I'm predicting between the foreign stuff and the older stuff, that this may be one of the least popular brackets yet, so we'll see how this plays out.

Yea these foreign films may be great. But this is largely an American board, and honestly, those are films with no chance to win, depriving us of interesting first round matchups and keeping films like True Romance out of the competition.

Yeah. Besides being the arbitrary judge, I wish there was someway to distinguish foreign films that got a good push in North America between those that didn't. To me, City of God is one of my favourite movies and I felt deserved to be in the tournament. Same goes with Pan's Labyrinth. Both those movies received decent support, although not great. Life is Beautiful and Das Boot are coming up in the next two rounds so we'll see how they do, although I think in those cases it might be the difficult matchups as opposed to the lack of exposure that could do them in. I thought the The Lives of Others was another great movie but it had almost no support. I'm also surprised that the love for Kurosawa has been mixed. I personally haven't seen his movies but I thought there was a decent chunk of the population that had.

I see a lot more modern films I've never heard of too. I guess it's typical that more IMDBers vote for their favorites right after they see them and then don't change the votes again once the newness wears off.

I think Seven Samurai will do well, even though it is foreign. And you must see it. Fantastic movie.

I know that they will lose to their more modern competition but I voted for both Strangers on a Train and Double Indemnity. Two great, great classic movies. I highly recommend each of them to anyone looking to broaden horizons into older cinema.

What's the deal with IMDb ranking Barry Lyndon so high? It's the one Kubrick film I never got.

I've seen A Separation. It's a really good movie directed by Asghar Farhadi, who directed this year's Foreign Language nominee The Salesman and might not be able to attend the ceremony depending on the travel ban.

I love Strangers on a Train, but Inception is a modern classic so this is a case where I like the newer film more.

No Country is also a modern classic, but it's up against one of the best movies ever made, and by far the best film noir.

No Country for Old Men is a movie I just could not get into. I have tried several times to watch it, but I just cant.

So very sad - and so very unsurprised - that Double Indemnity is going to get waxed.
