Like stuff from The Guess Who and Weezer. Tough out.

Several solid acts in this group.

Oof, The Cure versus T. Rex is rough, although that may be more of a personal problem.

I love me some Sonic Youth, but come on.

Would you rather listen to the Red Hot Chili Peppers or Jackson Browne is probably the first thing they'll ask me when I arrive in hell.

This group is loaded with my favourite bands from my teens - Led Zep, Tool, RHCP, Weezer. Thankfully, not against each other, making this a super easy poll for me.

A few tough ones here. I like Depeche Mode, but no way I can vote against Tool. And Foo Fighters vs. Roxy Music - man, that's a tough one. Two very different musical styles. I'm a Foo fan, but the body of work for Roxy Music as well as the way they helped evolve the form in the early '70's (along with Bowie) and then capped off with the perfect record for putting your significant other in the mood ("Avalon") is too much to overcome. And while I appreciate Sonic Youth a great deal, Led Zeppelin is the greatest hard rock band and possibly the greatest rock band period.

I agree, I had to take a pause to think about a couple and this is still round 1. This is going to get tough as it goes on.

I love Sonic Youth... Teenage Riot is one of my favorite songs of all time.

But c'mon it's Led Zeppelin.

This does not belong here at all, but sweet lord I just wanted to watch music videos on youtube, and I guess I spent to long on there, or somehow tempted fate, or drew the wrath of some sort of malevolent cyber being...

So yeah, the mime dancers are weird. But the playing is top-notch. That '70's jazz-rock fusion stuff doesn't do it for a lot of folks I'm sure, but these guys are quite talented.

Yes, the music was very good. The whole mime thing was trippy. Maybe that was what they are going for. "Drop some acid and come to our show".

No band gives me douche chills like Depeche Mode does, their appeal is baffling to me.

While I could understand Tool not rolling over the competition on this board, I just don't get DM even gaining enough popularity to be a recognizable name.

The fact 5 people voted for Sonic Youth over Zeppelin is completely shocking. Maybe they were all pity votes.

Feel free to borrow a phrase I used about Green Day a few months back, as it seems to fit the situation you're describing: "the most inexplicably popular band of my lifetime"

Their music isn't exactly something to tap your feet to, but Tool are/were the best at what they do/did. Obviously not for everyone, especially the FOFC demographic.

Depeche Mode is one of my favorite bands. Not all of their songs have held up too well, IMO, but overall, I think they are underrated by this crowd.

That said, you can make the argument that they're not really a classic rock band but more the new wavy synth pop type that rose up in the 80s. Like many entries in this contest, they're not entirely a spot on match for "rock act."

I like Tool, too, although this vote wasn't hard for me.

Only Cure song I really liked growing up was "Burn" from the Crow soundtrack. They were a little before my time though.

Yeah, it still holds up! Still listen to that whole soundtrack from time to time.

Most of the rest of The Cure, I've gotten massively sick of.

Led Zeppelin - can't stand them. Probably my most disliked rock band (Dave Matthews is 1a on the list). Don't care for The Who, The Rolling Stones, or The Beattles all that much, but at least each of those groups has a song or two that I like. LZ....nothing.

Not the "classic rock" era. I tend to listen to more 80's type stuff, Van Halen, Def Leppard, INXS.
