Gencon 2017

After my thoroughly miserable experience about 8 years ago (several friends of mine stated it was the worst one they went to...of *course* it was my first and only time), I've been talked into giving it another shot.

We got any of the gang coming this year?

My son and I will be there this year. Had a lot of fun last year and I am definitely looking to fill my day with scheduled gaming. The less time have to wander the exhibit hall the better for my wallet.

I went with some of my college buddies in the 80's (yes I'm old.) Had a great time. I would certainly go again even though its been a long time since I played D&D. Where is it based these days? Milwaukee? Indy?

I'll be there. My 21st GenCon in a row!

I was going to ask how many people this draws - 20k? 30k? Then I went to their website and saw - over 200k. Holy Shiite!

Last year they estimate that Gencon generated over $71 million for the local economy.

It mostly failed last time, but we should try an FOFC meet & drink.

Will be working the con as always! I would LOVE a meet and drink! Drinking at gencon is what foxes do best!

The con is very much improved since 8 years ago. They've changed some staff members and made more efficient processes to make the badge and ticket process a lot better, plus there are people there round the clock stuffing tickets into envelopes so that you are getting your stuff as soon as possible.

Even if I'm not doing some stuff to preview some games, I'll come up there just to mess around. Love GenCon. Trying Origins out this year as well.

Edit: Last year got to do a really cool exclusive preview for Pantheon: Mythic Battles.

Origins is definitely the place to play board games. You buy a pass to the boardgame hall and live there. Plus do demos.

Event list just got posted.

Nerdiest Event of the Year goes to: Stranger Things LARP.

My own "event" is still the best though, just from its ridiculousness: Secret Hitler at the Mixology Lounge. Which involves me, my friends, and whoever else we drag in to play Secret Hitler. At the Mixology Lounge. (Hotel Alexander bar).

If someone going to GenCon can get me a couple core sets of the new Legend of Five Rings, I'd be willing to kick in shipping and a little gratuity

I would love to time my next US trip around Gencon.... although my wife would probably murder me.

Remind me closer to the Con. If the line isn't agony for it, I'll see what I can do.

Probably going to be agony (It's a new LCG release by Fantasy Flight Games, that doesn't hit wide release until November/december).. but I will do so.

Yes. The Fantasy Flight Games line has been agony for the last few years. It's a massive, long line just to get into their booth to look around at stuff. It's unfortunate that it's like that, because I love a lot of their games would love to peruse their wares, but I don't have the time or patience to deal with such nonsense.

Oh, it's Fantasy Flight. Yeah, fuck off.

edit: Couple friends of mine are big L5R fans. If they are going with the intention of buying the book, and braving that line (AND if they allow for > 1 copy per person), we'll see.

one of the few games I regretted not getting into at the time was L5R. Glad to see there will be a new edition.

4th Edition L5R is just about perfect. I have all the books.(except 1, that goes for $100 or so :P) (they want to do another RPG, but they want to get the L5R LCG started first.

Kinda interesting they are changing a few things in the time reset (for an example, Doji Hoturi is now Doji Hotaru (a woman).. although she's still involved with Bayushi Kachiko

edit to avoid dola: They have alot of the card art and examples of play, as well as that first fiction at their website https://www.fantasyflightgames.com/e...the-card-game/

Am officially going to gencon. Working the con again.

woot

not sure where tho

incidently if you plan a meetup do NOT make it at the Ram. Better off at like one of the hotel bars like champions for food/drink. Or even like steak and shake or noodle & co

I would love to attempt to try to do a Con soon. Just to get to see a Critical Role panel.

Granted, my experience is limited, but, from my last visit...the Ram is fine if you do some afternoon beers. Avoid at all costs at night.

You are welcome to join me at the Alexander to visit the Mixology Lounge. Just because it's called the Mixology Lounge. (Despite the fact I'll probably drink beer there anyway).

So we're a couple weeks out.

Who's in, who's out, and we should exchange contact #'s in the hope we can at least get together for a beer.

The mob waiting to get into the exhibit hall for Gencon 50 this morning was crazy. I would upload a picture but for some reason it is not working from my phone.
