Dungeons and Dragons inducted into Toy Hall of Fame
Toy Hall of Fame | Dungeons & Dragons
You've come along way from being seen as a "tool of the devil" D&D!

I'm glad the stigma has kind of eroded around D&D.
I've been really enjoying watching Tabletop Adventures on Youtube, which is a great example of what the game is capable of being.. Dungeons and Dragons with a good number of friends and a strong DM is one of the most fun games imaginable. Fascinating enough to watch.

I don't thinks the stigma has ended. It may be reduced, but I think we all collectively said "I don't give a fuck!"

Me too. Having all my friends together for a few hours during high school/college means so much to me now looking back. This was back before smart phones and tablets (yes I'm old), so we really did interact/get to know each other better through D&D and all the other role playing games we tried. The Yogscast have a weekly D&D game on Livestream then YouTube every week. I think they are genuinely surprised how much interest it has from new players and old.

Regardless of how D&D has aged or how popular it may be now, from a pure historical perspective, it absolutely belongs in the toy HOF (I didn't know there was such a thing).
Groundbreaking, immensely popular, gave birth and life to the geek culture as a legit thing. I would argue D&D laid the early foundation for the modern video game and e-sport phenomenon, TV shows like "Big Bang Theory," and even Fantasy Football. D&D affirmed a whole generation of men that it was OK and fun to gather other guys in your basement and fantasize ... (OK, THAT sounds bad). So, maybe I'm overstating the point, but I just felt like I needed to go on some kind of senseless rant that had NOTHING to do with politics, and this thread just fit the bill. Thank you.

Well now that Jack Chick is dead it's the right time for this, no one is left to stop Dungeons and Dragons from taking over the country for Satan. I do hope that even though D&D is inducted the Toy Hall of Fame banned THAC0 from being enshrined alongside it. |

funny thing about that stigma ... the first organized play group I ever saw, and by that I mean open-door policy with a meeting place aside from somebody's house was sponsored by a church/youth ministry.
That was about, oh, 1982 or so. D&D and Panzer Leader were the two most played games.
