TCY defensive strategies
I'm running an LSU dynasty in which the SEC West teams I face are mainly passing or balanced offenses. I'm at a point where I'm usually able to win the conference championship - but the BCS teams I face in the bowls are generally ones using the Power I. I run a 4-3 defense and I'm finding that the Power-I teams run all over me in the championship game.
Any recruiting or defensive strategy tips that I could use to offset this? So far, I've found that I'm most successful against the Power I in the seasons which I have both a MLB and FS who are rated in the high 80's - 90's in run defense. But if either of my MLB or FS is a redshirt junior first-year starter with a sub-60 run defense rating, the Power-I offenses run all over me - even if both my starting DTs are rated high against the run. Tips? -Gary |

Good question Sarasota. I normally allow my Assistants to handle the run percentages on defense. If I see the assistants putting 95's on the run percentage, I normally switch from the 4-3 or 3-4 to their run-stopping alternatives (4-6 and one other formation I can't recall).
The only numbers I really tweak with on defense are the package percentages and the position blitz percentages. Make sure you have quality at DE and DT if you want to stop the run. Plus you'll need lots of depth. A good MLB will help as well. As for recruiting, I would play a 3-4 or a 4-3 depending on your recruiting success of ILB and DT's. If you have more of one than another, then use that formation. Most of the times, I find it easier to get ILB's early in my coaching career and then DT's later. Here a recent FOF link that talk about defense. http://dynamic2.gamespy.com/%7Efof/f...threadid=18206 |
