The Career of Mike Schaplowsky- An NCAA Football dynasty
I decided to rename my thread because I am going to allow myself to take other jobs, with the condition that I can only job search at the end of a contract, or if I'm offered a new contract before my current one expires, I can search then.
For those that would like to catch up on my first season, I would like to link that thread to this thread. If anybody knows how, please let me know. Thanks |

2013 Kansas State Wildcats Roster (Offense Only)
As I am only the offensive coordinator here, I am only concerned about the offensive side of the ball, so let's look at the offense. Quarterbacks #4 Ben Sparks- RS SO, 78 overall. #1 Roger Jackson- FR, 77 overall. #8 Brandon Terrell- RS FR, 73 overall. Not a lot to work with here, as I lost my 2 major QBs from last season. Sparks saw very limited action, and he'll start. As Terrell and Sparks have both already redshirted, I've decided to redshirt Jackson. However, if either Sparks or Terrell get hurt, Jackson will lose his redshirt (if I can do that). Halfbacks #33 E.J. Covington- RS SR, 94 overall. #20 Demetrius Harrison- RS JR, 81 overall. #32 Adam Jean- FR, 77 overall. #27 Will Stanley- RS FR, 74 overall. Covington will be the go to guy all season long, and he's definitely going to be a workhorse. I'm hoping for at least 1,000 yards out of him this season. Harrison will be a great back-up, he'll get some carries to groom him for the starting job next season. Stanley will probably see some mop-up duty, and Jean is redshirting. Fullbacks #37 Shane Charles- SR, 88 overall. #39 David Vogel- RS SR, 82 overall. A good tandem of short yardage power backs here. Both will see short yardage carries, but both are more known for their blocking than anything. Charles will be the starter, but Vogel will play too, and it's possible they'll both see the field at the same time. Wide Receivers #86 Jason Cummings- RS SR, 87 overall. #88 Antoine Daniels- RS SR, 85 overall. #87 Reggie Green- FR, 76 overall. #19 Brad Johnson- RS SR, 75 overall. #81 Eddie Tucker- RS FR, 68 overall. #16 Tim Adams- RS SO, 68 overall. #80 Tim Wright- FR, 67 overall. There is a huge drop-off at the WR spot after Cummings and Daniels, another reason we are going to have to rely more on the run game than we want to. Wright is redshirting, and the hope is that either Green and/or Johnson can give us some stability as a 3rd receiver. Cummings and Daniels could easily get the bulk of the receptions. Tight Ends #18 Brian Montgomery- RS SR, 82 overall. #82 Terrence Curtis- RS SO, 76 overall. #85 Charles Richardson- FR, 74 overall. Montgomery will be a key piece to the offense, but mostly as a blocker, as that's his strong area. Don't be surprised if we see Montgomery and Curtis in at the same time, and it's possible Curtis could knock a few WR down on the depth chart. Richardson is redshirting. I'm going to stop here, because these are the core offensive spots. I realize offensive linemen are important too, but since they really weren't mentioned much in the first year of my dynasty, I'm not sure there is a reason to really mention them much here. 2013 Kansas State Wildcats Schedule Week 1- Bye Week 2- FCS MW Week 3- Bye Week 4- Bye Week 5- Central Michigan Week 6- Idaho Week 7- Oklahoma Week 8- at Oklahoma State Week 9- Iowa State Week 10- Baylor Week 11- TCU Week 12- at Kansas Week 13- West Virginia Week 14- at Texas Tech Week 15- at Texas Wow! 8 home games and 4 road games this season, I can definitely handle that schedule. The non-conference, in typical Bill Snyder fashion, is incredibly easy, but we'll get a test in conference play right off the bat. Again, I am not handling the schedule, but if I take a head coach job, I will. I will admit though, that I don't like the fact our bye weeks are all so early in the season. This sucks, because we play 11 straight weeks. Oh well, I'm sure Coach Snyder knows what he's doing. |

Week 1, 2013
We have the week off, in fact 3 of our first 4 weeks are bye weeks, which I really don't like. This might be the shortest post ever in this thread, as there were only 4 games this week. None of them involved top 10 teams or Big 12 teams, so guess what guys? The Week 1, 2013 recap is.. over. |

Look for me to jump back into this over the weekend. With many other projects and work going on, this dynasty gets pushed to the backburner a little bit as it will be a definite slow moving dynasty. My goal is to get a season played every 2 months.

Game against FCS Midwest Simply put, this game shouldn't be close and should be a good time to test some of our new players. We may even get to the third string in this one. We are heavy, heavy favorites. First Quarter We won the toss and elected to receive. I wanted to see right off the bat what our offense could do. Knowing E.J. Covington would be a lot of the offense this season, we went right to him, and he drove us down field, but they sniffed out a screen play on 3rd and short, and Zach Burns missed a 46 yard FG attempt. They went 3 and out and we again methodically drove down field, getting deep into their territory as the quarter ended. - First Quarter Score: #18 Kansas State- 0, FCS Midwest- 0 Second Quarter We again fell short of getting in the end zone, instead settling for a 28 yard Burns FG. They went 3 and out again, and we had another long, slow drive, as Covington finally punched it in from 1 yard out. The Burns XP gave us a 10-0 lead. Another 3 and out, and more Covington, as this time he dove in from 5 yards out. The Burns XP gave us a 17-0 lead. They got a couple plays off and the quarter ended. Halftime Score: #18 Kansas State- 17, FCS Midwest- 0 Third Quarter They did nothing on their first possession, and we drove but Burns missed his 2nd FG of the game. No matter they threw an interception and we got the ball to Covington who rushed for his 3rd TD of the game, a 20 yard scamper this time. Burns added the XP for a 24-0 lead. Another 3 and out for them, ANOTHER missed FG by Burns, and that's how the quarter ended. Third Quarter Score: #18 Kansas State- 24, FCS Midwest- 0 Fourth Quarter They were able to get a couple first downs in this quarter and Burns missed another FG. I wanted to get to 30 points so I kept driving for the end zone in the last minute, as big FB Shane Charles got as there with a 1 yard TD plunge. Burns made the XP just before the buzzer to give us a 31-0 lead. Final Score: #18 Kansas State- 31, FCS Midwest- 0 Final Stats Passing Player (Comp-Att-Yards-TD-INT) B. Terrell (9-9-107-0-0) B. Sparks (5-6-60-0-0) Rushing Player (Atts-Yards-TD) E. Covington (27-222-3) D. Harrison (11-42) B. Terrell (3-30) B. Sparks (5-4) S. Charles (1-1-1) Receiving Player (Rec-Yards-TD) B. Montgomery (3-42) J. Cummings (3-38) A. Daniels (2-35) R. Green (3-22) D. Harrison (2-20) E. Covington (1-10) Offensive Coordinator Thoughts About what I expected out of this one. We pretty much dominated. Covington was a beast, and the score would have been a lot worse had Burns not missed 4 FG. A good start to the season, but nothing has been settled with the QB competition. Both QBs were very impressive, albeit against weak competition. They'll both play a half in our next game, they'll get their throws in, and Covington will get his share of carries. (Passed 1st Season), 31 PPG this season. 30+ passing TD in one season. (Failed 1st Season), 0 2nd Season. Game vs. Central Michigan We are favored in this one, and there's only 1 stat category they are better than us in, that's passing offense. I'll do what I did last game and give both QBs a half, they'll each get some throws, and of course E.J. Covington will see a bulk of carries on the ground. There really is no excuse to lose this one. First Quarter They won the toss and deferred, giving us first possession. What I thought was going to be a stalled drive just past midfield turned out not to be, as a 4th and 3 decision surprised me when Coach Snyder kept the offense on the field. We converted and used all but 40 seconds of the quarter, eventually giving it to Covington for a 2 yard TD run. The Zach Burns XP made it 7-0, but they were moving the ball well as the quarter ended. First Quarter Score: #10 Kansas State- 7, Central Michigan- 0 Second Quarter They ended up punting and we took over deep in our territory. Thanks to the legs of Covington and QB Ben Sparks, we got the ball deep in their territory. 2 holding penalties and a Sparks fumble later, they had the ball and we failed to score. Fortunately our defense held them to a 3 and out, and Sparks had a huge pass play to get us in the red zone, then took it in the end zone from 8 yards out. The Burns XP gave us a 14-0 lead. They got a first down but punted, and we ran the ball out to end the half. Halftime Score: #10 Kansas State- 14, Central Michigan- 0 Third Quarter On the first play from scrimmage to start the half, we intercepted it giving us the ball in their territory. 2nd string QB Brandon Terrell found Reggie Green for a 33 yard TD pass, the Burns XP giving us a 21-0 lead. After trading possession with no scores, we got another huge interception as they were driving in our red zone, but we had to start from just outside the goalline. We spent the rest of the quarter trying to get some breathing room. Third Quarter Score: #10 Kansas State- 21, Central Michigan- 0 Fourth Quarter We were able to get out of danger, but had to punt it away. After they drove deep in our territory again, we stopped them on a 4th and short, getting the ball back. We drove downfield and Terrell got his name in the book with an 11 yard TD run. The Burns XP made the score 28-0. They ended up punting it back to us and we ran the clock out on a dominating performance. Final Score: #10 Kansas State- 28, Central Michigan- 0 Final Stats Passing B. Sparks (7-9-77-0-0) B. Terrell (4-5-56-1-0) Z. Burns (0-1-0-0-0) I missed Burns attempting a pass I guess. Rushing B. Sparks (9-85-1) E. Covington (18-75-1) D. Harrison (11-70) W. Stanley (1-10) D. Vogel (1-2) S. Charles (1-0) B. Terrell (7- -2-1) Terrell rushed for -2 yards because of a lot of sacks, but did rush for a TD. Receiving B. Montgomery (4-63) R. Green (1-33-1) S. Charles (3-17) E. Covington (1-7) J. Cummings (1-7) A. Daniels (1-6) Offensive Coordinator Thoughts I love that we can get so many people involved in the offense, especially on the ground. I'd like to see more in the air out of our QBs, and I ultimately think Sparks is the better scrambler, only because he didn't get sacked. The 2 QB system will continue until further notice. Unfortunately there is a bit of bad news. E.J. Covington left the game in the third quarter and didn't return. We got the official word today as he suffered a broken wrist and is done for the season. That means Demetrius Harrison will be our starting RB. This will be a blow as Covington is a senior and from what I can tell there is no place to apply for a medical redshirt on this game. We'll move on though, and we'll be alright. Top 10 Scores Oklahoma State- 20, #1 LSU- 13 #2 Georgia- 20, Vanderbilt- 17 #3 Michigan- 45, UConn- 14 #4 Texas- 20, Ole Miss- 10 #5 Oklahoma- 28, #25 Tulsa- 20 #6 Florida State- 20, North Carolina- 16 #18 Ohio State- 34, #7 Michigan State- 17 #9 Clemson- 59, UMass- 0 Oklahoma State beating LSU is shocking, but raises some questions. Did the Tigers just have a bad game or is O-State for real? Other Big 12 Scores West Virginia- 34, Maryland- 3 Texas Tech- 35, Ball State- 21 Nevada- 31, Iowa State- 24 #11 TCU- 38, Kansas- 31 Next Week Another creampuff comes to Manhattan as we'll take on Idaho in our final tune-up before we start conference play. (Passed 1st Season), 29 PPG this season. 30+ passing TD in one season. (Failed 1st Season), 1 2nd Season. Game vs. Idaho (1-3) Another one where we should dominate. Again, they are stronger than us on pass offense, but that's only because our ground game is so impressive. 3rd in the nation right now in rushing offense we are. It'll be interesting to see how Demetrius Harrison will respond to starting. 2 QB system in place again today, so let's get rolling. First Quarter We started with the ball and had a good drive going, but Zach Burns missed ANOTHER FG, this one from 34 yards out. Fortunately, they fumbled on their first play from scrimmage and we recovered. Into their territory, we again couldn't come up with any key plays, but this time Burns did make a FG, a 46 yarder to give us a 3-0 lead. The first quarter ended with us sacking their QB. First Quarter Score: #8 Kansas State- 3, Idaho- 0 Second Quarter We stopped them and got the ball back, and after a slow start, Ben Sparks found Reggie Green for a 23 yard TD pass. The Burns XP made it 10-0. After a 3 and out, we ran the quarter down thanks to the legs of Sparks and Harrison. Unfortunately, the day for Sparks would end early due to back spasms. No worries, Brandon Terrell came in and ran for an 8 yard TD with the Burns XP making it 17-0 in our favor and that's how the half would end. Halftime Score: #8 Kansas State- 17, Idaho- 0 Third Quarter They moved the ball well to start the second half and eventually got it in the end zone cutting the lead to 17-7. It didn't take long for us to get it back, as Terrell scampered in from 20 yards out to get his 2nd TD run of the day, and the Burns XP made it 24-7. Harrison left the game due to injury so we are now down to our 3rd string back, Will Stanley. After a 3 and out, we drove again thanks to the legs of.. guess who.. Terrell. We were nearing their red zone as the quarter ended. Third Quarter Score: #8 Kansas State- 24, Idaho- 7 Fourth Quarter We got it in the red zone to start the quarter but on a 3rd down they brought the house and Terrell threw an interception. We got it back 2 players later with an INT of our own. A few plays later, Terrell found Robert Green on a 32 yard TD pass, with the Burns XP making it 31-7. After a 3 and out we got it back and some more passing by Terrell got us to the 1, where we handed it off to Stanley who took it in. Burns made the XP and we were up 38-7. They got a couple first downs then we got it back. Trying to run out the clock and get it over with, I decided to hand off to backup FB David Vogel. He broke a couple tackles and 57 yards later he was in the end zone. Another Burns XP and we led 45-7. We got the ball back and ran out the clock, but I was more concerned with finding out how bad the injury was to Harrison. Final Score: #8 Kansas State- 45, Idaho- 7 Final Stats Passing B. Terrell (6-8-103-1-1) B. Sparks (2-6-37-1-0) Rushing W. Stanley (10-94-1) D. Harrison (12-74) D. Vogel (2-68-1) B. Terrell (8-65-2) B. Sparks (10-58) Receiving R. Green (3-63-2) B. Montgomery (2-53) J. Cummings (1-21) S. Charles (1-3) B. Johnson (1-0) Offensive Coordinator Thoughts What can I say? We are a rushing team through and through, putting it in the air when we need to. But here's the thing: so far we've done it all against 3 very subpar teams. Now can we do it against the grind of the Big 12. As good as our offensive line seems to be, we still get sacked a lot, and teams bring pressure against us. But, with so many weapons on the ground, we can continue to use those to our advantage and I know we can hit a big pass or two to keep defenses honest. The report on Demetrius Harrison isn't bad, as he'll be able to play next week. Covington, it appears has seen the end of his season and college career though, and that's a shame. Top 10 Scores #1 Georgia- 13, North Texas- 12 #5 Florida State- 28, Duke- 21 #6 Wisconsin- 26, Colorado- 7 North Carolina- 34, #7 Clemson- 31 #9 LSU- 51, Missouri- 13 #10 TCU- 48, SMU- 21 Wow! Georgia had to come from behind to beat North Texas, Florida State had to come from behind for the 2nd straight week, and North Carolina pulls the upset this week after falling short last week. I have a feeling this is going to be a wild, wild season. Other Big 12 Scores Kansas- 40, Louisiana Tech- 7 #19 Oklahoma State- 52, Iowa State- 21 Texas Tech- 38, Baylor- 13 Next Week We start conference play off with a big, big test right off the bat, as Oklahoma comes to town, and they will probably be a top 5 team when next weeks polls are revealed. Looks like the new QBs are going to get welcomed in a hurry. |

Guys, I am putting this project on hold for the foreseeable future, and my reasons are two fold. First, football is down on my list of favorite sports, and I have a hard time getting into playing football games while basketball and baseball season are going on.
Moreso, I am getting ready to enroll back in college to start working on a sports management degree, so my time will be even more limited now than it already was. Unfortunately, something has to get put on the backburner, and I'd much rather focus on my 2 interactive dynasties with FBCB than I would anything else. So, I will get back to this one, have no idea when, but I promise I will. In the meantime, please enjoy my Interactive Coaches Dynasty and Interactive Player Dynasty. Thanks. |

I am bumping this project as I am getting ready to resume it now that spring games are underway. I am making a change though. It is too time consuming to coach every single game and do recruiting, so I'm going to just coach 4 games a season. The games will randomly be decided. With 12 game seasons, I will use a random dice roller to randomly choose 1 of the 3 games in each quadrant (Games 1-3, Games 4-6, Games 7-9, Games 10-12). I will always coach the bowl game, but the rest of the games will be simmed. This will help get this along at a faster pace, and I will be able to do more recruiting and get through a season faster.
It will still be a slow moving dynasty, but I will figure out a way to fit in a 3 game set once a week, and if I can fit more in, so be it. Do I have any interest once this dynasty picks up? |

I will be picking this project up next week, and with the current season 6 weeks and 3 games in (that's what having 3 bye weeks in the first 6 weeks of the season will do for you), here is the remaining schedule, which is nothing more than the conference schedule. I will randomly select 3 of these games to coach, and those games will be bolded. The rest of the games will just be simmed, and for those games, I will report on them by giving the box score, scoring summary, and so on.
Week 7- Oklahoma Week 8- at Oklahoma State Week 9- Iowa State Week 10- Baylor Week 11- TCU Week 12- at Kansas Week 13- West Virginia Week 14- at Texas Tech Week 15- at Texas I will be coaching the home games against Iowa State, TCU, and West Virginia. Kind of bummed, I was hoping to get the Kansas game and get revenge on them for last season. But everything is random, and this is how it came up. I'd like to hear some opinions on if you like this change. If I tried to coach out every game, it would take me forever to get through a decent career. I think this will move things along a little bit better anyways. Are you guys pro or con with this idea? Please share your opinions as I'd like to start this back up next week. |

We've got the top defense in the country right now, and it's going to have to be big to win this one. Code:
Kansas State Scoring Summary After they jumped out to a 12-0 lead, we got on the board thanks to a 1 yard TD pass from Ben Sparks to Will Stanley. Zach Burns kicked the XP to make it 12-7. After they kicked another field goal, we god a 6 yard TD run from Stanley. The 2 point conversion failed and the score stayed 15-13. Game 5- #12 Kansas State (3-1, 0-1) at #9 Oklahoma State (5-0, 2-0) The Cowboys are heavy favorites in this one, but despite everything we still have the top overall and rushing defense. Our pass defense is down to #3. They have the edge in 6 of the 10 statistical categories. That combined with the fact we are playing on the road doesn't bode well for us. Result Code:
Scoring Summary They jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the 1st quarter, but the 2nd quarter was all ours. Ben Sparks hit Brian Montgomery with a 65 yard TD pass and the Zach Burns XP cut the lead to 14-7. Then Sparks found Jason Cummings with a 22 yard TD pass, and Burns added the XP to tie it at 14. Burns added a 23 yard field goal to give us a 17-14 lead going into halftime. Game 6- Iowa State (2-3, 2-1) at #17 Kansas State (3-2, 0-2) We are heavy favorites to get our first conference victory of the season, as we lead every statistical category except for 1. They have a lot better pass offense than us, but we control everything else, although they are a much improved team. This may not be as easy of a game as I think. Code:
Game Summary We started very strong as Ben Sparks found Jason Cummings for a 16 yard TD pass, but Zach Burns missed the XP so we led 6-0. Later in the First Quarter, Sparks found Reggie Green for a 2 yard TD pass. Burns made this XP to give us a 13-0 lead after 1. In the 2nd Quarter, we were held scoreless, but they got 10 points and we led 13-10 at halftime. Nobody scored in the 3rd Quarter, and in the 4th Quarter, Sparks came through again with a 10 yard TD pass to Antoine Daniels. Burns made the XP to make the final score 20-10. Game Stats Passing B. Baylor is tougher than their record shows, and we are still gonna have to play good football. Code:
Game Summary Not a lot to talk about in this one. We got a 43 yard FG from Zach Burns and 44 yard FG from Burns. We had the first and last scores of the game. In between, they scored 40 points. From now on, all Top 10 polls and scores will be based on the Coaches Poll, not the BCS. It seems when games are played, NCAA Football 13 uses the Coaches Poll ranking, even when the BCS ranking is available. So all reports will be using the Coaches Poll. Game 8- #12 TCU (5-2, 3-1) @ Kansas State (4-3, 1-3) We are no longer ranked, and this would be a big upset if we were to win. They are heavy favorites, and while our defense is still in the top 3, our pass offense is not good. They have the edge in 7 of the 11 categories and our heavily favored to win. Code:
Game Summary A true classic in this one, as we opened up the First Quarter with a Demetrius Harrison 5 yard TD run. Zach Burns made the extra point to put us up 7-0. They got a FG in the 1st Quarter and a FG in the 2nd Quarter as we took a 7-6 lead into halftime. In the 3rd Quarter, they came out and got a TD and 2 point conversion to take a 14-7 lead. We would answer with a Burns 49 yard FG to cut the lead to 14-10. They got another TD to make it 21-10 and it looked bleak with only 3 and a half minutes to go. But Ben Sparks did his best John Elway impression, leading us down the field as Harrison again found the end zone from 3 yards out. Sparks scrambled for the 2 point conversion to cut the lead to 21-18. We couldn't recover the onside kick, but our defense, having all 3 timeouts available, did just enough to stop them and hold them to a field goal, as we trailed 24-18 with just seconds left. Sparks came through again, leading a great drive. With 3 seconds left we had time for one more play from their 13 yard line. Sparks found a wide open Brian Montgomery in the back of the end zone, tying the game at 24. It wasn't over yet though, as Burns has missed a few extra points. He didn't miss this one though, drilling it right through as we complete the comeback and shock TCU 25-24!!!!! This game ranked #2 on the ESPN Classic list. Game Stats Passing B. Sparks (14-21-229-1-0) Rushing D. Harrison (15-76-2) B. Sparks (11-27) S. Charles (3-3) Receiving A. Daniels (4-97) R. Green (3-54) J. Cummings (2-42) B. Montgomery (3-29-1) D. Harrison (1-7) T. Curtis (1-0) I wanted to get our other QB and some running backs in the game, like the CPU AI does when I sim games, but Sparks and Harrison were so hot I just couldn't afford to. There is a major difference when I actually coach the games as opposed to simming them, but due to time, I'm going to keep doing it this way, just coaching 1 game out of every 3 game set. Top 10 Scores #1 Wisconsin- 49, Penn State- 23 #2 Louisville- 27, Syracuse- 3 #3 Georgia- 49, #16 South Carolina- 24 #4 Texas- 38, #9 Oklahoma State- 16 Nevada- 24, #5 Michigan- 20 Texas Tech- 14, #6 Oklahoma- 10 #7 Oregon- 54, Washington State- 28 #10 Florida State- 28, N.C. State- 12 A couple upsets in the Big 12 will shake things up a bit. Other Big 12 Scores Kansas- 35, Baylor- 21 Iowa State- 38, #21 West Virginia- 27 Make that the 3rd Big 12 upset this week. Crazy! Big 12 Standings I had to go back and look, but I wanted to start posting weekly standings starting in Week 10. Well, this is Week 11, but it'll work. A look at the current Big 12 standings. Conference record is first, then overall record. 1- Texas (4-1, 7-1) 2- Texas Tech (3-2, 6-2) 3- West Virginia (3-2, 5-3) 4- TCU (3-2, 5-3) 5- Oklahoma (3-2, 6-2) 6- Oklahoma State (3-2, 6-2) 7- Iowa State (3-3, 3-5) 8- Kansas State (2-3, 5-3) 9- Kansas (1-4, 3-5) 10- Baylor (1-5, 3-6) The good news is every Big 12 team has won at least 1 conference game. The bad news is that the conference is so wide open, it's hard telling what will happen. There is a huge log jam in the middle. Next Week We travel to in-state rival Kansas, looking to get revenge for last seasons upset loss. This may not be an easy game either, as they beat Baylor, who if you remember, beat us by 34 last week. A win and we could move all the way up to 2nd place depending on how the teams in front of us do. That, and we would be bowl eligible. A loss, and we're in 9th place. |

Game 9- #25 Kansas State (5-3, 2-3) @ Kansas (3-5, 1-4) On paper, this is a game we should win pretty easily. We're favored to win, but this will be a tough game to get rushing yards in. We are the top rushing defense, they have the 3rd best rushing defense. This game will probably be won in the air, and that favors us. Code:
Game Summary After they kicked a FG to open up the scoring (the only scoring of the 1st Quarter), we scored 17 straight. Demetrius Harrison had a 19 yard run followed by the Zach Burns XP, then Harrison had a 3 yard run with the Burns XP, then Burns kicked a 40 yard FG and we led 17-3 at halftime. We extended that lead as Harrison got his 3rd TD run of the game, this time from 1 yard out. Burns made the XP and we were in complete control, up 24-3. We had a chance to extend that late in the 3rd quarter but they got a pick 6 and XP to get it to 24-10 and steal the momentum. In the 4th quarter, they got 2 TD passes with XP to tie the game at 24, but Ben Sparks did it again, finding Robert Green from 3 yards out with 39 seconds left. Burns made the XP and the defense held as we survived to get an important road victory and become bowl eligible with a 31-24 victory! Game Stats Passing B. Sparks (16-30-211-1-1) Rushing D. Not bad. Game 10- West Virginia (5-4, 3-3) @ #18 Kansas State (6-3, 3-3) We are favored in 8 categories, but I'm a little nervous about this one. West Virginia is a lot better than their record shows, and they have a very good offense. While our defense is still 2nd overall, we've seen what teams can do if we don't show up to play. Take Baylor for example. ESPN is predicting us to win, but not by much. Code:
Game Summary It started out good as we got an 8 yard touchdown pass from Ben Sparks to Antoine Daniels in the first quarter, and Zach Burns made the XP to give us a 7-0 lead. They scored the next 2 touchdowns to take a 14-7 lead into halftime. In the 3rd Quarter, Burns kicked a 46 yard FG to get us within 14-10, then Spark scrambled for a 9 yard TD run to give us a 17-14 lead going into the 3rd quarter. In the 4th quarter, we had a chance to put it away, but a fumble deep in their territory gave them life, and they took advantage, getting the go-ahead touchdown, then adding a field goal late. We are not one of them. Keep in mind, Baylor has 1 conference win. It was against us, they beat us by 34 points. Embarassing. West Virginia needs to win their last 2 and hope Texas loses their last 2, while everybody else still needs to hope for a Texas loss. They play us in their last game, and they play TCU next week. Beating TCU would pretty much clinch the Big 12 title for them, because I don't see a chance in hell where we beat them. Next Week We travel to Texas Tech who has lost a couple in a row and are probably happy to see us on the schedule right now. |

Our pass defense is slightly down right now, and they have a better turnover differential. ESPN has picked us to win, but it's close, very close. Code:
We got the offense going early and often in this one, starting in the 1st Quarter with a Demetrius Harrison 64 yard TD run, with the Zach Burns XP making it 7-0. Ben Sparks then found Jason Cummings with an 18 yard TD pass, and the Burns XP made it 14-0. The 2nd Quarter start with a Sparks 2 yard TD run and the XP making it 42-6. Then our defense got some work in, as we got a 14 yard pick six, and the Burns XP made it 28-0. Will Stanley got involved with a 5 yard TD run and the XP made it 35-0. They ended the half getting on the board with a FG, as we went into halftime leading 35-3. The 3rd Quarter was very uneventless as neither team scored. At this point we had a lot of our second string in. They started the scoring in the 4th Quarter with another FG making it 35-6. Our back-up QB Brandon Terrell came through, finding Brad Johnson with a 26 yard TD pass and the Burns XP made the final score 42-6. I sure wish we'd have saved a few of those points for some of our earlier games! Game Stats Passing B. Sparks (14-27-219-1-2) B. Terrell (3-5-91-1-0) Rushing D. Harrison (10-114-1) B. Texas narrowly escaped and pretty much clinched the Big 12 title, while Oklahoma got back in the New Years Day bowl mix with a comeback win over Oklahoma State. Other Big 12 Scores Iowa State- 38, Indiana- 31 Kansas- 35, West Virginia- 28 It gets even more embarrassing for us. Kansas beats West Virginia, a team that beat us, and we beat Kansas!! Geez. Big 12 Standings 1- Texas (7-1, 10-1) 2- Oklahoma (6-2, 9-2) 3- Oklahoma State (5-3, 8-3) 4- TCU (5-3, 7-4) 5- West Virginia (4-4, 6-5) 6- Kansas State (4-4, 7-4) 7- Iowa State (3-5, 4-7) 8- Texas Tech (3-5, 6-5) 9- Kansas (2-6, 4-7) 10- Baylor (1-7, 3-8) Texas has won a share of the Big 12 Title. If we can somehow pull of the monumental upset of Texas next week, and Oklahoma wins, they'll share the Big 12 Title, but because OU beat Texas, OU would get the BCS bid. We can finish anywhere from 3rd to 8th. Expecting a loss, and knowing that Iowa State and Texas Tech would both have to win to finish 4-5 with us, and that we've already beat them, I'm guessing if we lose, we finish in 6th place. If we can pull that monumental upset, we might be able to move up to 5th. Simply put, we should finish 5th or 6th in the Big 12 this season. |

They own us in every possible category except for 1. Our rushing defense is slightly better, but they force a lot of turnovers and take care of the ball. They are 3rd in the nation in turnover differential. In fact, their lost ranking is pass offense, which is 27th in the nation. Playing at Texas, I'm just hoping we can keep it close and make a respectable showing. Code:
Game Summary We got off to a magnificent start in this one, shutting down the home crowd as we scored twice in the first 5 minutes. First, a Demetrius Harrison 3 yard TD run with the Zach Burns XP, then a 59 yard pick six with the Burns XP, and with 10:22 to go in the 1st Quarter, we led 14-0. No more scoring until the 2nd Quarter, as Burns added a 20 yard chip shot FG to give us a 17-0 lead. They got a TD pass and XP to make it 17-7, and right before halftime Burns added a 25 yard FG and we took a 20-7 lead into the locker room. Now it was up to the defense. Our offense stalled in the 2nd half, and we scored no more points. Like I said, it was up to the defense. It didn't take them long to get going as they got a 47 yard FG to cut the lead to 20-10. Then a TD pass and XP made it 20-17. With 1 minute to go in the 3rd Quarter, they took the lead for good on a 3 yard TD run and XP, going into the 4th Quarter we trailed 24-20. Both defenses took control in the 4th Quarter, as neither team could sustain a major drive. They added a FG midway through the quarter to make the lead 27-20. We did get in the red zone once in the quarter, but an interception took away our chances. We never recovered, and while we won the turnover battle, we lost on the scoreboard. Still, I'm pleased with the effort. Game Stats Passing B. Sparks (14-30-246-0-2) Rushing D. Harrison (11-49-1) B. Sparks (20-45) W. Stanley (12-33) Receiving J. Cummings (7-96) B. Johnson (2-55) A. How about Oklahoma State finishing strong? Other Big 12 Scores Baylor- 35, Iowa State- 6 Texas Tech- 37, Kansas- 14 Final Big 12 Standings #1- Texas (8-1, 11-1) #2- Oklahoma (7-2, 10-2) #3- Oklahoma State (6-3, 9-3) #4- TCU (5-4, 7-5) #5- Kansas State (4-5, 7-5) #6- Texas Tech (4-5, 7-5) #7- West Virginia (4-5, 6-6) #8- Iowa State (3-6, 4-8) #9- Kansas (2-7, 4-8) #10- Baylor (2-7, 4-8) We somehow finished 5th in the Big 12, as we lost to West Virginia and beat Texas Tech, who were the other teams that finished 4-5. I'm not sure what the tiebreaker was, maybe point differential? Either way, I'm happy with a top 5 finish in conference. We'll be going bowling, the question is where? |

It's set, Wisconsin and Texas for the BCS Title. Conference Champions by Tier Tier 1 SEC- Georgia Big 12- Texas Pac 12- Washington Tier 2 Big 10- Wisconsin Big East- Louisville ACC- Miami (FL) Tier 3 WAC- FIU Independents- Navy (Tied with Indiana at 5-7 overall, but won 2 games against other Independent teams.) Mountain West- Fresno State Tier 4 MAC- Toledo Sun Belt- UL Lafayette Conference USA- Southern Miss Big 12 Bowl Assignments Texas Tech- Holiday Bowl vs. USC TCU- Alamo Bowl vs. Stanford Kansas State- Insight Bowl vs. Nebraska West Virginia- Meineke Car Care Bowl vs. Purdue Oklahoma- Rose Bowl vs. Washington Texas- Fiesta Bowl vs. Alabama Oklahoma State- Cotton Bowl vs. Missouri Some big fallout here, as Texas loses their spot in the BCS Championship Game. With the Big 12 being the only team not to have a Championship Game, and with the Big 12 just adding a championship game in real life, I'm going to see if I can't make a Big 12 Championship Game with 10 teams or if I have to go to 12. There may be some major extra changes to the Promotion/Demotion in the offseason. BCS Bowl Games Rose- Oklahoma vs. Washington Sugar- Louisville vs. FIU Orange- Miami vs. Oregon Fiesta- Texas vs. Alabama BCS National Championship- Georgia vs. Wisconsin Georgia takes advantage of the fact that the SEC has a Championship game, even though they barely won, to take Texas' spot in the BCS National Championship. How about FIU? I'm not really sure why they got a BCS bid, the only BCS team they beat was Texas A&M who was 4-8 on the season. They've already played Louisville once and lost 30-7. |

I'm thinking I'm going to scrap the promotion/demotion part of this dynasty, as it gets too tough to figure out who to promote and who to demote the way I'm doing it. I'm still going to try to find out about having a Big 12 Championship game. If I can do it with 10 teams, then I'll probably just change things back to the way they were to begin with. If I have to have 12 teams to play a conference championship, then I'll have to figure out which 2 teams to add, but either way, the Big 12 will have a conference championship in this dynasty next season. It's only right.

Insight Bowl- Kansas State (7-5) vs. #22 Nebraska (8-4) This isn't going to be easy, as Nebraska has the advantage in all but 3 categories. We have the better defense per game numbers, they are better in everything else. Despite all that, ESPN is picking us to win this game. It'll be the #7 rush offense (them) vs. the #1 rush defense (us). This could be fun. Code:
Not much to talk about, we got slaughtered, big time. We won the 1st Quarter, everything after that was bad, very bad. Since I simmed the game to get to the next season, I don't have a scoring summary, but all I can say is I'm glad I'm not the defensive coordinator right now. Game Stats Passing B. Sparks (13-29-253-1-1) B. Terrell (1-2-5-0-0) Rushing D. Harrison (9-50-1) B. Sparks (14-49) W. Stanley (10-49) D. Vogel (1-2) B. Terrell (1- -1) Receiving A. Daniels (6-110) B. Montgomery (3-70) J. I can give you a look at the Big 12 and BCS Scores though. BCS Scores Washington- 27, Oklahoma- 7 (Rose Bowl) Louisville- 27, FIU- 21 (Sugar Bowl) Oregon- 23, Miami (FL)- 14 (Orange Bowl) Texas- 24, Alabama- 21 (OT) (Fiesta Bowl) Wisconsin- 35, Georgia- 24 (BCS National Championship) Other Big 12 Scores Texas Tech- 29, USC- 22 (Holiday Bowl) TCU- 34, Stanford- 31 (OT) (Alamo Bowl) West Virginia- 43, Purdue- 21 (Meineke Car Care Bowl) Oklahoma State- 38, Missouri- 28 (Cotton Bowl) Nice, we are the only Big 12 school that lost our bowl game. That doesn't bode well for next season. That concludes the 2013 season, next the offseason recap. |

2013 Offseason
National Awards Just 1 national award for our Wildcats, as WR R. Green was named to the All-NCAA Freshman Team. Conference Awards None on the offensive side, but RS SR DT A. Doty was named to the Big 12 2nd Team. Departing Players I'm not going to worry about the defensive side of the ball since I'm coming back for my 3rd season as offensive coordinator, but here's who we lose offensively: HB E.J. Covington (94 rating)- graduation FB Shane Charles (88)- graduation FB David Vogel (83)- graduation WR Antoine Daniels (88)- graduation WR Jason Cummings (87)- graduation WR Brad Johnson (75)- graduation TE Brian Montgomery (82)- graduation LT Brad Leach (77)- graduation LG Aaron Harris (81)- graduation RG Paul Walker (83)- graduation RT Keith Smith (89)- graduation We are losing some really, really key players, especially on the offensive line. All are seniors and graduating. My starting center, David Gray, is a junior and was going to go pro, but I convinced him to stay by promising him he wouldn't regret getting his college degree. Draft Results We had 4 players drafted this season, 2 on each side of the ball. SS Jason Norton (3rd round) RT Keith Smith (5th round) ROLB Greg Thompson (6th round) FB Shane Charles (7th round) Still need more draftees, we need to get to the point where we are getting 8-10 seniors drafted every season. Recruiting Class I delegated all the recruiting duties to the computer AI, but from now on, I'll be doing it myself. This will be my tradeoff from simming most of the games every season. As for this season, we brought in the 25th ranked recruiting class in the nation. Another reason I want to recruit myself, because I'm a pretty good recruiter on this game and I usually bring in top 10 classes with ease. Here's a look at our recruits by star ranking. 5 stars- none 4 stars- 4 3 stars- 13 2 stars- 4 1 star- 1 Best believe that if any of those 1 and 2 and maybe even 3 star recruits are on the offensive side of the ball, they are going elsewhere. I'll cut em quickly. Conference Realignment The promotion/relegation plan of this dynasty is over. I'm scrapping it because #1, sometimes it's tough to figure out who to promote and demote, and #2, my goal is to eventually get a head coaching job at a low conference school and work my way up the ladder to get a BCS head coaching job. Can't very well do that with teams moving conferences every season. So I'm putting all the schools back to where they were originally. Also, I want the Big 12 to have a title game, so I'm removing Notre Dame and BYU from the Independents and putting them in the Big 12. I'll split it up with Big 12 North and Big 12 South. The Big 12 North will consist of: BYU Iowa Kansas Kansas State Notre Dame West Virginia Big 12 South will be: Baylor Oklahoma Oklahoma State TCU Texas Texas Tech If anybody can think of some teams to add besides BYU and Notre Dame, let me know. I just figured it'd make more sense to pull from the Independents. The 2014 season will get away probably next week, as I'm going to be pretty busy the rest of the week. Hope everyone is enjoying. |

This dynasty, unfortunately, is also getting squashed. I have another project that I'm much more interested in at the moment.
