Miami?
There is a possible opportunity that has come up. It is far from certain at this point but it involves a major life change, if it even happens.
It would involve moving to the Miami area. Curious if anyone has lived in that area (or still does) and what advice you could give me as far as best places to live and what the schools are like. Also, what areas may be best to avoid. In addition, what is the cost of living like in that area? What is the hurricane situation there? I have a lot to weigh: the opportunity (which looks like a major plus); the salary (not sure what that would be like yet); uprooting the family (negative); the weather (a mix because of the hurricanes and the humidity); major change in life (a mix)

Hah, what is the hurricane situation?
(I'll ask my wife, she was there for Hurricane Andrew. She also went to the school A-Rod went to, so her folks probably didn't think too much of the public school system.)

Wow. I just found out today my uncle (who lives near Ocean City) is moving to Florida starting in 2 weeks for a great job opportunity. Good luck with your decision.

Depends on where your job is located. If you work in Miami you might want to move out west or to Broward County. I don't have any kids so schools I know nothing about.
Hurricanes ain't so bad.

Miami itself is pretty expensive but depending on the job location you can commute into there from a reasonably priced area (a fair few people I know do).
Hurricane situation - I presume same as the rest of Florida, rare but scary as heck if shit happens? ... my first year here I had a tropical storm sit on top of my house - but since then there have been no issues really (touch wood). |
