Rock and Roll Hall of Fame '18 nominees
nomnomnom
http://www.cnn.com/2017/10/05/entert...ees/index.html Bon Jovi Kate Bush The Cars Depeche Mode Dire Straits Eurythmics J. Geils Band Judas Priest LL Cool J MC5 The Meters Moody Blues Radiohead Rage Against the Machine Rufus featuring Chaka Khan Nina Simone Sister Rosetta Tharpe Link Wray The Zombies I don't know if anyone on this list makes me jump out of my seat. No idea who they will induct. But the pattern seems to be they will force through 1 hiphop artist a year. My picks (i.e. favorites) that I'd like to see get in. The Zombies Dire Straits (these first two I think absolutely should get in) The Cars Eurythmics J Geils Band Moody Blues maybe Depeche Mode maybe Judas Priest I could see a radiohead induction actually. They certainly made a big impact and have tons of fans. |

I think there are two guarantees here.
Radiohead will be inducted and Sister Rosetta Tharpe will be inducted as an early influence.

Whether or not they get inducted this year or not, Radiohead will get in - they have critical cache and are popular enough to not be some obscure "who's that?" selection.

Dire Straits and The Zombies should be in there for Knopfler and Argent alone, let alone the talent around them. After that it's a little dicey, but I'm definitely in the "Radiohead gets in eventually" line.
The Cars are probably next on that list? |

Priest is the most obvious to me.
Probably Dire Straits (though not a ton of longevity there) Not many others on the list even warranted a nomination afaic.

The fact that Hall and Oates made it in the first time nominated says to me that they are completely open to 80s bands. I think Eurythmics were pretty big and unique kind of 80s thing to maybe get in. Or Depeche.
Both are very synth-niche I do hope the Cars get in. They are deserving in bridging the gap between guitar rock and synthpop |

It's still kinda funny that they went ahead and gave Nile Rodgers an influence award last year (very deserving) and that way they didn't have to keep nominating Chic.

wow Dire Straits, Judas Priest and Moody Blues have never been nominated before. I can't say it's surprising considering the source but jeez.

Love The Meters. Now, I don't know that you can consider them rock, but that ship sailed long ago.

Not sure why Bon Jovi isn't getting more love here. They were a defining band in the hair band era. A boatload of awards. Jon Bon Jovi and Richie Sambora are in the songwriters HOF. 130 million albums sold and counting. Just seems like they're being undervalued.

I know this place doesn't seem to love grunge, but I'm surprised at the lack of nominations for Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, Smashing Pumpkins, Nine Inch Nails, Janes Addiction, or Stone Temple Pilots.

I think they'll all get nommed a lot in the years to come. Pearl Jam JUST got in last year. I def think Pumpkins are worthy. STP too. Heck I'm surprised some 80s bands took this long to get nommed. And *cough* dire straits and moodies...*cough* |

To be fair (and the HOF is anything but fair), qualification is 25 years after their first major release. So some of those guys just started hitting the radar (STP just last week, by the looks of it). My vote, and certainly not all my faves, is - Depeche Mode Bon Jovi MC5 The Cars Sister Rosetta Tharpe |

Rethinking this I think I'd like to see the Cars get in the most. Very deserving. Original sound. Bridged the gap between bonafide guitar rock and synth pop.
TOns of hits as well as awesome deep cuts. Had two great frontman, one larger than life weirdo and one sex symbol. Just picked up a greatest hits collection. Still great. Last edited by CrimsonFox : 10-25-2017 at 01:30 PM. |

yeah true. kinda hard to talk about the 80s and nail it down 80s pop WAS all the rock derivitives of new wave, electronic music, synth pop, ska, reggae, hard rock, guitar rock, R&B, soul, punk, etc etc....mostly all rolled together. Most actual rock bands were around in the 70s and just evolved a bit or actually broke in the 80s. And then everything got swallowed up in lots of dance and hip hop and hair. I don't know why every decade music drifts back into awful dance music derivatives... |

Really happy the Car's got in. Moody Blues, though not my cup of tea is a nice nod too, fully expected JBJ to make it.
