Happy Confederate Surrender Day!

Today we celebrate the day the treasonous South and it's abhorrent cause (slavery) were finally put down for good. God Bless America.

Not quite. The 13th amendment didn't get passed by the House until January 31, 1865 and wasn't actually ratified until December 6 of that year and adopted on December 18.

Thanks for the reminder. I need to put up my portrait of General Sherman today.

Though it's a shame that the south remains an albatross around our necks. Maybe we should have just let them go?

As a proud descendant of Gen. U.S. Grant, this is the best thread ever.

Um...this seems even more wrong now that I look into it some more. June 2 was the last confederate army surrender. November 6 was the last overall surrender. This was one part of things and slavery didn't end for several months afterwards. The war didn't officially end until 8/20/66.

So, 'happy first surrender that signaled the beginning of the end day' seems more appropriate.

Some in the South still don't think they actually surrendered, too. So, yea, this one is muddled.

Yeah, this is more the day the avalanche started than the actual end.

There's always someone happy about bad outcomes.
That's just the nature of things. {shrug}

Definitely a bad outcome that it took so long to defeat those worthless, treasonous scumbags.

I've read this a couple times and I can't figure out what it says or where the spelling mistake occurred.

And, that'll change. New Hampshire is projected to have the climate of North Carolina in 30-40 years.

(Canada might want to start thinking about their own wall...)

People move to the south? Seems like everyone moves west, either California, the PNW, or the mountain states

This has basically been the case since right after WWII. Not sure when the exodus to the south occurred (although I'm sure some people moved south as well. Kist never heard it compared to the massive population shift to the west coast.

Americans Are Moving South, West Again

Quote:
If the population shift continues, Texas could gain three new seats in the U.S. House, Florida two, and Arizona, Colorado, North Carolina and Oregon one apiece after the next census

Nine states — Alabama, Illinois, Michigan, Minnesota, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and West Virginia — could meanwhile lose a seat apiece.

If a wall ever gets built in Canada it's far more likely to be along east/west lines than north/south.

Don't look at me. I grew up in the south and still live there. I stand by what I said about the traitorous, racist pieces of shit who formed the Confederacy and still support it today.
