4/10 -

We beat the Knicks 102-100! We make it to 75 wins! Ingram had 34 and Morgan had 29 against us.

For us, Chen had 24 points, 11 boards, 8 assists. Francis with 16 points, 12 boards, and 8 blocks! Pavic with 16. Fowlkes with 14. Lucas with 10.

We cruise in the final game too! 76-6 record! New NBA record. We have 9 championships. Can we get number 10?

We had 6 championships in a row before losing last year. Chen had 4 championships in his first 4 years. Can he get number 5 now?

Chen wins his 4th straight MVP! Video of that and end of season stats will be coming soon.

Okafor made an impressive difference and the Lakers barely missed the playoffs at 34-48. So, I have a slight chance at the #1 pick.

Time for the draft lottery!!!

We have a 1.2% chance of moving up....

OMG! We are moving up!!! How far is the question now!!!

We had a rule change, so could be as low as 10....

Not 10 or 9....

Ugh. We get the #8 pick.

Could it be enough ammo to move up and get the #1 pick? Should we?

With a 16% chance, the Hornets get the #1 pick.

We had an amazing workout with Corie Emerson but would a 3rd major scorer detract from Chen's chances to pass Lebron as the all-time scoring leader?

I decide to try to make the trade. I offer them Jermaine Rodgers and Fowlkes for the #1. They decline.

I throw in the #8 pick and they agree. They picked up a star PF who is now rated 89 and a SG who is rated 81. Rodgers is 26 and Fowlkes is 25. The #8 pick should be good too as this is a deep draft but I can't pass on a USC guy to pair with Chen and Francis.

In our workout, the USC C Corey Emerson hit 18 of 20 mid range shots. He also hit a bunch of 3's. He crushed the bench press at 35 times...

I get 10 offers for the #1 pick but decline them all.

Emerson measures 7'0 264 lbs. He is rated 82 overall. He has plus athleticism, rebounding, interior scoring, and a nice mid range shot. His potential is off the charts per my scouts.

He averaged 29 ppg, 15.3 rpg, 6.1 bpg, 3.7 apg, and 1.7 spg for USC last year (in leading them to the NCAA championship at least in my mind )

He is 20 years old.

Nice thing about that trade is that it temporarily gives us some luxury tax relief as well.

Post Draft Summary:

Wow. Our scouts under-rated Emerson who now our staff feels is coming at a 84. (higher than Francis did.)

This was a deep draft:

2. Wizards PG Richardson - 79 rating.
3. Bucks PF Wagner - 78 rating
4. Pelicans PG Garibaldi - 80 rating
5. Piston C Sweetney - 79 rating
6. Thunder SF Alvardo - 78 rating
7. Hawks SF Moor - 77 rating.
8. Hornets - SF Woods - 77 rating

So the Hornets got 3 guys rated 77 or higher for the #1 pick with a PF of 89 rating in his prime. Not a bad haul for them.

It fell off drastically with no one rated over 70 after the #8 pick.

Correction: The Warriors got a C at #16 who is rated 73 overall, Ortiz.

Post Draft News:

David Blatt really wanted me to get Emerson and is now thrilled with me.

We have 4 FA's to re-sign:

Holland - wants 3 million for 1 year. I offer him that. He accepts my offer.

Pavic - Wants 1 year for min. I offer him that. He accepts that offer.

Geiger - Wants 1 year for min. I offer him that. He accepts my offer.

I have a SF who is determined to test FA and doesn't even want an offer from us first.

Okafor is the top FA this year.

I do sign 2 young players, a young PG and a young PF who are strictly bench fillers unless we get hit by injuries.

And then, I decide to go after a very interesting player. Chip Grady is a sharp shooting SG who was actually on a championship team in the past but is desperate for another title... he is rated 75 overall at 32 and might play cheap... I approach him and he agrees to a vet min deal. I offer him it. He jumps at it! Nice, a fully stocked roster again

WOW! Okafor got 102 million over 3 years from the Rockets. I feel bad for the poor Lakers as it now looks like I totally fleeced them since he spurned them.

Other big signings (for price or name value)

Anthony Davis went to the Mavs to try to win a championship for 10 million over 2 years.

The Lakers gave Brandon Ingram 150 million over 4 years. He is not worth that as he never really developed... but wow.

The Mavs got Juan Hernangomez for 3 years and 10 million.

The Mavs got Kris Dunn for 3 years 27 million.

Interesting Observations:

The Hornets best 3 players are all guys I got them in a trade: Rodgers (now up to 90 rating), Fowlkes (81), and Woods (77.)

Without Okafor staying, the Lakers will be bad this year again.

The Magic are loaded and without us in the conference would be battling the Knicks each year...

If the Mavs stay healthy, they should have a huge year.

Outside of us, the Raptors have the best starting 5.

Player Progression news:

Chen improved in multiple phases and is now a true 99 rated player! The next highest player in the league is rated 93 (Roy Jennings.) We have the 3rd rated player in the league as Francis has improved to a pure 91.

Lucas continues to improve at 28 years old.

Emerson comes in looking like a beast. He has a 99 strength rating! He has a 88 vertical and 99 dunk rating. He also has a surprisingly high 72 open 3 point rating.

At 29 years old, Bilous continues to improve in every phase.

Ben Simmons is 32 and it looks like he is going to take another serious hit to his ratings from this injury He won't even be back for the beginning of the year most likely...

Watts, our 21 year old SG took a nice step up and will get some meaningful minutes off the bench.

Summer League News:

Watts tore a ligament in his wrist during summer league

Emerson played in summer league and led us to a Championship

Our roster and rotation:

We traded away a key piece in our SG (who wasn't happy here anyway):

PG Holland - 76 rating - will play about 30 minutes.

SG Chen - 99 rating - will play 36-38 mpg.

SF Bilous - 84 rating - will play 25-30 mpg.

PF/C - Emerson - 85 rating (wow gained another point already) - will play 30-35 mpg.

C - Francis - 91 rating - will play 35-38 mpg.

C Lucas - 79 rating - will play 25 mpg.

SG Chip Grady - Becomes our key off the bench for G - will play 20 ish mpg. 75 rating.

PG Wilson Lane - 74 rating with highest in passing - will play 10-15 mpg.

PF Barry Geiger - 74 rating - will play 10-15 mpg.

Watts - 73 rating and now healed from injury in summer league - will play about 10 mpg.

PF Palmer - 73 rating - backup if needed.

SF Pavic - 73 rating - outside shooting if needed.

PG Chugainov - 63 rating - bench warmer.

SF Sims - 61 rating - bench warmer.

Simmons - injured - rating TBD.

11/28 -

We crush the Thunder 131-74 in Simmons' first game back.

Francis with 37 points, 14 boards, and a block.

Chen with 26 points, 8 boards, 11 assists, 6 steals.

Emerson with 19 points, 11 boards, 6 steals.

Watts with 15 points.

Simmons with 15 points, 13 assists, 5 boards, 1 block in 27 minutes.

Lane in 23 minutes off the bench had 11 assists.

End of November:

We are 12-2.

Chen is averaging 28.2 ppg, 6.7 rpg, 6.5 apg (career high), and 3.1 spg.

Francis is averaging 27.5 ppg, 13.6 rpg, and 2 bpg.

Emerson is averaging 15.1 ppg, 9.7 rpg, an 2.4 bpg.

Highlights from December:

Emerson with a 8 block game against Portland on 12/4.

A streak of 5 games in which we won by 30 or more points and in which Francis had 30 point or more each game including a 46 point game.

Simmons is playing very well and on 12/10 he asks for a contract extension...

I have to do it... although he wants big time money still for his current talent... he wants 35 million over 2 years...

We go back and forth but finally settle on 25 million for 2 years.

Dec 18:

Chen with a 51 point performance in a win vs the Clippers. Wilcox led them with 22 on 6 of 19 shooting. Chen shot 21 of 28, 6 of 8 from the arc.

Emerson with 7 blocks in the game.

Francis with 34 points 13 boards in the game.

12/28 - Chen puts up 55 points. Simmons with a triple double - 17 points, 13 boards, 12 assists as we cruise.

Jack just woke up... will post more later.

1/18 -

Emerson with a career high 35 points, 12 boards, and 3 blocks in a 122-106 win over the Pacers. Chen had 24 points, 9 boards, 15 assists, and 3 steals in the game. Francis with 23 points, 6 boards, and 2 blocks in the game.

1/22 -

Chen had 16 assists as we had an incredibly balanced game. 8 guys in double digits. No one over 15 points as we won 110-86 over the Heat.

1/25 -

Holland has been cleared to return but he is not the same player. His injury has caused some significant long term weaknesses to his shooting and passing. Lane is the better player and will remain the backup to Simmons...

1/31 -

We lose 98-90 to the Grizzlies ending a 19 game win streak and barely preventing us from a perfect month of January.

We are now 42-5.

Chen and Francis had a quiet month scoring as Emerson stepped up his scoring a bit more this month.
