I want to see the Giants come out in no huddle their next possession.

Wow, that was serious bad luck for the Redskins there.

Like the last 20 years summed up in one play there.

That was a quick whistle; I thought the runner was still moving forward.

dola: though I love that they still snapped the ball with about 10 second left on the play clock. Hasn't Eli learned by now?

I don't think I've ever seen a team with as much bad luck as the Redskins.
I wonder if Jay Gruden wishes he stayed in Cincinnati.

And the Skins return the KO for a TD and STILL wind up with more time on the clock than if the Giants would have just run the ball.

I've read multiple articles this week about how Peyton Manning is done, should retire, etc. This sets up the perfect narrative for Monday about how he may 39 or whatever and can't feel his fingers, but he still has "it!", as he carves up the Lions.

If Pagano ends up out in Indy, is it completely inconceivable that Harbaugh bails on Michigan to return to where he played and also coach Luck again?

Given the apparent turnaround going on in Michigan, I would think this is inconceivable. Harbaugh would forever damage his reputation if he bailed on his alma mater after coming there and rescuing them from one of the longest stretches of mediocrity they have ever seen.

Who knows what any of these coaches will do, but Michigan seems the perfect fit for Harbaugh. He can win national championships there and if he does he'll be a legend. In Indy he might win Super Bowls, but he'll never get the kind of adulation he will in Ann Arbor.

I think the Cowboys offense might be okay with that offensive line.

It's hard to describe what it was like growing up in Ann Arbor during the Bo and Woody "Big Two, Little Eight" days. That late November Saturday was the biggest holiday of the year. As long as he feels he's running the program the right way, Harbaugh is staying here. He's got his fingers everywhere - changing the culture about getting a degree and even tinkering with the uniforms to bring back "maize" rather than Addidas yellow. It wasn't that long ago, during his Stanford run, when he earned a lot of criticism here by expressing his frustration that when he was a student, he was guided into gut classes and many players were cheated out of an education. He isn't afraid to take on Schembechler's legacy. At the time, people said that meant he'd never come back, but I think it meant the opposite. He's someone who sees the major college football coach as a community leader. When we were kids here (he was in my grade in a neighborhood just to the south - we combined teams for a couple of sports), the Lions were terrible and Michigan was always in the national title picture somewhere. The NFL was an interesting diversion, but it was a national game to us. Our NFL heroes were Ken Stabler and Terry Bradshaw and Craig Morton, but there weren't a lot of Michigan players in the NFL, so attention was scattered. I remember Rob Lytle (the best running back of the 1970s here) was a Bronco, so I followed them a bit. Once he decided to come back, my guess from everything I've read and what Michigan football means to those of us who grew up there and went to college there, is that he feels this is where he'll retire if he can. His brother is older and the family wasn't in Ann Arbor during all of his key elementary years, so his Schembechler and Junior Wolverines experience wasn't as extensive. So John might very well view the NFL as the top of the coaching world while Jim doesn't. |

I just don't see a scenario where Harbaugh comes back to the NFL after one year.

I wonder if Chip Kelly has figured out DeMarco Murray isn't a fit for the Eagles offense?

What are they looking at to decide to challenge that? His elbow clearly comes down out of bounds before he gets a second foot down.

The only way the Jags can "stop" Tom Brady is repeated pass interference

The Colts have done the impossible. They've broken Andrew Luck. No run game and poor pass protection tend to do that.

What exactly have the Colts spent their cap space on? They have next to nothing talent wise and Luck is still on his rookie deal.

I'd expect Big Ben to miss (at least) several weeks, leaving on a cart like that.

I grew up on the Ohio side of that. A decade or two of Myer/Harbaugh matchups is really exciting. As much as I love whipping TSUN, a real rivalry requires parity.

in the late games, 49ers play my beloved Cardinals. They always play them tough, won last meeting, but this isn't the same SF team. Will be interesting to see which team shows up.

The Jags want to give Tom Brady another TD, as they go for a fake Punt inside their own 25 and fail

I spoke to soon. Falcons give up 28 points in the first half, with Dallas just gashing them. Now in the second half, it looks like a whole new defense, and the Falcons just keeps moving. 3 point game at the beginning of fourth, and the birds are moving. |

This Cowboys defense looks decidedly more like the 2013 unit than the 2014 unit.

The Falcons take the lead for the first time in the whole game. They were down by 14 three different times in the game. Wow.

It's interesting that when Schembechler took over, the all-time mark between the two schools was 37-22-4 for Michigan. Then the years of ruling the Big Ten, which extended through the rest of the 1900s. But in this century, Michigan is just 3-12, so it's now down to 58-47-6 for the Wolverines. I would hesitate to declare rivalries over because of short-term trends. History is what makes college football. Without that long-term feeling, it's just a minor league system for the NFL. |

So, I told my wife before the game that I thought the Cowboys D would be good enough to hold Atlanta down, and that final score would probably be something like 14-7 Cowboys. I have never guessed the Falcons could score 39 on them.

Our season's first 50-burger. I don't see it as running up the score - you have to keep playing in this league even when it gets out of hand. But I have no idea why Brady played at all in the fourth quarter, let alone that entire 10-minute drive.
This is looking like it might become the year of the injury in the NFL. I can see discussion dominating the next off-season. Why tempt fate? |
