the war between websites and ad-blockers
So I've noticed for a while now certain web sites that can tell if you're using ad-blocking software and make you wait to watch a video, or even require you to turn it off in order to view a video, but I've now noticed a webpage that simply won't load the text content of an article if I have my ad-blocker enabled (RollingStone.com is the site and AdBlockerPlus is the plug-in).
I get the response by content sites to fight back against ad-blocking as it must be cutting into their revenue a bit, but this particular one bugs me in that there's no warning that I can find on the site saying "if you use ad-blockers you won't be able to view our articles". I'll give the programmers credit that they can detect the use of ad-blockers, and I'm curious if those that write these extensions will have the ability to "hide" their presence from web pages (setting off an inevitable back and forth code war)? |
