I'm With Stupid #244 - RESULTS

Came in with 21 entries, somewhat disappointing after the strong first day showing but solid nonetheless. Without further ado:

1. Stupid has procrastinated way too long, and now can't get a dinner reservation on Valentine's Day. His brilliant solution is to cook a meal at home (how romantic). What does Stupid make for the missus?

Spaghetti 12
Steak 9

I vastly overestimated Stupid's cooking prowess. I combined "pasta" and "spaghetti" into one result because I am the arbiter and I am allowed to do that. In real life, I cooked the missus salmon with a risotto and asparagus.

2. Knowing that Mrs. Stupid is a huge Beatles fan, he decides to have a Beatles song playing when she comes home from work. Also knowing that she hates "All You Need is Love," that song is out. Which Beatles song does he choose that ISN'T "All You Need Is Love?"

I Want to Hold Your Hand 6
Love Me Do 5
She Loves You 3
Something 3
Hey Jude 2
Here Comes the Sun 1
When I'm 64 1

One of my favorite categories, this one was largely all over the map. In the end, I was surprised that it wasn't a two-horse race between Love Me Do and She Loves You, just because of the word Love in the title. Bonus points for Here Comes the Sun, my own personal favorite Beatles tune.

3. Like "All You Need Is Love," Mrs. Stupid has an aversion to roses. What non-rose flowers does Stupid have waiting for her?

Tulips 10
Lilies 4
Daisies 4
Carnations 3

Tulips won the day fairly handily here; strangely enough, Tulips were languishing in last place until a run of 7 straight Tulips entries starting with our 11th entrant.

4. Stupid isn't stu- OK, well he is. But he knows about his cooking skill. He already bought her chocolates, but to hedge his bets in case dinner doesn't turn out well, he decides to pre-purchase dessert on his way home. What dessert does he buy?

Cheesecake 8
Ice Cream 5
Chocolate Cake 4
Chocolate Covered Strawberries 2
Tiramisu 1
Cannoli 1

Another category I expected a little more parity, Cheesecake was strong from the get-go and withstood a strong push from Ice Cream at the very end.

5. Name the most beloved public figure we unfortunately lost in 2016.

Prince 14
David Bowie 3
Muhammad Ali 3
Johan Cruijff 1

This was intended to be a two-horse race between Prince and Bowie, I totally forgot about Muhammad Ali. I also underestimated the Prince love. Definite eliminator.

You'll never guess who put in Cruijff

6. Name the most beloved public figure we DIDN'T lose in 2016.

Barrack Obama 8
Betty White 8
Paul McCartney 1
Oprah 1
Pope Francis 1
Harrison Ford 1
Billy Joel 1

Barry was 6 of the first 8 entries, and I thought I had unwittingly put a massive eliminator in; he fell off rapidly after that and Betty White came right back to tie him up. She would have won, too, if not for the very last entry of the contest.

The scores:

Needs a Lot of Help From His Friends:

Code:
Warhammer 864

These guys may very well be the walrus:

Code:
MIJB#19 1920 nilodor 6480 ntndeacon 7560

Hey Jude, you didn't do so well:

Code:
Butter 10080 albionmoonlight 17280 CarterNMA 17280 Young Drachma 32256 korme 32256 Umbrella 36288 JeeberD 48384

She Loves You, but not like that:

Code:
Pyser 60480 digamma 86400 Critch 86400 Ben E Lou 96768

There's Something about the way you didn't quite win the contest:

Code:
Easy Mac 129024 QuikSand 201600 B & B 215040 vex 258048

She Wants to Hold Your Hand (our co-winners):

Code:
EagleFan 336000 CU Tiger 336000

In the end, two identical, imperfect entries take the day. I am ok with this result. EagleFan and CU Tiger, it is up to you two to moderate IWS #245 - congratulations on the win!

Tulips over daisies killed me. Best result ever for me though, so I'll take it.

This is the first one in a while I didn't have an answer with a "1" score. Still pretty mediocre for me though.

If I'd gone for Prince instead of Bowie for most beloved public figure I would have won. My mistake was going for the correct answer instead of what stupid would go for.

Realizing I wasn't likely to win this IWS anyway, I switched from flip-flopping between Prince and Bowie and went with a patriotic answer.
