 tile. Made a crucial error and just snowballed from there

Here's a very basic strategy that's helped me win several times:

I used a strategy very similar to what you describe. My best so far is 35256 and was pretty close to getting a 4096 square. I had a 2048, 1024, 512 and 2 128's.

Playing this on the iphone. Finally nailed the 2048 tile. I can now sleep.

I got until 2029...still with tons of success, still with no championship to show for it...but quit when I accidentally traded 3 first round picks for nothing.

I spent wayyy too much time the last few days getting the 4096 tile... I think I better delete the app before I start having designs on the 8192.

My high score is just a shade of 36,000. I didn't know a 4096 tile was possible.

My high is 47016, the biggest pain in the ass is right after you finally put all those smaller tiles into the big one and have a pretty empty board, it always spawns that god damn 2 right in your corner when you have to move it out of there. |

My best tile is 8192. I find I can consistently get 2048 and if I don't mess up get 4096 but I have played "perfectly" several times past 4096 and still lost. I find it a good thing to do while watching TV.

Nice, do you run it serpentine style through the first two rows or is there a better way? |

Yes I serpentine. Having them in descending in order in the first column is important though really a problem is generally recoverable until you're at 2048. The second column is much less important, I find, to have in strict order until I'm at 4096. I feel like there's a different strategy that must be used past that point but I don't know what it is.
