OOTP 16 - Best of My Lifetime

Thinking big for a dynasty distraction (the setup will be the biggest part).

This will be an MLB league (no minor league, no injuries, no trades) made up of players from each team that make up the best players (based on a single season) for that team from the 1970 season through the 2014 season.

While the rosters may not be the best players to play for that team over that time span, they should represent the best seasons for those positions during that time span.

The setup of the season will be the longest. I will post a list of the teams and then let the discussion begin about what players belong for each team.

I'll be updating the teams as I scan through some seasons; and as ideas come to me. Feel free to add your input on players that you feel should be there (seasons).

I'm a Braves fan, so I started working on them for you...

C

Brian McCann 2008 - .301/23/87/.896
Johnny Estrada 2004 - .314/9/76/.828
Javy Lopez 2000 - .287/24/89/.822

1B

Fred McGriff 1994 - .318/34/94/1.012
Andres Galaragga 1998 - .305/44/121/.991
Adam Laroche 2006 - .285/32/90/.915

2B

Marcus Giles 2003 - .316/21/69/.917
Davey Johnson 1973 - .270/43/99/.916
Kelly Johnson 2007 - .276/16/68/.831

SS

Listed Simmons first here, because his defense gives him a 7.0 WAR, which is higher than Blauser's 5.7

Andrelton Simmons 2013 - .248/17/59/.692
Jeff Blauser 1993 - .308/17/70/.886
Edgar Renteria 2007 - .332/12/57/.860
Yunel Escobar 2009 - .299/14/76/.812

3B

Jones is a duh. I listed his MVP (and highest OPS) season, but 2008, 2001, and 2007 are good candidates as well.

Chipper Jones 1999 - .319/45/110/1.074
Darrell Evans 1973 - .281/41/104/.959
Bob Horner 1979 - .314/22/74/.898
Terry Pendleton 1991 - .319/22/86/.880

Huh? How so? I love Justice and hate Drew, but those seasons are not close at all.

Whoa, if you filled a lineup with Carty in left and Sheffield in right it's highly likely you wouldn't get anyone out on a ball to the outfield unless it was hit to center...that's two pretty terrible gloves right there...

Well we'll just put Andruw in the lineup with them and he can tell them to get out of the way if anything is hit to right or left.

You do bring up a good point, though. I didn't consider defense for the outfielders aside from Andruw. Lonnie Smith's WAR in 1989 was a massive 8.8 (the 2nd highest amongst all Braves during this era), so he should be the starting LF over Carty. I edited the post to figure in defense.

OOTP 16 - Best of My Lifetime

I just think the .270 AVG / 40 HR / 120 RBI for Justice exceed JD Drews advantage in BA.

Plus I hate JD drew too 😀

If you only look at those three stats, then sure. But Drew is insanely better at OBP (.436 to .357) and OPS (1.006 to .871).

Yeah once I took a deeper look I think you got it right. I am a Justice homer...I think I still have over 300 baseball cards of him in the basement that I refuse to toss.

Caught up to here with the suggestions. Thanks again!!! As for the question about injuries. I will be running the season with no injuries; but the CPU would probably play a full season player over a half season player (just my guess).
