Gettysburg trip - advice wanted
I've got Mrs. Bobble taking me to Gettysburg for a weekend. Any advice on what we should do and see?

You could visit the site where Andrew Jackson bravely led his troops to victory and gave the other side a stern talking to.

Worked there for 17 years, have done precious little as a tourist.
But things that come to mind are ghost tours, a segway tour of parts of the battlefield, Eisenhower Farm, the diorama. And driving/walking the battle field to see Devil's Den, the monuments, etc. I think there are horse trail rides too. There are some shops downtown, but nothing spectacular I don't think. There's outlet shopping and the Gateway Theater (Civil War-themed movies, I guess). There's the Land of Little Horses! I don't know how exciting any of that is; if you can't make a full weekend out of Gettysburg proper you could also go up to Hershey (HersheyPark) or Lancaster (Amish stuff, more shopping). They're both maybe an hour drive.

Knew I could count on FOFC. I'm gonna be saying this all weekend: If it's "civil", is it really a "war"? Last edited by Bobble : 05-03-2017 at 09:08 AM. |

Take time to get into the battle. The entire city is basically the battlefield. We did a self guided audio tour which took the better part of a day. Stopping to get out and around those famous places where all this took place is a real reflective moment.
Cuervo is on about Hershey and Lancaster. I really liked the whole area, but after the battlefield there's really not much else besides shopping. The area itself is awesome though.

Rent bikes and ride around for a few hours. It is moderately hilly, but is a nice way to see the sights.
Gettysburg is also a college town, so you probably have all the quirky off-the-wall stuff that comes with that.
