2016 MLB Draft
Philadelphia liked what they saw with Tom O'Neill and made the right fielder their #1 overall pick. The next FOFC'er taken was Dean Hoo at #5 to Milwaukee. Two players will be teammates with the Detroit Tigers as second baseman Jerry Miller was taken with the 8th pick and pitcher Deacon Palmer went at #38. |

Update #1 - August 1st, 2016
STANDINGS
The White Sox liked enough of what they saw in Ginsberg to move him straight to the big league club. David is currently on the bench .304 in 23 at bats when given a chance to get to the plate. Gunn is currently playing for the Astros single-A affiliate team, the Lancaster JetHawks. In 23.2 innings of work, Gunn has posted a 2.28 ERA and 3 saves. The 5th overall pick in the draft, Dean Hoo, is playing for the Brevard County Manatees, the single-A affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers. In 80 at-bats, Dean is hitting .275 with 3 home runs. Patrick Hutt, based on what the scouts are saying, could be the star position player of this class. Hutt finds himself playing for the big league club already in Miami and coming off the bench currently. While his average is only at .227, he has hit 3 home runs for the Marlins early in his career. Yet another player has found his way to the big league club already. Jerry Miller is coming off the bench for the Tigers but hasn't found too much success yet as he is hitting .185 in 27 at-bats. Could we see a 20 year old win a Cy Young? The buzz around the league is Rob Nielsen could be a Cy Young winner before he turns 20. As the 5th pitcher in the Diamondbacks rotation, Rob has posted a 4-1 record with a 1.96 ERA in 6 starts. We make it to the #1 overall pick in the draft. The Phillies feel no need to rush bringing O'Neill up to the big league team and have him playing for their single-A team, the Clearwater Threshers. O'Neill has shown plenty of flashes of a future superstar with 11 home runs in 103 at-bats. Cannon is currently playing for the single-A Tampa Yankees and has had a lot of success already. In 96 at-bats, Pace has hit .333 with 8 home runs. Palmer finds himself currently playing for the single-A Lakeland Flying Tigers. In 9 starts, Deacon has a 6-1 record with a 2.17 ERA. The Tigers are impressed by the young Palmer's play so far and could be moving him to AA in no time. Yet another FOFC'er has found himself playing in the majors, but Mike Schaplowsky is the only position player in the starting lineup. Mike is starting in center field and batting 8th for the Twins. His stats don't look great, a .200 average in 140 at-bats with no home runs, but the Twins have confidence in the 18 year old. |

Update #2 - September 1st, 2016
THE PLAYERS Ginsberg is still coming off the bench for the White Sox as we finish up August. His average dipped slightly, from .304 to .286 but he hit his first major league home run. Gunn continued the strong play in August for the single-A Jethawks keeping his ERA down at 2.43. Dean's average rose a couple points in August, from .275 to .279 and he hit 5 home runs in the month. Patrick is one of the Marlins first options off of the bench but has been struggling a bit adjusting to big league pitching as he is currently batting .190 in 116 at bats. Jerry's struggles continue as he is now hitting .171 off the bench for the Tigers. Bad news for Nielsen as he goes down with an injury before getting a start in August and will miss the rest of the season. The #1 is showing his potential as Tom is destroying single-A pitching as he has hit 23 home runs, 7 doubles and 7 triples in 42 games for the Clearwater Threshers. Cannon dropped off quite a bit from his .333 average, 8 home run start and dropped to a .285 average and only hit 2 home runs in August. Deacon has continued the solid play in single-A and has posted a 8-3 record with a 2.72 ERA. As expected for any 18 year old starting in the major leagues, Schaplowsky has struggled a bit as he is hitting .197 in 233 at bats but hit his first big league home run. |

Not bad for the big league Astros. Wait until I get up there, though. We'll be raising World Series trophies in no time.
