Red White And Blue Racing - Electric Version

This will be a play through of the 2016 NASCAR season using the Red White and Blue racing board game. I programmed an application that helps me run through races pretty quickly (more in another thread).

Thought while I'm testing and debugging, I'd share the stories from the game.
One of my favorite things about the game is the narrative that can emerge from each race.

I'll be using the scoring system from 2010 because I don't want to do a chase and haven't been won over by stages yet.

On a simulator note, no real big issues so far with it - there have been a couple of events that didn't work properly and I re-enabled a "feud threshold" again because I've always felt feuds are a bit over-done in the board game.

There will now be a die roll to see if feud events are ignored.

Wondering if anyone is reading along? If not, might just complete this project offline.

I really enjoy RW&B. I ran through a season a couple of years ago, with proper Daytona qualifying, all star race, chase, etc. I ended up using some house rules for TV and feuds.

I'd be interested in hearing about what you used for house rules?

I'm trying to remember. If I recall, anytime someone got crashed or spun out by someone else, they automatically started the next race with a feud. Also, previous week's winner, and last year's winner of the same race got the TV rolls. But like I said, that was a couple of years ago, and I don't exactly remember.

I guess only here, I programmed it myself...just an app that automates all the die rolls and events.

I did it as a learning experience - showed it to the board game designer and he didn't seem too interested, so I think my next step will be to create my own rules.

There are definitely some aspects of the board game I'm not in love with, so I've been prototyping some different ways of doing it.

I'm not sure what year cards you have, but when I ran my season, Kevin Harvick was a beast. I'm surprised to see both him and Jimmie Johnson struggling so much.

I'm using the 2016 car set. Jimmie is 4 GP 2 BP with all the qualities except Star and Smart. I'm Jimmie fan so I tend to watch his rolls closely - he's missed a LOT of "gimme" type passes....definitely under-performing the cards potential.

This driver set has a "SUPER Jimmie" option for the last 10 races - where he's 5 GP, all the qualities to simulate his late season performance...I'm on the fence about using it in this replay - but if he continues to struggle, I might just to see what kind of difference it makes.

Harvick's card is even stronger - 5 GP and all qualities except Smart. His issue has been the feud with Allmendinger. I implemented a dice roll where it has to exceed 50 on a D100 roll before proceeding with a feud result - so hopefully that allows a bit more fairness. I houserule feuds by setting them to a duration of 4 upfront, then "cool down" one each race. But it can be increased again if a car is knocked out from a top 10 position.

***OOC NOTE: This is too freaking weird - last race, these two were involved in a RARE event that had their pit crews get into a fight
I don't know what the odds are exactly of this event being rolled - but for these two drivers to be positioned in their pools to make this
happen would be "freaky weird"...There was exactly one position out of 54 for Kahne to be in...

Hard to say - developer didn't seem too keen.

I think if I was going to do it, I'd change a few things about the race engine - and likely enough that it would be a "new game" that I'd feel comfortable releasing as original work...

Firstly, this is awesome, well done!

I also agree with the above - if the developer isn't keen, use his game as a scaffold to build your own better version.

Thank you very, very much! I have to give you a lot of the credit - reading your dynasty really inspired me to keep going. I know what you're doing is much more complex - and looks better! But I'm proud of having something that's "mostly" working!

And thanks for reinforcing that - I think that's the approach I'll take....this dynasty hasn't had a whole bunch of comments - but from the view count, it looks like there's at least some interest. And some of the stuff I learned implementing this will come in very, very handy!

In non-race related news - I did discover my first bug in a while. An incorrectly placed "return" statement led to some special events not triggering. Didn't have a huge impact on the race - just an "empty" turn - but glad to have found it!

EDIT: Figured it out - the url generated by dropbox changed for some reason. Copying an old one worked.
