2018 NCAA Pick 5 contest

Rules

You pick five teams from this year's NCAA Tournament field. Points are awarded based on how far each of your teams advance, with bonus points given based on the team's seed. You get one point for winning in the First round, 2 for the Second Round, 3 for the regional semis, 4 for the regional finals, 5 for the national semifinal, and 6 for the national championship. Then, for each game your team wins, you get points that match the number of seed they are.

For example, say you picked Kansas (a No. 1 seed), and they advanced to the Final Four. You would get: (1+1) + (2+1) + (3+1) + (4+1) = 14 points for selecting the Jayhawks. Or, if you pick 14 seed Wright St., and they win 2 games, they would earn you (14+1) + (14+2) = 31 points.

As you can see, a well placed 10+ seeded team notching an upset or two is just as valuable as a 1 or 2 seed going to the Final 4.

First Four games do not count towards any point totals.

Good luck, everyone! Any questions, just post them here. Post your picks here, too.

If you want to change your picks, just edit your post. Any posts with an edit time of after Thursday, noon Eastern will be ruled ineligible.

Tiebreaker will be the player with the worst seeded team that earns the most points. 2nd tiebreaker will be the player with the team that has the highest seed total picked.

Let's see if we can get to 25 before tipoff this afternoon. 19 so far have picked 33 of the 64 teams.

Day 1 Standings and Pick Distribution among the 21 entries.

Everybody is on the board, that's the good news. Bad news is Arizona was the 4th most popular pick. In retrospect, probably should've seen that coming.

Ugh. I picked Loyola in my bracket but not here. I really have no idea why I threw Arizona in as my last team. Oh well. Someone's gotta be bottom!

Because everyone was in love with Arizona's talent. I had them in my original post before swapping them with Bonaventure. It was irrelevant for me.

I flip flopped on Butler or New Mexico State, and decided to go with New Mexico because I thought they had a better shot at their second round game than Butler over Purdue. Blech.

If Houston goes on a deep run I have a shot, but even then Butter's pretty much got me covered there.

Standings after the First Weekend:

Gonzaga and Loyola, 2 of the most popular picks, are still around. With Gonzaga certainly a favorite to win at least another game if not get back to the Final 4 thanks to Xavier's epic choke job on Sunday.

I am usually not still in this, but since I abandoned A10 allegiance this tournament, I have a path to victory through Clemson and Gonzaga... for the first time ever.

I would certainly say anyone in the Top 5 still has a path to victory, with henry296 possibly the favorite considering he has the 2 favorites to make the Final 4 out of the CHAOS side of the bracket.

Others that are still in it:
Karlifornia needs Duke to win the title and basically everybody else to go down.
Same for Sublime 2 and Texas Tech.
Same for muns and Florida State.

Standings after Day 5, the picture clears:

britrock88 and henry296 both have the same 2 teams, so britrock is safe there. They will stay 1-2 if West Virginia takes down Nova... but henry296 has no chance to pass britrock for the lead, so he's out of the running for the title.

If WVU loses...
QS can move into the lead with another Syracuse win combined with a Clemson win.
I take the lead if Clemson wins tonight and Cuse loses, if not I am done.
Comey can move up with a Duke win.
muns is still alive with the Florida St. win.

Sublime2, jbergey22, and ColtCrazy still have Texas Tech, Michigan, and Villanova respectively, but they can't win enough points to move them into the top 4.

Should also be noted, no one in the top 5 has won before, so we are looking at another brand new champion.

I will have the updated scores later tonight, but in looking at it on Sunday I know that thanks to the Duke win to the Elite 8, W. Virginia's loss in the Sweet 16, and Loyola's continued run... Comey is going to be our winner!

Congratulations! It was a tight race this year.

I will have the pre-Final 4 details up tonight. Loyola still has 33 possible points available, but other than that we only have Michigan with 17 more possible points, and Villanova and Kansas only have 13 more possible points.
