Madden 18: Make San Francisco Great Again

I haven't played a Madden franchise in many years. My Xbox has been home to one game and that's EA's NHL hockey, so I've decided to feed it football.

I've had much heartache for the NFL since the Rams left St. Louis, refusing to watch any of it. This is the second time I've seen an NFL team leave my beloved city.

I've come out of my football coma and what better way to show my disdain for the Rams then to take over the reigns of the San Francisco 49ers.

San Francisco was 2-14 last year, both wins were against the Rams however and I hope to continue this wrath in 2017 and beyond. We shall show NO MERCY when we play the Rams!!!

and so it begins.....

Settings
My plan is to play on All Pro defaults, simulation mode, with 15 minute quarters and run off to 15 seconds. (subject to change)

I'll be the GM and let Kyle Shanahan continue to be the HC. I will play all the games and call plays as I deem necessary, but will default to the HC in some situations.

I leave you with our 2017 draft picks...

Injuries:

HB Carlos Hyde - shoulder tear, 2 weeks
QB Brian Hoyer - shoulder tear, 5 weeks
ROLB Malcom Smith - torn pectoral, 27 weeks (IR)

Looks like we will be without QB Brian Hoyer for at least 2 regular season games, maybe 3-4. This means QB Matt Barkley will be named our starter for now. HB Carlos Hyde will not play in the last preaseason game and hopefully will be able to play in the opener.

* We will run with only 2 QB's for the final Preseason game vs LA Chargers, with QB Matt Barkley only playing the first quarter and QB C.J. Beathard playing the rest of the game. Our gameplan will be mostly running plays or quick passes to help protect them both.

BIG DECISION

Season Goal: 7 Wins
I'm not sure we will get 3 wins, but the lowest I could go was 7.

Transactions: Week 1

Bears trade ROLB Willie Young to Patriots
Patriots trade 2018 Round 3 draft pick to Bears

Buccaneers trade RE Robert Ayers Jr to Cardinals
Cardinals trade 2018 Round 3 draft pick to Buccaneers

Packers trade TE Richard Rogers to Steelers
Steelers trade 2018 Round 3 draft pick to Packers

Ravens trade LOLB Albert McClellan to Bengals
Bengals trade HD Jeremy Hill to Ravens

Week 1: Carolina Panthers vs San Francisco 49ers

Injuries:

49ers - RG Joshua Garnett - Knee Cartilage Tear (4 weeks)
QB Brian Hoyer - Shoulder Tear (3 weeks)
ROLB Malcolm Smith - Torn Pectoral (25 weeks - IR)

Panthers - LG Andrew Norwell - Quad Tear (3 weeks)

We do get RB Carlos Hyde back and with QB Brian Hoyer out, QB Matt Barkley will get the start. Our defense has been bad in the preseason, so I expect we will try to establish a running game vs the Panthers and hope to limit their offensive snaps.

Prediction: Panthers - 34 49ers - 13

The game vs Carolina could have been a much closer game, heck.. we might have even won if we didn't turn the ball over 7 times. We will not win a single game with a turnover margin like that. HB Carlos Hyde was a beast though.. but he was sidelined with a minor injury most of the 2nd half. We are definitely weak at QB and we don't have a dangerous WR, so we will rely more and more on Carlos Hyde and our running game.

QB Matt Barkey, who was pulled for a quarter and half will start Game 2 vs Seattle, but we need to keep his passes short. Seattle is a scary team, with a scary defense, so this could get ugly again for us. We did have 9 sacks though, so our defense played well.

Prediction: Seattle - 27 San Francisco - 10

We played our best game since I took over as the GM. K Gould missed a 24 yard FG as time expired and I cringed as our first sure fire victory slipped through the wet turf. We now know we can hang with good teams as long as we can win the turnover margin. The part that hurts me the most is we were so close to beating the Seahawks IN SEATTLE! I won't lie.. I just checked FA for another kicker, but there isn't anyone with better ratings than our kicker.

When I see the Rams come into town, I quickly forget about the first two losses of the season. The Rams (Stan Kroenke) are one team we must beat at all costs! I let the coaching staff know my despise for the Rams, a team that ripped my NFL heart out my chest and stomped on it!! I try to talk Head Coach, Kyle Shanahan into starting QB Brian Hoyer this week, but he's just not ready for action. I clear my week and will attend all practices and meetings this week. The Rams come in, 2-0 on the season and are a bit more healthy than we currently are... but no excuses, WE MUST BEAT THE RAMS!!!

Prediction: Rams - 10 49ers - 16

Well... I have GOOD news and BAD news.

The good news is I win my first game against the team I despise the most! They actually had the ball on my 4 yard line with 6 seconds left and one timeout and decided to go for the win and I sacked the backup to Goff (he was out with an injury) to pull out the victory!!!

For that moment in time everything else in the world around me was a blur.

The bad and sad news is somehow Madden and my cloud save was deleted from our Xbox and nobody will fess up to how that even happened! Was it Stan Kroenke hacking into my console?

I have reinstalled the game but my save is not there. So I'm going to start another San Francisco 49er CFM but I'm not sure I want to start another dynasty thread. Ughhhhhhhh!!!!!!!

For now.. I'll enjoy the win against the Rams!

First time it's happened and I think someone was cleaning up the HD to install a couple new games and deleted the wrong thing. Anyway.. new rules around here with the Xbox and I think I need to get a bigger HD.
