2015 College Baseball thread

The season kicks off today! A couple of games are already underway.

I'm interested in seeing if the lower seams on the ball they are using this year does help the offenses, as they are claiming.

Well I see this thread got a lot of action But its playoff time and all is forgiven lol. The state of South Carolina did not get a regional at all this year. South Carolina did not make the field at all. and only three (I think) made it from the state at all. #2 seeds went to College of Charleston and (yeah!) Coastal Carolina who makes it back to the tourney after missing out last year. Clemson was one of the last teams in I'm guessing and got a #3 seed.

Coastal was the #2 seed in the Big South Conference this season, made it to the final game of the tourney and lost 5-4 to #1 seed Radford. Radford also got a #2 seed. Coastal had a resurgence of talent this season in both pitching and offense this season, especially in pitching. But as the season neared ending, their old bugaboo hit them again-injuries. #1 and #2 starters likely done for the season, and their #1 hitter, already playing injured, hurt himself again in the playoffs and is done.

No way can I see them get out of their regional which is at #1 Texas A&M this year, and includes #3 California and #4 Texas Southern. Did you favorite school make it?

Texas snuck in with a surprise win in the Big 12 tourney. They were decimated by injuries the first half of the season. They look to be peaking at the perfect time.

Iowa gets in for the first time since 1990. They are playing Oregon in Springfield, Mo. Which is about 3 1/2 hours from here. If only my daughter wasnt playing basketball.

Go Hawks!

Thrilled that UCLA has the top seed, but it's going to be a fight

Well regionals are underway, and Coastal Carolina is in play against California. ESPN has great coverage of the games, using a "Red Zone" like whip around to show any game in a scoring situation instead of just one game with highlights from the others like they used to.

There was some speculation that their #1 starting pitcher would be able to play this week, in a relief role, then yesterday he was rumored to start Game #1, which I knew was hot air, He did not start, and Coastal is losing 4-1 to Cal in the 6th. Only 3 hits for them so far. If they could ever come to a regional with a lot of injuries, they might actually advance

Some of those calls in the Iowa game were terrible.

Coastal eliminates #4 seed Texas Southern 4-1 today behind a very solid (and surprising) Starting pitcher. Nearly made it scoreless and pitch a full game but got tired in the 9th where TSU scored its run and could have come all the way back. Big Boost to the bullpen given the quality of teams left in the regional.

UCLA, a lefthanded heavy lineup, was dominated by Maryland's left handed reliever yesterday and dropped a game. They need to win three straight to move onto the super regional

And its all-over for Coastal Caroliina Thought they might have caught a break-Texas A&M lost to California in 14 innings last night and must have been tired, but apparently not. Starting their usual closer they scored three runs in early innings and no-hit Coastal thru 4 innings. They finally scored in the 9th, but were down by 9 at the time. Disappointed they could not muster more offense despite their best hitter being out. But finishing third in the regional was where I predicted they would end up, so not surprised either.

Maybe next season they can limit their injury curse to less important players. Watch for California if they get out of this regional-they looked very good.

Longhorns couldn't keep their momentum from the Big 12 tourney, and ended up going two and BBQ in their regional appearance.

Big win for Maryland who, up until last year, were completely dismal when it comes to baseball.

Iowa lost to Missouri st. In the semis, 5-3. Then beat Oregon again to get to the championship game. Only to lose 3-2 to MSU. Great season by the Hawks.

Shouldnt have been a 3 seed. UCLA scored 5 runs in 3 games?

Though that play at the plate was terrible.

So it is still a straight bracket, correct? Just wondering if Arkansas lucked out by getting Virginia if the bracket stays the same.

That was an epic extra-innings battle between TCU and A&M last night. TCU got a walk off win in the 16th after a throwing error, and they advance to Omaha.

Virginia and Vanderbilt split the first two games of the best of 3 series. They play one more tomorrow to determine this season's CWS champion.

Coastal Carolina will be playing three exhibition games in Cuba in August-I think the first college team to play there since Obama lifted sanctions against Cuba-what a thrill it will be for the players and coaches.
